• Fetch older messages from echoes and filebone?

From 2twisty@21:1/999 to All on Wed Mar 30 02:22:00 2022
Is there a way to request to download older messages from echoes and filebone?

I just got set up with the fsxNet echoes, and it would be nice to fetch the backlog for review / archive / search.

Same deal with the filebone stuff.

Space is not an issue, but I imagine bandwidth could be for the sender / hub, so I'd be sure to find out if it was cool before doing it.

Generally, Netmail an AREAFIX where the body of the message reads:
    %RESCAN *

There is a way to get older messages, but no easy way to download older files. Before I tell you how, I must urge you to wait until you have a permanent node assignment. Doing this while you're still on 21:1/999 *will* cause some confusion later.

Send a netmail to AreaFix on your hub's node address with the hub password as the topic line. The body of the message can have certain commands, all starting with the % symbol. Use %HELP for a full list. For example, the following will have a reply with all of the commands, and have all messages from the last seven days pushed out via BinkP:

    To: AreaFix (21:1/100)
    Topic: LETMEIN
    Message:
    %HELP
    %RESCAN * 7

Again, I feel the need to say this: wait until you get your permanent node assignment. It can cause problems, when you switch it. It did for me.

Normally, this process is much faster. However, Avon is currently on 'vacation', so it may take a bit longer. Fun fact, Avon is Mystic Guy!
