    part of the japanese dish "omurice" is fried rice fried with.. ketchup. it's actually quite nice! but i like ketchup with eggs too

    I like ketchup and mustard on hot dogs.. And I think ketchup goes pretty good with french fries (and onion rings too).

    One time I saw somene dip a tuna sandwich in ketchup.. That's the only time I've ever seen anyone have ketchup with tuna.

    Yeah, that's pretty good too. And I've seen some fast food places and restaurants carry what they call "fry sauce", which seems to me is just thousand island dressing.

    When did ketchup on hot dogs become such a controversial thing? I've always eaten hot dogs with ketchup and mustard, as one variant (chili dogs are another one). I don't recall there ever being a debate about ketchup on hot dogs, but this sounds similar to the pineapple on pizza debate..

    Yeah, there are a couple places in my area that use a variant of thousand island for their burgers. I think it's pretty good. There's another in my area that has their own burger sauce that they make which I think is fairly good, and they even sell it in bottles.

    We have a bottle of HP sauce at home all the time, it's like a better A1 sauce, and is great on fries.

    I often saw HP sauce in a local grocery store chain (Fred Meyer, which has now been owned by Kroger for years), so I didn't think much of it. Only a couple years ago, I learned that HP sauce is from the UK, and it seems it isn't as common in the US as I assumed it was.

    I'll be heading there soon, but may go more for the pizza.

    I think I like Detroit style the best, and Chicago-style is... weird, but I still prefer it over a variety of thin-crust versions.

    As blasphemous as that may be.

    And I will resist ranting about pineapple on pizza. Talk about controversial, though...

    (But all in fun. Thus why it'd be allowed, as while I have _strong_ opinions on it, I'm not _serious_ about it, as food preferences are a personal thing. If I'm bothering someone, it's wholly non-intentional, beyond a light amount of non-serious teasing.)

    it's weird because french fries go fine, people have pickles on hot dogs. but those seem weirddddd

    Imagine eating a nice juicy burger.. or hot dog even, with pickles on it. Then dumping a bunch of ketchup over the top. Same thing, minus the bun and burger.

    Potato chips are the exact same thing as fries, except sliced differently before frying them. Same boat.

    Now mind you, I don't eat pickles or potato chips with ketchup, either. I was just playing devils advocate. :)

    Ketchup is a popular potato chip flavor in Canada. I've tried ketchup chips, and I actually like them.

    Yeah, pickles with ketchup is unusual.. I've seen people put relish on hot dogs, but not pickle slices. But yeah, even pickles & relish have vinegar, which is also in ketchup, so perhaps ketchup would go well with pickles..

    :) I tend to prefer thin-crust pizza. To me, thick crust and deep dish pizza often feels like the ratio of crust/bread to toppings is wrong (too much crust/bread). But it can still be good sometimes.

    according to some youtube video i watched the rumor is they used scrap sheet metal to make the pans for the pizza. and while i doubt it (if you can convince an italian to cook a pizza on a pan in the first place it better be a nice one) it's a fun idea ;)

    speaking of pizza.. i think i could eat it .. four days in a row?

    1) detroit style - preferably Jet's
    2) new york style - hopefully greasy a.f. this probably can't be a chain..
    3) "little caesars" or perhaps frozen - looking for that "junk" taste
    4) neapolitan / other authentic pizza . googled around a bit and now i wanna
    try this one with zucchini and eggplant.. mmmm

    perhaps day five could be a meatball sub lol

    Have you ever had a Bloomin' Onion from Outback (when they were still in Canada)? We've made them at home a few times along with the dipping sauce, I think the Food Network has a recipe online.

    While the Bloomin' Onion itself is fine & more of a novelty, the we do make just the sauce every so often when we have onion rings (even good ones).

    Bringing us back to the "ketchup topic"....

    Back in college, I had a roommate who was... let's say "acted like he had had a frontal lobotomy", to be nice. I.e. he couldn't think ahead.

    Every week, I would get pizza fixings - just a crust/sauce combo, cheese and toppings - make a big pizza, eat a slice or 2 then put the rest in the fridge for later that week.

