implementing the openai API and feeding it the Mystic docs, whatsnew.txt and other sources and only respond with answers from that dataset.
Discord and Mystic to let users ask Mystic questions... I could throw it on GitHub is anyone wants to help; I'm just learning the api thru Python.

I think there's an ELIZA door somewhere.
There was a similar synchronet bot. It was intriguing, but was patently wrong some times - not something you want in a support board.
Don't get me wrong - I'm all for it, I think it's the direction support
is going. I'm looking forward to LLMs instead of the current generation
of support bots.

That's interesting that you think there's an ELIZA door somewhere. Can
you tell me what makes you think there's an ELIZA door somewhere?

Eliza was an older one, and Synchronet has 'The Guru' (I think). I haven't raelly looked into an AI chat bot, but I'm sure it could be
done. It seems ChatGPT must have a web API, because I've seen someone
set up a script or something that was using ChatGPT to reply to certain messages in another BBS message network.

I think someone had a bot that would post to some of the message areas
as "Chad Gipiti" or something like that (ChatGPT)... I'd thought about doing what you are suggesting with a chat bot of "Elle Elim" (LLM) as
the name, but would need a much smaller model so that it would be able
to use CPU execution and not take a ton of memory. I hadn't really dug into it though. You'd really need to either make requests to an
external service, or write your own terminal/console application to use
as the chat bot itself, outside synchronet/js.
It's definitely doable though. That said, it could be easy to overwhelm
a system's resources, or incure some significant costs.

Do you remember which one it was? Wouldl like to see that. I was thinking more of a local message base but chat would be cool too.

It was the one posting as "Chad Jipiti" on Dove-Net. I believe echicken (of Electronic Chicken BBS) created that.

I watched with anoyance the mess that chad made. Some users didn't know
it was a ai bot... The thing stood out like a sore thumb, and was easy
to spot. I'm not a sync sysop, but could easly see it's errors.
Thankfully it's no longer running around.

All the More reason to put it in it's own local message base and leave
it there.

Yeah, it gave a lot of wrong answers, which isn't good for people
looking for help and don't realize it's an AI bot.

Dude, are you new to all this stuff? should I create user for you or you just browse through the website and find the right telnet port yourself?
My fault. I double cheked and it was Xibalba (Enigma's flagship board). One of the doors is the actually chatGPT integration. It's just a
client, so you can chat like in the web. I believe though this could go far further.
maybe next time you type in your own hostname correctly
leet = l33t
Thanks for circling back, can't wait to check this out. Already have a ton of ideas on where this could be taken
The site didn't pull up as a web page when I tried it. I know what https is but when it didnt' work I assumed there was something I didn't know
Apparently it is, especially if I consider a groupie in a defense line trying to beat my smart-ass level to support ya :>
Yeah.. it's quite neat. Once you get used to scroll back to grab back
the whole history to local file, it may become your favorite chatgpt client.
lol you made a mistake typing the hostname and then were a jackass when the hostname clearly didn't work. talking about google or whatever is unrelated.
ironically now the correct hostname doesn't work right away because the SSL certificate is expired. nice.

What kind of rescource cost are we talking about 8 - 16 cores and 16G ram or much more?
Depending on the LLM, yes... Many/most LLMS run on GPU hardware, and the good ones need a card with 16gb or more ram on that GPU in order to run. Even a "low" memory, CPU based LLM will generally want at least a couple cores and a few gigs of ram, so if you're running multiple conversations it's entirely possible to hit those kinds of limits.

That makes sense so you need something like a 6950 with
loads of ram?
That explains why no one is doing this. Dedicate a peice of hardward
like that to a BBS. nope.
Alternatively you could just get credits at openai.com and go directly through chatGPT's API. If you limited it to GPT3 the costs would be fairly minimal, around $0.002 for 750 words or so or 20 cents for
75,000 words and you could just cap it at $10/month for safety.

So rent an AI. Hmmm interesting wonder how hard it would be to work with the API to get it to work inside a message base

That's the question for sure. I know that working with the API in other settings has been fairly easy and for anything I had trouble with I just asked ChatGPT for help and by the 3rd or 4th try had everything working
I think you should contact noskooler who runs Xibalba and Enigma development. I'm sure his integration into his board was indeed done by APIs.

echicken (sysop of Electronic Chicken BBS) seems to have written
something for Synchronet to read messages from Synchronet's messagebases and have ChatGPT generate a response, then post its response to Synchronet's messagebase. This is possible because Synchronet allows scripting with JavaScript and provides access to its messagebases via JavaScript.
