Gonna throw this out there for those running A48, what are the issues you are having if any? I currently am having issues with my echos not tossing after a couple of mis poll forced in my events. The system if I try to run mailin.ini via the mutil command shows busy nodes. I check the semaphore directory and it shows the poll.bsy is present. If I kill that, and try again it still shows busy nodes, I have a backup of my in and out directories and I have to kill the current directories and add back the backups and it runs fine. All directories are correct since the changeover to Debian 11. anyone else having issues like this? This sytem ran fine in Windows with no issues at all with the exception of the typical windows updates rebooting the system. Thanks in advance for any info or advice..

I just updated to the newest a48 as of 9/28/2022 - with preAlphas, I see
some issues as g00 builds. Yes I've seen .bsy issues, but the newer a48 were doing better @ 2o.. I'll let you know if any issues now; when on alpha, always upgrade to newest if you hit any little issues.

I have some [not great to run] kill busy scripts if getting mail is the paramount. :P

The latest is 7/15.. Ok glad it is not just me.. I am keeping an eye on the inbound directory and today it seems ok, I do have a poll.bsy in my semaphore directory, but everything seems to be working.. I guess I am a little touchy right now as this is a brand new install of A48 in Linux, I was running in Windows with no issues.. Thanks Paulie..

I have just added a event to kill poll.bsy every hour, only because after I deleted it tonight I ran a forced mail run and picked up like 4 message packets waiting for me on other boards.. I guess this is a bug in Linux only as my Windows system did not have this issue.. The bad part is I am forcing a delete of poll.bsy but the good part is it's a bug and now g00r00 can track it down...

I'm not having any of these problems, running Ubuntu 22.04 with 64 bit Mystic. You can see the complete version/date/etc along with this message, honestly I can't remember what version I'm running and it's possible I'm a bit out of date :)

poll.bsy is a sucky one, tho - and one to watch for - because it holds up ALL of your installed FTNs. it won't poll at all if poll.bsy is present when it shouldn't be.

furthermore, you can watch each FTNs individual /subdir in /echomail... those are the .bsy's that get wiped with... ./mis poll killbusy (or whatever that KILLBUSY command is.)

Yea, it is weird, I am having semaphore issues, gonna keep an eye on it I did a ./mis poll killbusy and it killed about 4 .bsy semaphores this morning and since then it has been rock solid.. We'll see in the morning..

Yea, I added in a event to kill poll.bsy every hour just before it does it's forced poll.. The other busy's were strange, everything was running fine all night long, checked at 7am this morning and at 9am I had about 8 pkt's waiting to be tossed, I shut down the system and ran the killbusy command and it killed like 4 different bsy files in my outbound directories. Since then it has been fine.. I will see what I find tomorrow morning.. Thanks though for the info.. This changeover from Windows to Linux has been eyeopening for me, I have a greater understanding now of the ins and outs of this software..

g00 has been aware, before, of .bsy issues and did a good job tracking down the bugs at the end of a47. a48 has been a bit better, but every now and again I do have a poll.bsy hanging around...

He suggests NOT to run scripts that delete .bsy files, but I understand the desire to doso... I just did a live test, and I have no poll.bsy on 2o's system.

I suggest always bouncing to the newest build if your on an alpha, and revisiting the use of any script with each update - getting rid of it as soon as Mystic is being reliable enough. :P Hmph...

Hmmm, Ok, I will stop the deletion of poll.bsy.. It's funny because I never had this issue with the Windows side, just getting it now in Debian, I figured out an easy way of fixing it now, when I see built up files in the inbox, I shut down MIS gracefully, then just run the MIS POLL KILLBUSY and it kills the files in question then run an multil mailin and I am good to go, hopefully he can get to the bottom of this.. :)

I am running the latest version he released.. If I upgrade to a pre-alpha I go through with it fully until he releases it a RC. Then I will wait a month or so to get to more stable copies..

As a quick followup Paulie, I know I am jinxing myself but I made a couple of minor changes, which seems to have fixed all of my issues, I had my forced poll on the top of the hour, what was happening was most of my other feeds were also using the same time. I would go into Forced and they would dump the packets in my inbound and mutil which was already running would toss a busy flag. The forced poll would finish, and mutil would still have the busy flags set. Mutil would exit and the packets would sit in the inbound. The following incoming would then just pile up, mainly because the bsy flags were still in the OUTBOX not the inbox mutil would have a bsy flag in the semaphore directory also. At that point I would have to shut down MIS and do a poll kill busy which would kill all of the bsy files. Reboot the BBS and sometimes it would go 12 or 14 hours before again the same thing would happen.. NOW what I did was move my poll time to 14 minutes after. I know g00r00 doesn't like scripts to kill bsy files, but I added a even to kill the poll.bsy file at 12 minutes after. Since making these changes everything is fine, no bsy files and no poll.bsy left behind.. I will remove the event to delete poll.bsy in a few days if things continue to work properly..

Jeez, what a time this has been, I think I finally have everything working! The GMail password reset was due to the cryptlib library, I found a post which explained what to do to assemble it correctly and bang that started working. SSH also started working properly. I think things are finally coming together.. Bout time!! LOL Thank you and everyone else here for all the help...

Neat, thanks for YOUR explanation of .bsy issues, I'll check to see if any of that might be helpful in tracking down mine. (Mostly no issues.)

Glad yer getting your Linux install all ironed out - its always something.

I'm now getting new EAccess Violations in a certain mod I use; just starting to learn about it... I'm sure I'll post about it shortly, after I get more details.
