• Mystic and windows 11

From Solaris@21:2/1202 to All on Mon Oct 31 06:41:03 2022
So I moved all my bbs stuff and the FSXnet Hub 2 to windows 11 and I thought I would hare some up and downs.

1: Windows 11 hates my DOS batch files , This is odd, In order for my batches to work , the ones that load everything on startup I had to add a time out line for example
    cd\mystic1202\
    start mis poll killbusy all
    timeout /t 10
    start mis -server

With out the time out windows would not load random instances with in the batch on startup ... weird

2: windows 11 hates alt+enter to make older programs full screen depending on you windows screen resolution. some stuff needs F11 and some stuff just will go full screen if you run larger resolution.

3: Windows 11 is either really smart or really likes Mystic, I did not , as of yet need to open and ports in windows firewall manually. It seems to handle mystic well and does not get upset .

4: Virtual Box went really well in 11 , way better then in 10. I run my tradewars server in a VM with windows XP and the setup was super easy and
out side users can connect directly to the VM with out any config or terminal work.

All in all I really like windows 11, I hate the hardware requirements but love the OS. If I run into any flaky issues ill post

I am running 11 on my main machine for now, most likely will move to Debian at some point in the future, but for now it runs pretty well.. I don't like some of the things like right clicking a file in Explorer brings up a small menu and options like editing a text file in Notepad ++ has to be clicked on via a more options menu. I like having my start button in the middle but miss the menu of files which automatically showed now you have to click all apps. Overall, it runs well on my machine.

Should consider .cmd files or .ps1 if you can... you'll get more
options... if you're really adventurous, you can try msys bash (comes
with git for windows) and use bash scripts.

Yeah, there isn't a native mode fullscreen, so the default apps won't
really do that... On the plus side, you can install the new Windows
    Terminal.

IIRC, it asks the first time you try to bind to a port what to do.

If you're running a Pro license key, you may want to give Hyper-V a
look, it's in the box and pretty decent, like it a bit better than
VirtualBox, will also operate seemlessly with WSL and Docker Desktop.

First time I saw an advert in the windows menu search results, I was
out. Linux full time for a while since. Back on Win10 for the new job,
do miss WSLg though, not able to run gui linux apps in my wsl
environment (without jumping through major hoops) is less than great.
