From Flavio Bessa@4:801/189.1 to All on Sun Dec 27 14:07:45 2020
    Hello everybody.

I have created a Debian VM to run Mystic, but I am experiencing a few difficulties when trying to uncompress the Mystic binaries from the website: they always fail.

I am using unrar-free to unpack them. Any hints on what could be the cause?

    Try with this:

    ftn@balabam:~$ dpkg -l | grep "rar "
    ii rar 2:5.4.0+dfsg.1-0.1 amd64
    Archiver for .rar files

    RAR 5.40 Copyright (c) 1993-2016 Alexander Roshal 15 Aug 2016
Trial version Type RAR -? for help

It should be available through the standard debian apt repository.

Let me know if it works. ;)

I just tried to decompress it using unrar, unrar-free & 7z and all three failed on Linux. It does seem to work fine with 7zip on Windows though.

Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately it is not there:

    /tmp$ dpkg -l | grep "rar "
ii unrar-free 1:0.0.1+cvs20140707-4 amd64 Unarchiver for .rar files

It seems that the package has been obsoleted:

    /tmp$ sudo apt-get install rar
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
Package rar is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package 'rar' has no installation candidate

I wonder what version that unrar-free is, it may not have the "stuff" needed to unpack a rar archive created by a recent version of rar.

Depending on your target system you can grab a recent version of rar from..

    https://rarlab.com/download.htm

Or if you just want to decompress rar files grab the unrar executables or source from..

    https://rarlabs.com/rar_add.htm

On my slackware box I just extract the source to a temporary directory, change to that directory and run "make" followed by "sudo make install" and I am good to go.

Did you have enabled the "non-free" repository of debian? ;)

Probably not, but I managed to open it using the xarchive package.

    using the xarchiver package.

I also use xarchiver on the desktop to handle rar archives.

What OS is giving you trouble with rar archives?

If you use the Linux version of RAR from the RAR home page, you should have
    no problems.
