This is the vote from R28.

The region was consulted and the vote represents the will of the sysops with one exception. Contrary to the wishes of the R28 sysops I submit an "abstain" for myself. As I did in the 2015 and 2013 elections.

The vote is already cast, so my notice wouldn't affect anything.
However, abstaining from voting for yourself is an old and good tradition.

P.S. Also, I really dislike the very idea of RCs being FTSC members, but that seems the only option for small regions... :-/

Thats true, and in this tradition I didn't vote on r24 survey.
Also Markus didn't participate on the r24 survey.
We've done a survey in r24, and I just submitted the result of the survey. All things can be read in our nodes.024 echo, which is r/w for everyone.
I just deliver the votes of the r24-nodes.

P.S. Also, I really dislike the very idea of RCs being FTSC members,

Well, the situation in r24 is a tiny little bit different compare to other regions. We've got a ratified regions policy. This policy expands the rights and do's of the nodes inside our region. If you are intersted, our regpol24 is here under regp100.024 frequestable.

    Bye/2 Torsten

Can you please tell me what I have done to deserve that NO vote? Abstain I can handle, but NO?

I've been a member of the FTSC on and off for some 20 years now, and I think
I have served the committee well all those years. Unlike most of the candidates
that you voted YES for. So why?

Here in R50 most people also don't participate in international echoes. However, we can distinguish people who do the real work, those who make obstacles for real work, and just chatterboxes.

JFYI: you are mostly considered a chatterbox because of your messages in ENET.SYSOP - but even that's much better than to appear among those three obstacle-makers.

    Unlikely.
    You've got 13-4 == 9 effective votes, and RJ have got only 9-4 == 5.

Is that the way y'all think we are best going to maintain our
    museum project?

I can't say anything for your museum project, but I can say for my hobby: maintaining it doesn't take much resources, but does provide me with some non-trivial ideas, so I keep it up and running.

Same applies to my other hobbies (caving, off-road driving etc.) as well. Sometimes that applies even to my job: doing some side-work may serve me a really good service.

I don't think my hobby will survive that attitude much longer... :(

If that's a hobby, your attitude should be more like described above.

Keepig in mind Ozz is not and NC (never has been), he's pure developer and not *C trained. Many WANTED to see an influx of such because we are *C high. The FTSC is not about politics at all, it is not about one's ability to code otherwise I'd have to wonder why JoHo isn't in-there (and others). It's not about balancing the zones, it's not about someone disliking someone else ...

It's about writing and maintaining a technical library. It's functioning now hinges on a small subset of the membership and if one day these people quit, then that is it. No more FTSC then.

It's about writing and maintaining a technical library. It's functioning now hinges on a small subset of the membership and if one day these people quit, then that is it. No more FTSC then.

I know what it is Ward. I referred to some of the skill sets that are handy to have to make it go well.

I do. I've used the same software for over seven years, and it still can go awry. No matter how long a sysop-honcho may have been in the saddle, as it were, that particular 'horse' will carry out its progamming in the most enervating and logical manner.

I did it just the other week to Z3C but fortunately one's "intention" doesn't translate to awkward text in a post. What was intended to be a netmail unleashed itself as an echomail post.

I believe Ozz when he says it was accidental.

    Cheers,
    Paul.

Well it was... a copy from FTSC_PUBLIC (the first vote posted), and pasted (so I thought) into my R13SYSOP window... obviously, it either copies the "Newsgroups: FTSC_PUBLIC" header too. So, even though the GUI "Newsgroups:" field said R13SYSOP, it brought in the posted detail - which was not visible.

I have tested it twice since, and have not reproduced it. Otherwise, you would have seen my post to Mike in Netmail in FTSC_PUBLIC... so I am honestly stumped
what I did wrong. But, no spilt milk - no nuclear codes published... ;-/

Thanks for pointing out you also had the problem... I am not sure if it was JAMNNTPD, Unison, or SeaMonkey's NNTP client. (I have been bouncing between desks, testing clients, helping two other sysops get familiar with SeaMonkey and JAMNNTPD... they are going to start off as points when they are comfortable).

True, although simply not submitting a ballot would (and did) have the same effect.

There was also the option chosen by RC20, who abstained on all candidates.

"Simply" not casting a vote, is not the same as announcing that one has decided
    to not cast a vote.

There was also the option chosen by RC20, who abstained on all
    candidates.

R28 already explored that line of action in the 2016 election.

    Hello Vincent!

I think you need to reject Vince Coen's vote.

It was not addressed to "Election Coordinator" as per the rules ...

**************************************************************************** Voters are requested to copy and paste the form below, mark a
cross for each candidate in the "yes" or the "no" column for all
candidates they wish to cast a vote for and post it in FTSC_PUBLIC
addressed to "Election Coordinator with a subject of "Vote". ****************************************************************************

    :-) ... OK, never mind, it's gonna be week-end ... :-)

My thoughts exactly. I think that the original thought was that the election coordinator would have an easier task to filter out the votes from the low signal to noise signal here. I may be wrong.