    He decided that he wanted to do the same thing. So he bought a crust mix. That's all.

    After the crust is made, oiled and spread out in the pan, and the oven pre-heating, he opens the fridge and says "there's no sauce". Like the fridge was a magic box like the Room of Requirement from Harry Potter. So he used ketchup (see what I did there?).

    Then he opens the fridge back up and says "there's no pizza cheese". Why he thought that pizza cheese would magically appear since the last time he looked, I have no idea. Now my grandma had given us some of that gov't cheese - which tastes great on grilled cheese. So he grated some of that on to his ketchup covered pizza dough.

    And third time's the charm, he opens the magic food box back up only to complain that there were no pizza toppings. No substitute here. He puts his processed american cheese topped, ketchup covered, pizza into the oven.

    Needless to say, it did **not** turn out to be a good pizza. And he complained how his pizza didn't turn out like mine.

    I actually don't have strong feelings about ketchup on hot dogs, although
    I prefer mustard only on a "plain" dog. Chili dogs and conies are
    excellent provided the sauce is good.

    Now, puting pineapple in pizza is, for me, a true blasphemy. ;) I do
    not like pineapple in general.

    slices were rectangles. I would use extra napkins to dab the grease off

    I didn't really like pineapple when I was a kid, but I did like Hawaiian pizza (with pineapple and Canadian bacon). Maybe it was similar to mayonnaise, where I didn't really like it by itself but I thought it could be good on other stuff. These days, I have more liking for pineapple, and even like pineapple juice mixed with other things sometimes.

    For a while, Carl's Jr. had a teriyaki burger which had teriyaki sauce and a grilled pineapple slice on it. I though tit was pretty good. I don't think they have that burger anymore.

    Here in California, we do horrible things in the name of Pizza,

    Went to the pizzeria and got a slice of pepperoni pizza. The crust was
    to die for, and I've never been able to find a comparable crust on this
    coast. It was soft and crunchy at the same time, and thin enough to
    fold and eat properly.

    You're close. It's a sub like bun with sliced, spiced beef. They take the cooking juices (think aus jus) and pour it over the beef depending on how "soggy" you want it. They'll add cooked, long strips of sliced green peppers if you ask.

Sort of like a very firm Velveeta. It melted nice and had a good flavor. Us college guys made grilled cheese sandwiches. Sometimes we made mac and cheese too.

    Assuming it didn't come pre-made, I am guessing that is what they used
    their government cheese for.

    I'll add to that - running Windows 3.11 and using tools that created a
    SLIP connection over a dial-up shell account, because a true PPP
    account was too expensive. I think I used slIRP, capitalized something
    like that.

    Surprisingly, there are decent cheese steak places in California where
    they don't put sprouts or avocado on, or have a gluten-free bun or
    impossible beef. The key is the place has to have the words "cheese
    steak" in the name. Get a cheesesteak anywhere else and it's horrid.

    The CheeseSteak Shop in Oakland, CA had a great cheesesteak sandwich,
    steak fries seasoned with paprika, cokenotpepsi and those packaged
    TastyKake "twinkies" - which apparently are a Philly thing.

    We just got a neopolitan-style pizza join in downtown Santa Cruz, CA.

    Bringing us back to the "ketchup topic"....

    Back in college, I had a roommate who was... let's say "acted like he
    had had a frontal lobotomy", to be nice. I.e. he couldn't think ahead.

    Every week, I would get pizza fixings - just a crust/sauce combo, cheese and toppings - make a big pizza, eat a slice or 2 then put the rest in
    the fridge for later that week.

    He decided that he wanted to do the same thing. So he bought a crust
    mix. That's all.

    After the crust is made, oiled and spread out in the pan, and the oven pre-heating, he opens the fridge and says "there's no sauce". Like the fridge was a magic box like the Room of Requirement from Harry Potter.
    So he used ketchup (see what I did there?).

