• Murder Motel setup in Mystic...

From Shane O'Neill@3:770/3 to All on Fri Apr 19 22:31:45 2019
Anyone have instructions for making Murder Motel door game work with Mystic 1.12 A43? My mystic is running on Windows 7 32bit and it is located on the harddrive at C:\mystic my netfoss is also located at C:\mystic\netfoss

My netfoss NF.bat file is as follows:

    @echo off
rem **you can optionally add ansi.com here**
    c:\mystic\netfoss\netfoss.com %1
    rem ** If running a non-door32.sys system, add a " %1" to end of above line **
    if errorlevel 1 goto end
    c:\mystic\netfoss\netcom.exe %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9
    c:\mystic\netfoss\netfoss.com /u
    :end

I have used the dd command as follows:

Command Γöé (DD) Exec external program
    Data Γöé c:\mystic\netfoss\nf.bat /N%3 /H%0 c:\mystic\doors\mm.bat %3
    Access Γöé
    Execute Γöé Select

My "mm.bat" file under C:\mystic\doors is:

    @echo off
    c:
    cd \mystic\doors\mm
    mm46 murder.cfg c:\mystic\temp%1\door.sys

I have tried with out success leaving the "murder.cfg" un-edited. I have also edited my "murder.cfg" file in the following 2 ways for the door.sys still with
    no luck:

    WAY #1:

    C:\mystic\door.sys
    Suburban Software
    Chuck
    Valecek
    9999
    60
    5
    2→

    WAY #2:

    C:\mystic\temp%1\door.sys
    Suburban Software
    Chuck
    Valecek
    9999
    60
    5
    2→

What am I missing? I am still trying to figure out Mystic and doors so sorry for being slow on this but will welcome ANY help!!!

    Thanks!

what kind of door drop file is the game looking for?

My "mm.bat" file under C:\mystic\doors is:

    @echo off
    c:
    cd \mystic\doors\mm
    mm46 murder.cfg c:\mystic\temp%1\door.sys

There would be no point in having this bat point to a file in the temp directory I think.

well see if we can :)

So there is a door.sys in the c:\mystic\doors\mm folder, date 1995 LOL

There is also an error log from each time I try to run the game from mystic, the error code each time is:

    DoorFrame: ERROR # 53 in Line 50 ON 04-21-2019 AT 21:52:34

No luck on a few quick internet searches for that error other than iPads.

The original configuration.doc file for Murder Motel says:

    <BEGIN CLIP>

    SETUP:

Unless you have never installed a Door on your
getting the program to run will be easy.
If this is your first door, please read on!

The file ('INACTIVE.CFG') should be edited to suit your needs
as well. Line #1 of this file is the DRIVE:path\filename.ext
of an ASCII (non color) bulletin that will be made, and line
#2 is that of an ANSI (color) bulletin.

A configuration file ('MURDER.CFG'), as well as the batch file
used the run the program ('MM40. ') should be viewed, and
    edited to suit your needs.

    CONFIGURATION FILE
    ==================

The format of the configuration file used by Doors is:

    C:\PCB\PCBOARD.SYS <- For PCBoard systems using PCBOARD.SYS only C|\PCB\USERS.SYS <- For PCBoard systems using USERS.SYS C:\BBS\CALLINFO.BBS <- For Wildcat! systems (prior to v3.0) C:\BBS\DOOR.SYS <- For systems that support DOOR.SYS C:\BBS\DORINFOx.DEF <- For QBBS/RBBS/RA. Replace x with Node #. C:\BBS\SFDOORS.DAT <- For Spitfire systems.

Note only one of the above

    Suburban Software <- BBS name
    Chuck <- Sysop's first name
    Valecek <- Sysop's last name
    9999 <- Registration number
    60
    4
    1
    1
    1
----------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the Murder Motel configuration file, using an ASCII editor, just edit the first 10 lines to suit your needs. The format of each line follows: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Line 1 -- Full Drive:\path\filename.ext of door info file (see above)
Line 2 -- The name of your Bulletin Board System
Line 3 -- First name of SysOp
Line 4 -- Last name of SysOp
Line 5 -- Registration Number (0 if unregistered)
Line 6 -- Total number of moves allowed per day
Line 7 -- Total number of demerit points allowed per day
    Line 8 -- Enforce wait a day after dying (0=no or 1=yes)

The following will be in future releases. The original author intended on putting these option in but never did.

Line 9 -- Allow the use of handles (alias names) ? (0=no or 1=yes)
Line 10 - Allow being picked by more than one other player ? (0=no or 1=yes)

Some term packages are not acknowledging the test for ANSI. You may force
ANSI on by adding a commnad line switch /NA.

    MMXX MURDER.CFG /NA

NOTE: This door supports COM 1-15 on the standard IRQ's - COM1/COM3 = IRQ4 and
COM2/COM4 = IRQ3. If you wish to use a non-standard IRQ, add the IRQ
number after the configuration filename. Let's assume your Door is
called FOOBAR and you want to use COM1 and IRQ5. The command line
passed to your Door would be:
    MM03 Murder.cfg /5
The /5 tells Door to use IRQ5 rather than the standard IRQ4 that
is normally used with COM1. No /x parameter is needed for the standard
    IRQ's.

    <END CLIP>

well see if we can :)

Hope some of this new info helps.

Can you show me the original batch file please and any notes on it's contents.

I would think you need to amend it to pass the directory path to the dynamically created temp directory and then point to the door file but I am unsure if you need to explicitly state that here at the batch level. I
suspect not as you're stating it in the murder.cfg - right?

The kicker will be to call the correct version of a murder.cfg file if you
have state the explicit path to the door dropfile as that's going to change depending on which node the user has logged in on.

    c:\mystic\netfoss\netfoss.com /u
    :end

This looks OK. For your info I'm using NF 1.12A and it works OK for me. I'm picking that or a later version will also be fine for you. So I think there's nothing amiss with the netfoss side of your settings / setup :)

Replace x with Node #.

So when you run a door in Mystic it will create three drop files in the temp dir of the user running the door. The temp dir depends on which node on
    Mystic they are logged into.

    24/04/2019 03:08 p.m. <DIR> .
    24/04/2019 03:08 p.m. <DIR> ..
    24/04/2019 03:08 p.m. 187 CHAIN.TXT
    24/04/2019 03:08 p.m. 292 DOOR.SYS
    24/04/2019 03:08 p.m. 94 DORINFO1.DEF

    I would opt for DORINFO1.DEF

It seems Mystic creates this file name each time a user is logged in so the number 1 in the file name remains the same. It's also a simple drop file to
my mind and contains less things in it that could be misread by the game.

Perhaps I try to set up a copy of this game myself (I am also using win7 32 bit) and then I'll be in a better place to guide you.

Where can I grab a copy of the game Shane?

    Best, Paul
