• WEb interface to mail / Echos

From Vince Coen@2:250/1 to All on Thu Apr 26 13:25:24 2018
    Hello All!

The web interface allows user to a mbse system to access statistics and download from the file base.

Has any one created an interface one way or another that can be linked to the existing mbse menu interface to allow users to read / write to echo areas online may be as a logged in user again perhaps to specific areas.
May be a method of downloading and uploading messages from requested specific areas ?

This in a similar way to say as used on Sourceforge for the forums or Yahoo etc.

Trying to NOT have to use another BBS product assuming one exists that allows this.

I've been putting off thinking about this, but today, while tracking down some details on the $MHOME issue (results soon, it's not as big a deal as it might seem), I came across Michiel's pktextract program, which appears to be a first step towards an eventual SQL based web interface. It could be that, anyway.

I would do a good review of the available web forums based on, say mysql or forks, before doing one from the ground up. Part of me wants to resist the whole idea, because I'm leery of people doing a lot of work that people who aren't even in the community are going to end up making a lot of money off of
, and suck up resources, generally without giving any thing back beyond wasted time and attention, but the plus side is that it would, or could, at least, show a larger audience one way that distributed messaging, by the user,
for the users, and for the users, can work. I see a lot of people here who get
all enthused about the slick bells and whistles of modern web design, but I could really care less about that. To each his own, though, and I guess somebody has to be there to make sure the baby doesn't get thrown out with the bath water. I't be nice too if it could be kept simple enough to work at dial-up speeds.

    My 2 cents, anyway

I've considered writing Ruby on Rails front-end for the BBS a few times, but I never seem to have the time to do it. I already have a ruby class for accessing JAM messages bases, and a web front end should be able to use the system for authentication.

There should be a Chots package or two+ that should work with it is just a
    case of finding one.

Was hoping some one else has got one working :)

I'm curious if there is a decent web based NNTP client that would work for
    an online forum.
