i have this commodore 64 with a rewind wifi modem I'm thinking about running a bbs server on it using Ivory but I'm a to scared to so because i think the caps might blow soon i did get a new power supply for it so at lest i don't have to worry about that what do you guys think ye or nee

If you want to run a BBS on a C64 and are worried about real hardware, run it on the Vice Emulator. I run 2 Image BBS' on Vice setups, one is a full blown CMD HD/Ramlink/SCPU setup running at 20mhz and 38.4k modem speed, and the other is my 1993 Image 1.2 board that is exactly the same as it was back on the day I took it offline. That one is running on a Vice with Lt Kernal HD set up. I have the real hard ware here if I wanted to run it but why destroy running a 40 year old computer 24/7 when you can pick up a off lease PC and dedicate it to Vice and emulation... It's worth looking into..

The other question is, why would you tie up your retro hardware on a
BBS that nobody will call? I would want to use my stuff for playing
games and the like not just sitting there waiting for nobody :)

Of course, emulators are a bit of a cheat too, since it's not the "real
deal" and people may think they're calling a real C64 bit in fact it's
a modern PC with a bit of software. Pick your poison I guess.

Sort of same consideration here. I do have a re-caped 64, but also an Ultimate64 Elite, so was thinking I'd use the U64. But something so cool
about running on OG hardware (albiet with SDcards and wifi modems!).

I'd definitely get those caps cheked out tho!

Once when I was at work, I called home to have my C=64 with a Super Snapshot cartridge (V5) in it to answer my phone call so I could send a .TXT file on a 5.25" floppy (IBM) from the XT Clone at work, to my Commodore 64 PC.
The file was several pages long and thought it will be easier reading it while at home .
The file was Instructions for The Online Bible V2.11 program when I was thinking of getting a 486 PC built and wanted the Bible on that new PC.

SNAPTERM was the name of the Terminal prg in the SS V5 CARTRIDGE.
(I Had to peek in the book to be sure I wasn't imagining something that wasn't so)

Yes, I do get long winded, ask the others here about that.
