• New sysop in need of help

Hi all, was hoping my first post wouldn't be a "pls help" post, but here we are :-|. I just built the source for SynchronetBBS on my raspi 4B. the config program runs fine, but when I attempt to run the actual bbs service, it segfaults. running a journalctl on it only shows that it was able to log that WSS was listening to it's sockets before it segfaulted. Any advice on how to get it running, or what I can do next ho further pinpoint where it's messing up at? any help or advice is greatly appreciated! -Lambda

Update: forwarding the ports is allowing thesoftware to progress further before segfaulting. thinking this was a port forwarding issue all along, will keep posted.

And we're back to segfaulting att the ws and wss servers. I'm not quite sure what's going on now, as all the ports are forwarded that were listed in the log

Found the proper forum to be posting the help requests on Dovenet, so I'm gonna continue this adventure there. Apologies for clogging up local general with this stuff. That being said, how is your day going? -Lambda

First, read https://wiki.synchro.net/howto:support to find where to get support (hint: Synchronet-related conferences on DOVE-Net, USENET, or Fidonet).

Second, most likely, it's a problem with the JavaScript engine (libmozjs). You can narrow it down through a process of elimination, e.g. disables [services] (set AutoStart=false) in your ctrl/sbbs.ini file and see if the issue goes away, at least for startup. Synchronet relies on a lot of JavaScript these days, so it'll likely segfault later when the terminal server tries to execute a JS module.

And lastly, to root-cause the segfault:

Still a bug: the software should never segfault. So logs or a backtrace would be very helpful in solving that.
