It depends on the version...I had a similar problem. With Synchronet, L.O.R.D. 4.x runs slower under Windows 98 than under XP...so, your only
choice is 3.55 -- unless you go back to XP.

    Hello, Daryl.

Replying to a message of Daryl Stout to MATT KRANER:

The latest binaries run slower (at least displaying ANSI screens) because of a new doorkit Michael is using developing LORD. It's a small price to pay to have all the different versions, I think. It's especially a marked difference in speed for us OS/2 sysops who have the new LORD/2 version - it is amazingly fast.

    Later,

Right...I'm running 4.06 right now...ran in first under 98, where it was slow under Synchronet. But, when I switched to XP, it worked fine. I think it was the way W98 handled memory issues versus the way XP handles them.

Version 3.55 through 4.1 runs well under XP provided they are patched. They run blisteringly fast on my BBS but 4.06 runs slow,

You should upgrade to v4.07, specially the Win32 flavor of it.

Hey are you playing any music lately? Although I am an east coaster, I have a friend who is a keyboard player in San Diego. He is playing with a band there who is going on a european tour. They are called "In Case of Fire" check them out. Their drummer is insane.

from the Lord Mailing List :

    * Legend Of the Red Dragon Mail List

And on 6/6/6, the Devil raised his head and said "The Red Dragon must
fly again. Michael, make it so!".

And on 6/7/6, Devil's Spawn Day, there was much testing by the Gameport
crew, updates to webpages, and a final LORD407.ZIP put together,
containing all of the fixes and new stuff you guys have seen during beta testing, but also containing 2 new intro ansis!.

And at 3:06pm central time, on 6/7/6, Michael did the Devil's due and
thus released LORD407.zip to the world!

    PLEASE NOTE!

    REGARDING THE PORTS

Lord for Win32, OS/2, Linux, and BSD all use the same game engine. The
only thing thats different is the communication libraries. Because of
this, I am waiting on DOS Lord's 4.07 engine to "prove" itself before I
    go further with the ports.

I would suggest that you guys just try WRITING to Gameport and give them the information on how you registered LORD years ago. Then let them work out the details. Remember when they bought the Lord programs they GUARANTEED to Seth Robinson that they would honor ALL contractual agreements that he had regarding
registrations. If I recall right, that means that regardless how you registered, you DID register. So let Gameport know the situation and have them deal with it.

FYI. The new LORD registration numbers are only applicable to DOS LORD v4.07. And EVERYONE who has registered LORD, HAS to get the new registration numbers if you wish to use the official LORD v4.07 game. There are NO exceptions to that requirement. The numbers you get are in different groupings and the total
number of digits is higher also.

For those wondering why they should upgrade to v4.07, have them try reading the
whatsnew.txt file that is in lord407.zip.

The new DOS Lord 4.07 registration codes are NOT for use with either the Lord/32 beta, Lord for OS/2 beta, or the LORD for Linux beta. Continue to use the OLD registration numbers you have for DOS LORD with those 32-bit LORD versions until you are told to do otherwise by either Michael Preslar or Metropolis Gameport Support.

You can download LORD 4.07 from the Lordlegacy.com web-site if you want it, from the site's Downloads web-page. Donald
