Hi all,
I'm new to Mystic BBS.
Glad you picked Mystic as a BBS software - its my favorite!
I can't seem to figure out how to properly
edit or remove the canned bulletins
Ok... lets go into your main /mystic directory. Mine is at ~/mystic. (If yer using Windows, yours might be like C:\mystic) Navigate to:
~/mystic/themes/default/text
What that MEANS is... off your Mystic main folder, you're going into your themes - then into the default theme - and then into the 'text' folder that holds all ascii/ANSI files. :P Now, or a dir or ls on:
ls bullet*
You'll likely see:
bullet1.asc bullet2.asc bulletin.asc
bulletin.asc is the ascii that is displayed as a 'menu'. You can modify this, create a bulletin.ans file with ANSI graphics if you like - or leave it alone. Lets say you wanted 5 bulletins - you could edit bulletin.asc and add 3 more bulletins; 3,4,5 & their descriptions.
bullet1.asc and bullet2.asc can be edited and they will become bulletin 1 and bulletin 2 text that is shown to the user. If you add any more bulletins, they would be named bullet3.asc bullet4.asc, etc. Same as before, you could create bullet3.ans if you wanted said bulletin to have ANSI graphics. :P
That covers the basics, for most systems... now if you ever want to get advanced, you could modify the MPL code OF the bulletin.mps. These are called scripts, and located in:
~/mystic/themes/default/scripts
bulletin.mps is the actual CODE thats run. If you wanted to go down that rabbit hole, you could totally customize how every facet of your bulletins work - but thats more advanced for sure.
or how to edit the one-liners that
are shown at login.
Theres many ways to modify your one-liners. You could use an external, custom Mystic mod like xqtr's Voteliner. It is a better, more advanced, oneliners mod for Mystic. You can find it on 2o [20ForBeers.com:1337] in the 'xqtr Mystic Mods' file area...
Furthermore, if your BBS has fsxNet you could run an inter-BBS oneliners mod called IBOL [Inter-BBS One Liners] at is networked between some 50 or so BBSes... if you login to 2o, you'll notice both Voteliners AND IBOL in my login sequence, so long as you don't take the rocket login option. :P
I haven't used the stock mystic one-liners in forever, but they CAN be modified heavily... I'll let someone else answer this one, cause its easy enough - but I haven't used it in more than a couple years.
If someone can point me in the right direction,
that would be awesome.
Hoped this helped a LITTLE, anyway. :P Cheers, SixtyFour!