    Then he opens the fridge back up and says "there's no pizza cheese".
    Why he thought that pizza cheese would magically appear since the last time he looked, I have no idea. Now my grandma had given us some of
    that gov't cheese - which tastes great on grilled cheese. So he grated some of that on to his ketchup covered pizza dough.

    And third time's the charm, he opens the magic food box back up only to complain that there were no pizza toppings. No substitute here. He
    puts his processed american cheese topped, ketchup covered, pizza into
    the oven.

    Needless to say, it did **not** turn out to be a good pizza. And he complained how his pizza didn't turn out like mine.

    Was he high? :D

    It's 11:32 am local time here and I am now officially hungry! Unfortunately, I'm on a grain free diet and had to give up the bread. Life's a bit?h when you get old!

    Ketchup goes well with French Fried Potatoes.
    Used to like Arby's Curly Fries but ate them without any toping(s), now I order the Crinkle Fries and of course place a dab of Ketchup on each portion as I eat it .

    I'm counting calories religiously - it's the first time I've tried that. I've had to manage my weight continually - lost 75 pounds on Weight Watchers back in 2000, then have tried plant only, Atkins, Keto, and WW again, with short-term success.

    This works pretty well, I don't limit what I eat, just limit portion sizes. I'm tracking in the FitBit software, which also tracks steps and facotrs exercize in to calorie counts.

    I saw a family member sprinkling Franks Tobbasco Sauce on Scrambled Eggs
    I asked to try some of it too and was told that I wouldn't like it.
    I kept on asking and finally got ONE drop put on my Scrambled Eggs, I ate one bite and never again wanted anymore Franks Tobbasco Sauce on any food.

    Since the early 1990's when McDonald's began serving Breakfast Burritos w/ mild Picante Sauce, I have got a Jar of Mild Taco Sauce and use it on Scrambled Eggs.
    I tried Mild Taco Salsa but don't like that as well as Taco Sauce, even tho I see Salsa advertised .more often in places I frequent.

    Weekends we used to make pizza too. We've get dough mix and we had a store selling the govt' cheese which was very orange and oily.

    Before covid, I was hiking/backpacking 40-50 miles per week in the Virginia mountains. We had to move due to wife losing her job. We ended up in
    eastern Texas where there aren't any mountains nor much in the way of hiking opportunities. I put on 20 pounds the first year so started running/walking
    on treadmills. Didn't help diabetes plus the boredom drove me crazy! Finally got hooked up with doctor who suggested the no grain diet. My testing
    numbers have since plummeted.:) Plus I've lost over half of the weight. It's really a mind game now.

    While in Virginia, I had a fitbit that I wore religiously. It got to the
    point that the battery died, wouldn't charge. I miss it.

    I think ketchup can be good on onion rings. I also like to eat them plain. There are some places that I've eaten at that offer other condiments that are pretty good on onion rings.

    Ketchup goes well with French Fried Potatoes. Used to like Arby's Curly Fries but ate them without any toping(s), now I order the Crinkle Fries and of course place a dab of Ketchup on each portion as I eat it .

    I think Arby's curly fries taste good enough to be eaten without ketchup, though sometimes I like ketchup on those too. If I order from Arby's and get fries, I pretty much always order their curly fries rather than the crinkle fries.

    When I was a kid, I sometimes liked Thousand Island dressing on salad. I haven't done that in years though. I tend to prefer Thousand Island on other things now - either as a condiment for fries or as a spread on a hamburger.

    There is more to this, but essentially for every 57 calories it's one point.

    Their new system is just confusing. I've stuck to this plan and I've been good over the years.

    There are toasters that have an egg poacher on the side that you can use to make English muffin egg sandwiches. Usually you can also heat a
    frozen sausage patty in the poacher if you like sausage on it.

    Madison York Microwave Omelette Maker.
    Bought one of those at Ollie's for abt $5 USD.
    Went back to buy more to give out but couldn't find anymore of them.

    In January I searched and noticed Wal-Mart has them only online for a few bucks more than I paid for mine.

