From Ricky DeLuco@21:1/136 to All on Sat Jun 8 22:08:49 2024
Well this week is going to be a little bitter sweet. This last 43 years I have dedicated my life to two carriers. After turning 18, I spent the next 21 years serving with the US Navy. Then spent the next 22 years in the Technology industry. I do believe at 43 years, it is time to call it quits and retire.

So, this week I am going to file my intent to retire and begin to look and hire a replacement. I am giving myself until 12/31 and that is it... I am finished.

At my age I am finding it hard to even get motivated any more and working along side of folks 1/2 my age with the work ethics I simply just don't agree with, its just time to move on.

As far as the BBS .... I started this BBS with WWIV in 1992 and setting aside about 10 years of not online, I have had one all these years. It is not my intention to retreat from the BBS, however, periods of auto pilot is a real possibility.

Maybe I can be a Walmart greeter with a Walter Puppet on my lap!

While I'm not jealous of your age, I'm certainly jealous that you get to finally 'hang up the work boots'. Contratulations!

That's one of the great things about this hobby. It doesn't need your constant attention. If you need a break, take it!

    Regards,
    Nick

... Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Both Navy and the technology industry have been fortunate to have your input, hard work and involvement with them :)

I think if you do anything for a very long time similar feelings can likely arise. Eating candy and drinking beer aside... just saying.

Take a break from it if you need to / want to but the thing I like about this hobby is you can put it down and pick it up again as/when you wish... and I can attest how there are some systems around certainly on auto pilot, thankfully not all but at least the software works :)

Maybe I can be a Walmart greeter with a Walter Puppet on my lap!

I hope the coming year brings some new perspectives and enjoyable times ahead for you Ricky.

    Best, Paul

I agree with the work ethics of the younger crowd. I will not join leadership as a result. I do not want the lack of everyone else's effort to affect my pay.

Congrats on the retire. I will be stuck working for many more years to come. Hope you find all the fun you have been building for.
