I still poll the gamenet hub for netmail if that ever happens but I haven't got a netmail for a long time and I'm not sure how that is all setup now.

The QWK hub that I have for gamenet has not answered a call in months so
maybe that is why you are not seeing much traffic. :)

That's a real bummer. I had high hopes for gamenet.

One of the QWK nodes netmailed me a few months back and asked for a node number. Much to my surprise I was able to log into the server and I arranged that for him. I also saw while I was there the CPU was pegged at 100%. There were several QWK nodes logged in for QWK packets but there was no CPU available for them. I don't know what was causing the high CPU usage but it was not Synchronet.

A net admin needs to have eyes on things like that, and the operation of the hub generally to keep things going smoothly.

I just tried to log in and have a look but for reasons unknown to me I can't do that.

Gamenet is Marisa's net and it's up to her to do that. I would gladly help her with that.. if I could. I'm sure she could do that herself anyway.

So I emailed Marisa and offered to help with gamenet - I've seen a few requests for gamenet where folks have shown an interest to join, but a frustration of no response.

She replied to me that she is not "the" FTN admin she only does QWK.

So I've followed up to ask who is the FTN admin - I'm guessing if she answers she'd say you Al?

Anyway, I'm happy to throw gamenet on my Hub if there is interest. It ticks away nicely with little effort from me, and I'm on it daily to know if things arent working well (if a user hasnt got to me first)...

You'll have to have a conversation with Marisa and work out those details. Andrew was also helping. He was producing and hatching the nodelist. If you are lucky he is still doing that. Move forward with what you have there.

She replied to me that she is not "the" FTN admin she only does QWK.

She is connected by QWK. It is her net, it runs on her server.

So I've followed up to ask who is the FTN admin - I'm guessing if she answers she'd say you Al?

She might. Ultimately it is hers and only she has access to the hub to make changes or check things are running as expected.

Anyway, I'm happy to throw gamenet on my Hub if there is interest. It ticks away nicely with little effort from me, and I'm on it daily to know if things arent working well (if a user hasnt got to me first)...

Aside from the actual gamenet hub at gamenet.synchronetbbs.org, you were also starting a hub the last time I was able to log in and look at things. If that is the case then you can add nodes to your hub and they can link there with you?

That depends on your link with the hub working as expected. If that is all up and running for you, then I can direct applications I receive from time to time your way.

Happy for you to throw applications my way and I can set them up here. Any existing user who is having trouble the FTN setup can link here too if they want.

By the looks of it, there has been very little activity in the last year, so folks may have given up on it? (Or I'm not getting messages - although I did see something from Feb/Mar.) In any case, happy to help get it running again if there is interest.

That is the most recent nodelist. It's need updating.. If you can get Andrew to update the nodelist with any nodes that come your way.

I can hatch out updated nodelists - the question is if me hatching out something from my node will be distributed for those who feed off of Marissa's. If you cant get in to get those details, it might be easier to restart the FTN setup?

I'll post a message to see if it is worthwhile - kinda pointless if nobody is interested in the network.

I can hatch out updated nodelists

I would check with Andrew first. His nodelist hatches came into the hub and did what we wanted them to do. JFYI, tickit is setup and tossing files to linked nodes. If you change that things could go sideways.

Andrew 32:1/11, was always quick to respond to my requests for nodelist changes. I always considered him to be the ZC and he did a good job.

I don't know where Andrew is on this today since I haven't been able to add nodes so I haven't talked to him but he is easy to talk to.

    - the question is if me hatching out something from my node will be distributed for those who feed off of Marissa's. If you cant get in to get those details, it might be easier to restart the FTN setup?

Take it a step at a time. It's quite possible for you to add nodes to your net. You could also run a QWK hub with your Synchronet BBS.

I think it would be best if you talk with Marisa about that and keep in sync with the hub she is running or we'll end up with two different gamenets. It's been a while but when I was able to look at the hub there was a good number of QWK and FTN nodes linked there and it would be good if you could keep growing that.

Would it be a fair assumption by me that you no longer want to do it? IE: I'm happy to say to Marissa that I can manage the FTN setup because you no longer have access no have an interest to keep doing it.

But if you want to keep doing it - well that's good to - and I'll let you connect with her to re-setup your access.

I never did actually do it. It was Marisa's idea and what she wanted to do.

I may have looked like the face of gamenet in the early days but that was never the situation. I answered a few questions Marisa had and helped her with the initial setup.
