• Problem with netmail with bad addr.

From Vince Coen@2:250/1 to All on Wed Mar 7 14:35:30 2018
    Hello All!

I have a netmail going back and forth between my and master uplink.

It is a mail that was sent from one of my downlinks to me no doubt but incorrectly addressed (2:150/1) and my system is always sending it to 2:2/0 as the gateway without CHECKING that it is an address NOT in the nodelist.

For the moment I have set in routing table the bad address to my test address which is not in the nodelist as there is no action set up in mbse that says I can just delete it.

Should mbse not have a process on routeings that says that if a mail come in addressed to a non existant node then mbse will bounce it back to wence it came
    or any other offered action.

Suggestions any one as it is not the first time this has happened and it is always a pain to clear.

In that case is there one that can be used within mbse as it does not have that
    facility ?

unfortunately i'm not aware of any specific trackers for linux... on my OS/2 box, running the main BBS and HUB mailer stuff, i use OT-Track... it has bounced my own messages back to me because the destination node wasn't in the nodelist... this would be, for example, when i was adding them and getting them
    started...

the trick is to be able to run an external tool on new netmails living in the mailer's MSG netmail directory so that it can mark them with a VIA control line
as well as other processing like bouncing netmails addressed to unknown systems... after this processing, the next outbound scan should pack up those bounces and send them back to the originator... so basically, we toss to get the mail into the netmail area then we process the netmail area with tools like
netmgr and OT-Track and finally we scan outbound mail to send out possible replies...

Traditional netmail trackers will not work with MBSE, because in-transit netmail is read from the inbound packets and written directly to the outbound packets. MBSE currently doesn't have the ability to bounce netmail for unlisted nodes, although I am considering adding such functionality.

Please advise if you get around to fixing this bug as I class it as a serious issue.

An instance of bad address resulted in my system sending the problem email to my uplink who in turn sent it back (he has such software in use) then I send it
    back.

To say that it caused some serious secondary issues is a mild understatement as
    it filled up all available email file extensions i.e., tu0 - 9, a - z.

This caused no additional mail to be added so downlink lost mails & echos.

Similar has occured to one other.

I end up deleting all 0 length files, and asI do not use the system daily can be a major pain :(