(So glad we're both done with that initial bs, btw. It's far more fun when we get along.)

I will first say that neither of us were part of R20's internal deliberations, and we cannot be certain what went on 'behind closed doors'. Having said
that, you're correct in saying that lying about it would be a pretty big
    issue, and also pointless.

I choose to give Bjorn the benefit of the doubt here, though. I have not seen him lie in the past, so I have no reason to suspect it here. But, (as you were quick to point out on Day One) I am very new here! I have not had the chance

I'm pretty sure he's the only person in the region.

In Z1 it's quite easy and straightforward to consider another region within the same zone because up to a high degree it is the same playing field ... culturally, linguistically, historicaly. Yeah yeah yeah Canada, Texas, ...

Move to another zone such as Z2 and every region is a different country or set of countries, most likely there are different languages all over the place, different cultures and they were eachother's foes to the death not really that long ago. It's very diffult to judge what goes on in a different region, even if you display the knowitall-attitude as you do .... and Dan .... and Shaun.... I would even say 'especially' with that knowitall-attitude...

My own region R29 Belgium has Dutch/Flemish as its language and 22km from here (13.7 miles) is the Netherlands, also speaking Dutch and while technically it should be easy, both sides agree that that's already enough to create confusion. So you and those other 2 dudes claim you know what goes on in Scandinavia?

For the record, R20 consists of 3 countries with different languages and cultures .... If you want to get on Bjorn's back because you doubt he polled his region, then try to answer this question ... how many RCs do you think did poll their region one way or the other?

I even know about RCs who did not poll their region and do not vote either ... Plenty reasons to get upset if that's what you intend to become ...

I have always claimed the opposite! (@_@) More than once, I've said 'I don't really know what it's like in Europe.'

However, here in Z1, we are divided into regions by border, just like it's
done in Z2, as far as I'm aware. Not *our* fault that there's only one
    computer in all of Whogivzafukistan...

For the record, R20 consists of 3 countries with different languages and cultures .... If you want to get on Bjorn's back because you doubt he polled his region

In a previous message, I actually defended Bjorn; I'm a little surprised that you ignored that. It does no good at all to pick and choose which facts
    to ignore.

then try to answer this question ... how many RCs do
you think did poll their region one way or the other?

I definitely don't know the answer to that question, and neither do you. I do know that my RC asked me and everyone else in my region for opinions. And
you know the same (or opposite) for *only* yours. I cannot speak for R20 any more than you can.

It's not 'knowitall attitude' if everyone knows it.

I even know about RCs who did not poll their region and do not vote

I have ZERO doubt that many (most?) RCs did not poll their region and
submitted their vote. Some did, probably. Many don't even vote,
obviously, so therefore wouldn't bother polling their sysops.

The main point that I made earlier was that I think Bjorn *LIED* about
his vote. He said that his R20 sysops *UNANIMOUSLY* voted to *ABSTAIN*
    on *ALL* *THREE* candidates.

Now seriously, do you actually believe that claim? Put aside your old crony-ism and the fact that he's your buddy, and give me your HONEST
opinion on that claim. Do you REALLY believe he polled his 20 or so
sysops, and they ALL independently came up with the idea of abstaining

Do you REALLY believe he polled his 20 or so sysops, ...

Yups ... perhaps you need to clarify what "polling" is ... If an
RC writes in a sysop-echo "This is happening and this will be my
intended vote" and nobody responds while they all are "Live",
then that is pretty unanymous to me ...

Yeah, I figured you'd come up with that kind of "logic" as an explanation.

I'm not sure why I even bother trying to talk to you two. I'm about
    done wasting my time.

The main point that I made earlier was that I think Bjorn *LIED* about
his vote. He said that his R20 sysops *UNANIMOUSLY* voted to *ABSTAIN*
    on *ALL* *THREE* candidates.

This does seem doubtful, to an outside observer. And any defense
of this, that doesn't also come from Bjorn himself, should also
    be doubted.

It's more than doubtful, it's VERY likely to be true. Nearly 100%
    probability that it's true.

Yes, any defense other than from Bjorn is completely useless. Especially
from his decades-long cronies. To be completely truthful, I would have
ZERO confidence in anything further that Bjorn would say about it. Pretty
sure we won't hear another word from him about it, anyway.

Not much I dislike more than a liar.

Come on man, let's try to at least be HONEST once in a while, eh?

'Honestly', I'm surprised you didn't blast him for the
'knowitall' remark, as I did, and another...

I didn't bother, because I saw those comments for what they were:
A diversion tactic to shift focus away from the point I was trying
to make (that Bjorn lied about his vote). Pretty standard practice
from both of these guys, that I've learned to easily pick up on.

In this case, *and this alone(o_O)*, you are better than I, sir.
You set an example that I should have followed.

