Well it's a Friday afternoon over here in New Zealand, and technically we're in summer but so far it's bloody cold, and even on a day when 26 Celsius is forecast we've had wind, rain and cold temps so far.
I'm working from home today but am bunking off a bit to play BBS during lunch and look at some overdue admin etc.
The weekend will likely involve mowing lawns, some driving about in the car and perhaps family over for a meal.

Woke up way too early today and could probably have used another 2-3 hours extra sleep compared to what I got, but hopefully tonight.
Hope all is well with you :)

I didn't realize you were about a full day ahead of me. From the timestamp in your message, it was Thursday afternoon here (west coast
US). :)
I've worked a bit extra this week, so it looks like I'll be able to go home from work a couple hours earlier than usual tomorrow. My wife is staying over at her parents' house tomorrow evening and will be out Saturday, since she has some work stuff she needs to take care of early Saturday morning - And I know it might sound corny, but I miss my wife when she's away. I'll probably work on some of my BBS stuff though, and maybe play some games.
By the way, did you happen to get any netmails from me? I think it's working now, but I have a feeling a bunch i sent you were incorrect, and may have got eaten. They were just test messages, so nothing important.

That sounds like a Bay Area USA summer! ("coldest winter i ever spent
was a summer in San Francisco" some jerk once said...)
Not summer here obvs, and his weekend we're looking at typical December weather: mid 60's F (~16C) -- and some rain next week.
Hmm I think I did, let me check.. did you send them to 1/100 or 1/101?

I intended to send them to 101 but they could have been bad

It was 70 and sunny on the California coast 2 days ago. Expecting rain any minute now.
Preparing for a short week, instead of dealing with family schedules and drama, am going with the family up to wine country in California for a 3 day Christmas holiday with my immediate family and leaving the dogs with
a sitter.
Unfortunately, my son (from my previous marriage) has a house-sitting gig and won't be able to join us. His mom has been a big contributor to
family drama around christmas time for the past 18 years.
Have a Christmas dinner planned at a five-star restaurant, wine tasting, bocce and a hot tub at the house.
I'm ready for a break. I'm starting to get phantom phone vibrations,
when you think your phone is vibrating in your pocket but it's on the table. :(

Sounds nice, I'm working up to and including the Friday before
Christmas but then hope to take a couple of weeks off before heading
back. Mostly hanging out at home and some day trips planned.
Turns out I picked up a case of covid, which has totally messed with
our plans. My birthday present was a surprise event on the 22nd, and
we're not going to travel with my 84 year-old mom and possibly expose
her.
I blame the Christmas Charles Dickens fair I went to last weekend -
lots of people in an exhibition space.

good move, really sorry to hear you tested positive, yep there's a bit
of a 5th wave happening in NZ at the moment.. so far I have avoided
it... I hope you rest up and recover soon.

Anywho I moved to SoCal a number of months ago and I much prefer the weather here :P

Yeah, me too. I lived in Orange Country for 25 years, now 15 years in Riverside County. I travel to the bay area *many* times a year (in Berkeley as I type this) and damn, it's too cold! :-)

Wow. Couple of Cali residents complaining about the weather. I was born there, and came out every summer till I was a teenager to visit my dad.
It was hilarious when it was 50-60F people were out in full winter
jackets and I was running around in a T-shirt.
You think that's funny, you should try Mumbai. It can be
80 degrees out and you'll see people in sweaters, puffer
jackets, and sock caps because "it's cold."

You should see San Franciscans when the temp gets into the 90s
(fahrenheit, of course). Oh, the complaints!
When I lived in San Francisco, I lived in the Fog Belt, an area that
extended about a mile inland from the ocean side. I think the warmest I
ever saw was in the low 80s - and it wasn't in the summer!

Wow! What is the weather normally like if that is the threshold for
cold? 110+?
I couldn't imagine wearing a sweater or a sock cap/beanie over 60
degrees! Then again, here in Wisconsin we have both sides of a spectrum. Monday will be 0F and there will still be a few straggling crazy people wearing shorts. My father-in-law is one of them. ;)

Depends on the of year, of course, but yeah: usually in the
90s up to 100+ and humid. I made the mistake of taking a
train up to North India during December with only Mumbai-appropriate clothes. I was cold. :-D

From what my midwest colleagues are telling me right now,
they're pretty well buried under the snow. Youse can have
it. :-)
I bet. Our family and some friends took a trip to Arizona last year in
June. It was 105F all week, but I was only hot when directly in the
sun. Otherwise, in the shade it wasn't bad at all compared to 90F and
humid as all get out like it gets here in WI.
I went there, and SoCal, in September of last year. I agree, it didn't feel as hot unless you were out in the Sun. That said, one thing I did notice was how quickly my mouth dried out, and how quickly the water I
was using to clean the desert mud off of something dried up!

I was brought up summers in the Burlingame area, some 30-40 years ago. Rest of the year I was in Wisconsin. I remember at times it was
"chilly" at best, but not what I would consider cold by any means.
I agree - I grew up in Redwood City, not far from there. There was a
colder moist season, rain in March and April, and a warmer dry season.
We had some trees that lost their leaves and gave us a bit of a sense
of fall, but besides that it was pleasant year round.
Oh nice. I was born in Redwood City, at Kaiser hospital. Only time we really ever went back to that area was to go to Malibu Grand Prix for some mini golf, arcade action, and race some cars around the track, but looks like that has been closed down for at least 10 years now.

Well, small world. I grew up in Riverside and now live in Berkeley!
Had to scrape ice off my windshield this AM, been a while since it was
that cold here. And I realize there are people REALLY freezing right now,
so I'll count myself lucky :)
Are in the Berkeley for biz?
Yeah, my office is in Foster City (there a couple of days a week, most weeks), so I stay at my daughter's apartment in Berkeley while up there. Flying up again in a few hours. It's a sunny 65F day outside here in Riverside County at the moment while it's 56F and raining in Berkeley.
