• MagiTerm v1.1.8

From apam@21:1/101 to All on Wed Jun 8 18:20:31 2022
Magiterm v1.1.8 is out now, it sets the term type in both ssh and telnet to "magiterm" instead of setting ssh term type to "ansi-bbs" and erroneously in telnet "ansi". This should allow things that detect term types to recognize magiterm, and behave accordingly.

It also now turns the cursor back on if a bbs turns it off and you disconnect without them turning it back on.

You can get win32 magiterm here : http://members.iinet.net.au/~apamment/

Linux builds for various distros are available via the opensuse build service.

Or you can build it yourself with the source from https://gitlab.com/magickabbs/MagiTerm

Some things that are not new, but you may not have known, MagiTerm supports both 256 colour and 24-bit colour. Has clickable links (ie if there's a link on the screen and it's on one line, click it and it should open your browser) Also saves passwords in the OS specific secure password storage.

That sounds cool. I've been using Netrunner since I came back to BBSing. Mainly because how cleanly it scales when used on hirez monitors. Does Magiterm support that?

It has a double size mode and a full screen mode. I don't know how it looks on hirez monitors though as the biggest i've got is full-hd.

You can't resize the screen to random sizes like syncterm and have it scale accordingly. I could add that i suppose, but the bitmapped fonts look a bit funky when the aspect ratio is off.

I did check and discovered some bugs with full screen mode (and mode switching) which I've now fixed and will be in v1.1.9 which will be out shortly.

Went to power on my windows machine to compile v1.1.9 this morning and it's dead jim. no output on the screen and the usb ports non responsive.

So, it probably wont be available for windows for a few hours, but the linux version of 1.1.9 is good to go (and the source is available of course.)

What impresses me about this is how fast it is. I assumed there was just some latency between me and my board, as it's hosted on a VPS in another city.

With Magiterm, pages draw instantly, compared to the term I am currently using. It's not latency at all.

Thanks, APAM - MagiTerm builds super easily and I love having another terminal solution in my toolbelt. I'll be sure to pass it around all my machines and appreciate yer w0rk as always.

I use Wayland [dunno if that makes differences] and I can't get it to full screen correctly - but I have issues with ALL the terminal softwares... I can get it fairly large and nice but in full screen only 1/4 of the screen is taken up - the rest is black. Any dummy ideas? Arch Linux, GNOME, Wayland.

Again, thanks - MagiTerm r0cks and ppl should have it installed!!

That *could* be the bug i fixed in v1.1.9 I've not tested it on wayland (unless I'm on wayland right now let me check... nope x11) but on x11 it was doing a similar thing.

I'll log out and log in on wayland and check

Nope still doing what you describe. As a bit of a work around, you can ALT-M and cycle through the modes and it will correct itself, but I'll see if i can fix it sometime today.

Should be fixed in git now, and should work the same on Wayland and X11. I've tested it with KDE (Wayland) and KDE (X11) I don't have gnome though, I assume it would work.

If you're using a package I can do an update to 1.1.10, if you're compiling yourself you should be good to go right now.

Lulz - I didn't mean that to be a report post - I swear I was just enjoying MagiTerm!! Great job - and if you need any Wayland things tested just sh0ut.

Thanks much... I'm getting a build error now - but don't worry much APAM; I'll keep following the git & I already love the term. A cmake warning popped up, but I got around it w/ -Wno-dev...

And.... B00M - fullscreen w0rks perfectly. St0ked that you jumped on that so quickly; I think MagiTerm will be in my toolbelt in the future. Great application!

    what distro are you using?

I know cmake spits out some warnings with my CMakeLists.txt (I was (still
am) a bit of a cmake noob when i made that). But it shouldn't make it fail.

Dangit - I almost posted the text... I'm on Arch and it said it was a developer warning. Running 'cmake -Wno-dev ..' let things go right thru, and I didn't have to type that on the build before your update yesterday.

After the -Wno-dev, the make and make install worked as normal.

I also got MagiTerm built on Haiku - which is great because I had no other solution for that OS - I just had to make sure the developer repositories were turned on and that the 2 packages you mentioned were installed - libsdl2_devel and libssh_devel.
