• Moving Mystic from Win32 to Linux

From CalvusRex@21:1/101 to All on Thu Sep 3 03:39:13 2020
Has anyone successfully moved their Mystic board from W32 to Linux? I would like to do this but want to make sure I retain my users and my local subs.

Links to a how-to or info on how to make this happen is appreciated!

I just did it and it worked but there were a couple of hiccups... I recommend copying you windows \mystic to another directory on windows machine and making your changes there before copying to linux ( I dont know why you should accept that it worked better for me this way) in your copy of mystic change all the paths in cfg to match linux dir scheme, then change msg base directories (make sure to do this, cause of another hiccup) you can do a global base path change in the msg base but your file areas you will have to do one at a time. Next make sure you change the executable in events editor from like fidopoll to ./fidopoll or whatever.. Lastly change all your .ini file paths to linux scheme as well... then I deleted all the windows executables and copied it over a fresh install of linux mystic on the linux machine... after your copying make sure to check permissions in the new linux mystic directory verify they are correct, and fire it up! Mine has been up for two weeks without issue now...

Let me know if any of this does not make sense to you.

Forgot one thing, I think its a good idea to make sure your windows mystic version on windows is the same as what you will run on linux, if not upgrade windows version then do the steps I suggested...

Thanks for all the info Rick!

I think what I will do is try your method out on a Linux Docker image and then if I get that all running, copy that to the server that will host the BBS.

I'll let y'all know how it turns out!