    If You get one, place it on a microwave safe plate when using it because the halves will flip downward when handling it & causing the beaten eggs to spill out . (using the plate isn't mentioned on the paper included with the item)
    I learned that the hard way. And Yes I did follow the printed instructions.

    After preparing the eggs and separately preparing the filling(s).
    Cooking the omelette takes 3 minutes in the microwave.

    My wife thought I was stupid paying 5 Bucks for it.
    After I cooked the first one she saw doing that was a lot easier than making an omelette in the saucepan and loves making omelettes w/ it too.

    If the maker isn't on a plate /\ is the shape it unfolds to.
    Thought I would include. ^. a graphic of how it. looks unfolded.

    I don't think going is necessary at all.

    That would be interesting. I wonder how the omlettes come out in the microwave, and if that makes it easier to cook omlettes. I like cooking omlettes, and over the years I think I've gotten alright at cooking them in a pan, where I can flip the egg mixture in the pan without it falling apart.

    I'd be surprised if it was cheaper to buy a pizza at a pizza restaurant compared to buying the ingredients and cooking your ownat home. For a while now, it seemed to me that pizza restaurants tend to charge a lot for their pizza, at least if you're buying a large one. For a large pizza, some pizza restaurants in my area charge about $25 to $30 or more, depending on the pizza. When I was growing up, I seem to remember it would often cost around $20 for a pizza that would feed our small family.

    Some are less expensive, especially bake-at-home pizza shops (such as Papa Murphy's). And of course, the frozen ones from the supermarket are fairly inexpensive.

    Remember folks, this was like 1993... and it was more about the activity than the food at that point. it was a weekend thing to do, staying with a cousin who lived on a real back road, still had a party line for phone, you got the cheese at the deli part of the gas station and rented a movie on the other end of the store. There was no cable, there was no antenna even in that hollow.
    Modernity and at a rapid pace but for a while it was pretty isolated.

    Franks Red Hot? It's great on chicken wings, but I'd have to agree with you there. I wouldn't put it on eggs. Mild Salsa works wonders on eggs, though.

    Is it the chunks in the salsa that sways you more towards taco sauce?

    it's kind of weird, there was a whole sort of parallel bbs community on the "freenets" back then. with the added benefit of being able to actually use
    the shell account to do "work" if you were into that sort of thing.

    of course if you were in university you'd probably have access to their servers instead (and in fact some of the docs for pine on the internet still include help for accessing email at specific schools)

    this takes me back to the same days using Pine for email and Tin for Usenet etc... I recall using ytalk (I think) to chat with someone in the USA at a St Louis university using the Internet... this was circa 1994/1995 I think.

    ytalk... we had the Apple User club BBS back then, weirdly running on a 486 with an early Slak install. We had a 4 way ytalk chat with the admin guys that really new what they were doing. While the GF of the time and myself, still had training wheels on, we just happened to be hosting the hardware.
    Probably a few years earlier though, 92/93 maybe.

    Back then there was no way to host a multiline dialup system on a Mac. AU/X didn't support PPP. Apple was dropping, and there was no software for MacOS
    of the age either.

    Nice... This looks interesting... However to do an omelette, you would still need to cut up all the vegetables and anything else you toss in it.

    The cooking part on the pan I don't mind, it's the prep work for it.

    Wow! I've never seen these before. Very interesting...

    Indeed. I think they may have been eclipsed by the various chat clients
    like AIM, etc. The people I used to talk to over talk migrated to those,
    so we stopped using talk.

    I think it might be sort of neat to have something like talk so that
    users on one bbs could chat with users on another, but I guess that is
    what the irc is for. :)

    I did not realize that was what it was called. ;) They used to
    make
    it on huge rectangular cooking pans, like one might make cookies
    on but
    much larger.

    We just got a neopolitan-style pizza join in downtown Santa Cruz, CA.
    Sounds like what we in California call "flatbread". I'm looking
    forward to trying it out.

    Let us know how good it is. The school pizza was not really like
    flatbread in that the crust underneath was not thick at all.

    Picante Sauce, I have got a Jar of Mild Taco Sauce and use it on
    Scrambled Eggs.