Well, maybe. Perhaps just more experience with these folks who will
generally not answer a direct question, and will instead try to divert attention and start a new flamefest so that the original point of the conversation is lost and forgotten.

We stopped doing that when the one whose name we're not supposed to mention, kicked the bucket.

The posted election rules specifically stated that a vote could not be
    changed once it was cast.

Seems to me that the OP could/should have done a little research before
he decided he "can't vote either up or down".

Mystic BBS has no ideas that there could be life outside of cp437
    realm.

Not too much different than the cp866 crowd.

Oops... my latest patch to GoldED source code has done the thing and deanonymized my $LANG/$LC_ALL environment variable.

FWIW, my recent tests with "KOI8-R 2" vs "CP866 2" revealed, that Z2:R50 folks are not ready to read any Cyrillic outside of DOS encoding back in 90th which is CP866.

Speaking of which, what does the cp866 crowd think about your "KOI8-R
    2"?

Well, if you stay within the true ASCII range, which is <127, you can claim any, and I repeat ANY charset aka @CHRS, including utf-8.
I'm writing in 'CP866 2' now and you are reading me well, just as an example.

    just update that fakken fta-1003

:-) It is pretty sad that is for sure. How come you're not running
    for ftsc meembership?

    Hey Nil!

my latest patch to GoldED source code has done the thing

It could work for me but first you need to get utf-8 working before I'd get excighted about it. I have a couple points that can convert utf-8 to whatever REAL 8-bit character set including koi8-{r|u}. It doesn't scare me.

Z2:R50 folks are not ready to read any Cyrillic outside of DOS
encoding back in 90th which is CP866.

The "bottle neck" is the Randy Bush's copyright on
    FTS-0000000000000000001 document

I could live without it. For sure all the binary crap *should* get the heave-ho. As for encoding utf-8 is the way to go but I don't see it happening soon and I fully plan to exploit it as-is (fts-5003.001). As for fts-0001.016, there are very few hubs that actually support it and haven't for a couple decades now. The document they wish to replace it with isn't any better methinks.

I haven't researched it but I'm pretty sure copyrights are being broken in Fidonet at different levels .... that's the anarchistic beauty of it.

Without producing something entirely new or breaking copyrights, advancement is a challenge.

So, in this case the copyright-thing is merely an excuse to not do anything.

    1) The FTSC is not a legal entity, it cannot own anything;
    2) Every time someone writes something, there's a copyright on it. I wrote something in this echo, you responded to my copyrighted message without formally asking me permission to quote from it ... violation ...

    Hej Ward!

For a complete breakdown of MSGID/REPLY see fts-0009.001. They are seperate lines but are related since in order to create a REPLY a MSGID for the msg one is replying to is critical. There should be no REPLY without a MSGID. The REPLY kludge contained in this reply (without quotes) was obtained from your last msg addressed to me and is traceable back to the original nonreply msg which has a MSGID but no REPLY since it wasn't an actual reply.

    Maurice

    Maurice,

You're beginning to sound like my mother, a little bit also like Wilfred, explaining me the obvious as if I were a total newbee and/or ignorant.

These are the MSGID/REPLY kludges from my last three messages to you in this conference.

    Date: 23 Mar 24 17:43:07
    MSGID: 2:292/854 182d1c21

    Date: 23 Mar 24 18:22:47
    MSGID: 2:292/854 19194667

    Date: 24 Mar 24 00:23:44
    MSGID: 2:292/854 071a442b

    Nothing wrong there, right?

And this is the MSGID/REPLY kludge from your message I am responding to:

    Date: 24 Mar 24 00:20:09
    MSGID: 2:280/464.113 65ff71b9

Please compare that to what's in the header of this message. Seems purrrfectly OK to me, my cat would say (if I had one).

If there is an issue you need to be more specific because I'm not seeing it. However, if something indeed is missing when it arrives at your system then I suggest the following things:

    a) I notice one time you're writing from a node-address and the next time you're writing from a point-address. Buggy configurations?

    b) Buggy Linux-software? You're a Linux-guy and I guess my messages here reach you via Wilfred, who is also a Linux-guy ...

Within a few minutes Wilfred will respond with a more in-depth analyses...

    Enjoy the week-end,

    \%/@rd

    Hey Ward!

You failed to answer the question which had nothing to do with fts-0009.001 from a technical pov.

If nobody is allowed to quote your MSGs without your permission then is the REPLY part, which is copied from your MSGID not the same as quoting without permission? This is not a technical question.

As for my differing addresses they are both valid and I have access to both in order to test these sorts of ideas, hence the differing configurations. Also they are two independent machines. Also, also have two other machines with their own point addresses off of this node which I can easily alter to suit whatever testing I care to come up with, most of which has nothing to do with fidonet or anything like it. Most of my software is geared towards development (compilers, interpretors, shells, etc). Dealing with people, such as yourself, has always been a weak spot with me.

I look forward to Wilfred's reply.

    Life is good,
    Maurice