    Many moons ago, when I was in college and a friend of mine was back on
    leave, he scrambled some eggs along with some of what I think was

    staying with a cousin who lived on a real back road, still had a party
    line for phone, you got the cheese at the deli part of the gas station
    and rented a movie on the other end of the store. There was no cable,
    there was no antenna even in that hollow.
    Modernity and at a rapid pace but for a while it was pretty isolated.

    Agreed although, to be fair, I really don't like pineapple on much of
    anything. Back in the 1970s, or maybe early 80s, there were some orange
    juices that included pineapple or grapefruit juice in them because,
    presumably, those were cheaper at that time. I used to drink OJ all the
    time but not when it had one of those in it. I didn't like those fruits
    that much to begin with, and the thought of that adultered, sour orange
    juice put me off of either for good.

    The one time I don't mind pineapple flavoring is when a ham has been
    baked with pineapple. I won't eat the pineapple, but the juices don't
    taste bad on a ham. ;)

    Wonderful that You can flip an omelette perfectly!

    This microwave thingy is first cooked with the halfs opened flat.
    Next Cheese and other fillings are placed on to each half and cooked.
    Then snap the maker's half together (there isn't any Click noise, just flipping one side over the other).
    After the third time cooking is done, you have a half round omelette ready to go on the dish.
    3 minutes of cooking time, Total.

    The Prep work does require time but the finished products results is well worth it
    We only add Sharp Cheddar Cheese to the ones we make.

    Aside: Another piece of kitsch I would love is a Teasmade. It's an old
    bakelite looking nightstand alarm clock with a built in kettle and
    light. Put it on your nightstand, the alarm goes off, the light goes on

    apparently people buy those little UHP cream pots that don't need
    refrigeration and put them in the drawer.

    I don't remember them making us any cookies at lunch. The probably did
    and I have forgotten them. I do remember making giant chocolate chip
    cookes on round pizza pans in home-ec in jr high, though!

    I like a good pizza, and I tend to like pretty much anything from Costco. One thing about their pizzas is that they're almost too big for some home ovens. I remember buying one years ago and it was so big that it touched the glass window on the oven door when it was in the oven, and it had to be squished in just slightly.

    Agreed although, to be fair, I really don't like pineapple on much of anything. Back in the 1970s, or maybe early 80s, there were some orange juices that included pineapple or grapefruit juice in them because, presumably, those were cheaper at that time. I used to drink OJ all the time but not when it had one of those in it. I didn't like those fruits

    Over here in NZ they used to sell fruit "flavored" drinks with an apple

    On its way to our semi-regular christmas ham. Scored with cloves punched
    into it. Pineapple and glace cherries pinned to the top, and heated for an
    hour and a half or so. So long as the pineapple has had a chance to
    caramalise and not got burnt to a crisp, it goes well with the ham in question... a bit of flavour goes both ways..

    One year, we had Apples coming out of our Wazoo.. bought a 2.5acre block that was covered in Apple trees. Was also a good year for blackberries. After
    that we put steers in there to keep the grass down, and they ate the trees
    too. But there were red and gold delicious as well as Grannys in there.

    Spent the next few years poisoning the blackberries, horribly persistant
    things they are. Those and the Scotch Thistles...

    I like a good pizza, and I tend to like pretty much anything from
    Costco. One thing about their pizzas is that they're almost too big for some home ovens. I remember buying one years ago and it was so big that it touched the glass window on the oven door when it was in the oven,
    and it had to be squished in just slightly.

    I'm going to have to grab one. We use to have a Costco card... To apparently save money, but we ended up always spending more money when we had it. So I let it lapse and haven't been there in years.

    That could be what happened here, too, and yes the chili was also good!

    There were many things I found ineddible but the pizza, chili, grilled
    cheeses, and (once I realized I liked them) tacos were not them. I also
    liked the pork patties... not the ones in mystery sauce but the ones with
    a breading that had some spices in it. They used to serve those with a
    roll and I'd make a sandwich out of them.

    The most ineddible things were the stewed tomatoes and the creamed corn.

    Yes, I looked into it a little more and it is indeed a product from 'yesteryear'. Very cool (and useful!) a while ago, I'm sure.

    Andrea pays for our cards. There is no way we save the membership money

    I wish I did, but I don't at the moment. Is there not a quote button (or reply with quote) on the web interface? If not, I would suggest making a feature request while echicken works on the next latest and greatest web interface!

    I had a friend who couldn't cook to save her life. Dinner parties were
    the worst, and I recall going to an all-night diner after one of them.

    She could, however, bake. I had a Braeburn apple tree in my back yard,
    and after a harvest one year, she took a ton of them with her. She came
    back a couple of days later with a couple of the best apple pies I'd
    ever had for us. Crusts from scratch, just the right amount of flakey
    and sweet.

    The center is supposed to be pineapple flavored but I'd say it's more pineapple inspired that flavored. I quite like them.

    Got a local supplier of decent apples and apple juice that attends one of the local farmer's markets. Can get all sorts of interesting apple & apple juice varieties. Not a big apple fan myself (though my partner is) but their Cox's Orange Pippin apple juice is quite nice, goes well with soda water on a hot day.

    Still researching for the Bluetooth device I saw in my searching months ago that had a cat5 Ethernet socket on it.
    Life would be much easier here if I could talk to this phone from my XP PC.

    No worries, Ed. But if you can, try to find the "reply with quote" button, or really, anything to do with quoting. You don't even have to trim the quote down if it's hard, just so long as we know what you're replying to.

    Your conversation is wonderful, it's just hard to know what you're replying to sometimes when 100s of messages go by.

    Some of the kids joined when they first arrived here. The missus went a few times, using the same card. Dragged me along once or twice, but there's
    nothing to my mind that is a "compelling" buy there, and nothing appears to
    be any cheaper. Can't see how you'd ever cover the cost of the card.

    I have much the same problem with ALDI. Can't get everything I want there,
    not enough to make it a need to go back again.. have ended up sticking with whatever major supermarket is near by.

    * The talk server, which is actually just kind of a little,

    The way the protocol works, in a nutshell, is that you send
    a talk "request" to a distant host by running the client.

    This does a couple of things: 1, sends a message to the `talkd`
    server _on your local machine_ saying that you want to talk to
    the remote user. If there's no existing request _from_ the remote
    user, it creates a listening socket and posts it's address locally
    _and_ sends a request to the `talkd` on the remote machine saying
    you want to talk. The `talkd` on the remote machine then writes
    a message to the remote user (provided the user is logged in and
    has configured their terminal to answer talk requests). If they
    chose to answer you, they then run talk locally in a similar manner
    to how you did:

    ytalk you@your.host.com

    Their local talk client talks to their local talk server, which
    has a record of your chat request and the socket your request is
    listening on. Your talk client then makes a TCP connection to
    that socket; at which point, both clients send a message to their
    local talk servers that acknowledges that the connection has been
    established, and they're done. You then proceed to talk to the
    other user via the TCP connection; the UI is usually a split
    screen affair.

    So in order for it to work, you have to have both the client
    installed, _and_ the talk server installed and configured to
    accept requests from the larger Internet. Most folks don't have
    the latter part set up (for good reasons; the protocol is totally
    insecure, and doesn't play well with firewalls and NAT'ing, etc).

    The "standard" talk daemon from Berkeley was run from `inetd`.

    Looks like it does have a quote button that shows up in firefox on a pc. Hopefully, it shows up on an android phone, too. ;)

    i've been thinking about this recently:

    most of the dos text experience was with an 8x16 font .. 640x400 for 80x25 cols/rows. this exactly matches a 1920x1200 monitor (which you can actually get)

    for a 1080p screen to match you could BBS at 22 rows.. 12 pixels top and bottom isn't as bad of a loss.. you'd lop off the top of most menu ansis but the message reader and all that would be fine. for the authentic bbs experience you can pretend your monitor is partially broken ;)

    buuuuut since you'd have viewed it on a monitor that forces 4:3 onto an 8:5 resolution back then anyways, i guess it's not really relevant. a modern monitor simply can't do what a crt does.

    i think personally if i was going to be picky i'd like to try out a nice 8x19 font.. that's pretty close to what dosbox might stretch a 4:3 text mode session to on a 1440p 16:9 screen.. you'd still have the bars on the side and lose 15 pixels (so maybe 7 on top 8 on bottom), but you could have the graphics library show the pixels 1:1 instead:

    where at exactly 2x, and specifically 3x for 1440p (57 pixels tall) it would have no, i duno, "smart" scaling done to it.

    It would be a lot slower though... maybe that's not a bad thing, but still XT class machines are rather limited. I moved away from my NECv20 clone build to the current 286 build due to how slow & occasionally frustrating it was.....

    Some of the kids joined when they first arrived here. The missus went a few times, using the same card. Dragged me along once or twice, but there's nothing to my mind that is a "compelling" buy there, and nothing appears to be any cheaper. Can't see how you'd ever cover the cost of the card.

    I reckon I've covered the cost of the membership by fuel alone.

    On average the fuel is 10-15c/litre cheaper, which translates to around $6/fill savings. Filling up 2x month, I probably breaks even on the membership fee.

    The goes there 2-3 month to buy food, but only specific items (meat, seafood) comes to mind and she says its a lot cheaper...

    All in all, I dont save that much I guess, but its convenient, only a couple of k's away.

    Unfortunately I do know what I'm missing :L TThe missus buys them from time
    to time when they're on sale. They are available at Woolworths. I don't

    We tend to pickup odds and ends from the "reguular" supermarkets, but if
    you're looking to fill the freezer head over to Tasman Meats. And the prices were either better or the same. Probably depends to some degree what you're actually buying though.

    Moorabbin? Its the closest for us too, not as convenient, although at least we've got the freeway these days.

    I remember when I was coding in college on an XT, using Microsoft C. My
    neighbor in the dorms had a 286 with a 287 math coprocessor and it
    compiled in a fraction of the time my system took. I bought a 286
    motherboard with a 287 and proceeded on my first time opening up a PC.
    Spent a couple of sleepless nights wondering what the heck I'd gotten
    myself into.

    AMD 386/40 was still the peak of DOS box evolution, IMO.

    Weren't most DOS programs designed for a 4:3 aspect ratio? I'd think you'd have the black bars on either side running DOSBox in full screen on a 16:9 monitor.

    for example, "telnet vert.synchro.net 11" (that is, port 11) will dump the currently active users, and a program made to use MSP could send messages to them..

    I suggest you use nc (or netcat) for that kind of thing instead of telnet though. :-)

    I traveled to Chicago recently, and we made sure to get some Chicago-style pizza while in Chicago.

    And it was good, though really more like eating lasagna than eating pizza.

    But when asked if it was my favorite type of pizza, because of preferring it over various thin-crust versions, I said no, because I think Detroit-style is my favorite type.

    And _that's_ weird because I think Detroit-style barely registers as being a distinct style.

    But I guess the combo of being able to have lots of toppings with bread that can support it winds up being my preference.

    Though, really, I should probably eat less pizza. :)

    Oh, the thought came mostly out of my mom trying to lower her cholesterol levels without taking a statin, so she's getting fairly close to a vegan diet, at this point, and that has meant less pizza.

    Or, well, it probably _should_, because for as many interesting fake options there are out there, cheese seems to be pretty darn hard.

    But, regardless, it would be good if I ate less pizza that didn't taste that great and wasn't great for me.

    Though pizza is hardly the worst-for-me thing I've eaten.

    Weird in what way? A lot of the pizza in the area here is probably fairly normal pizza, with the usual combination-style pizzas (usually with toppings like sausage, salami, onion, green pepper, olives, etc.), Hawaiian (Canadian bacon & pineapple), and other options, with thin or thick crust, etc.. I have my favorite places that I think make tasty pizza. There's also at least one chain (Pizza Schmizza) that makes some more unusual/weird pizzas (there's one with hickory smoked bacon, baby red potatoes, roma tomatoes, and sour cream; a steak & potato pizza; they also have another one that includes alligator sausage, and so on).

    It looks like it's Lovely's Fifty Fifty? I haven't heard of it. It looks like there's one in north Portland. It might be interesting to check it out.

    I'm on the west side.. Probably the closest local pizza chain to me is Belaggio's Pizza (which I think is pretty good) and Pizza Schmizza (which I also like).

    One good pizza place I like in Portland is Pizza Baron. I think they only have one location. I haven't been there in a while; I should probably go there again some time. Their pizza kinda reminded me of Pietro's, if you're familiar with them.

    I'm not familiar with Brampton style pizza, but I have heard of similar pizzas. There is a population of Indian people here as well, and there's a restaurant (or at least there was) near me called Curry and Crust which made Indian food and Indian-style pizzas.

    WOW!, That comment of mine was made on 16May24.
    It took me a long while scrolling upwards in this thread to see it.

    The opinion is in reference to my liking Taco Sauce instead of Taco Salsa because the latter product has chunks in it.
    While scrolling up through the posts I saw topics about ytalk server stuff, and there were other things talked about too!

    My not knowing how to 'find' a word in a thread on this phone is what caused me to hunt the post that I made the comment in.

    The word DIFFICULT doesn't explain fully my thoughts of how DIFFERENT using this cellphone compared to the computer(s) here in my room.

    At least quoting messages is easy now that I've been told how.

    On the subject of Food - I don't believe in Food Fights just because I use Taco Sauce on Scrambled Eggs.
    I like what I like, others like food that they like. No argument here.

    I told a manager at a Buffet my only complaint I had is that every time I walk in the place I waddle out.

    Are you eating the Kapok portion of the coconut? While I'm no fan of coconut in general, sawdust seems a little harsh. Unless wherever you are gets only really dry shredded...

    I mean the texture that you'd get in the candy bars that involve chocolate-covered coconut. So, yeah, it's not _really_ sawdust, but moistened sawdust covered in milk chocolate.

    I have oftentimes had a very strong sweet tooth, and I remember a time when I was interested in eating cake that a coworker had brought.

    Then I found that it was covered in coconut, and I no longer considered it food.

    That said, my mom's favorite candy bars are Mounds and Almond Joy, so whatever I _detest_ about it must be enjoyable for my mom.

    though. Only two things come to mind that I can look sideways at here with coconut in them, Cherry Ripe, and Bounty. Not big on Cherry Ripe but while there's a fair slab of coconut in there it doesn't seem to get in the way of the taste. Bounty on the other hand, near 95% coconut and I dunno what it is about that one, sometimes will get a hankering for it.

    Ahh by the image your Mounds is probably somewhat similar to aa Bounty.

    Yeah, I think it's called Bounty in Germany, too, but I'm pretty sure they're the same candy bar by the same company.

    I don't think there's a German equivalent of Almond Joy, but it's effectively a Bounty bar with an almond on top of it (if it's a tiny bar, or almonds spaced on top if it's larger), but covered in chocolate from there.

    And, yeah, I'm not sure I could even stand to lick them, as I'd probably get the occasional lick with coconut texture coming off of it.

    i think personally if i was going to be picky i'd like to try out a nice 8x19 font.. that's pretty close to what dosbox might stretch a 4:3 text mode session to on a 1440p 16:9 screen.. you'd still have the bars on

    ...I love this level of nerdiness, though, when confronted with (and horrified by):

    ultrawide monitor, I get two big black bars on either side, which ru

    ...I'd probably just get another monitor.

    Or, well, have black bars, since I'm typing this in a window where there's some scanned-documents and icons behind the SyncTERM window.

    But I know I've absolutely been that level of particular, though oftentimes it's in waiting forever to buy something, because I want a very particular setup of things.

    Since the pleasure of things just working / being the right form factor / etc., is quite nice, at least if you remember to think about when it wasn't.
