• fsxNet thru Synchronet. QWK?

From mastermind@21:1/101 to All on Tue May 5 13:59:47 2020
I was just starting to setup my sync build with fsx and noticed the
fsxqwk.zip file inside the standard fsxinfo.zip file.

Just a quickee - Are there benefits or drawbacks from using QWK? With
synchro, it seems super easy to use QWK and the software kinda likes it - but
I know with fsxNet & Mystic I did it the normal way.

Which way should I setup fsxNet with a synchro BBS?

You can do it either way with Synchronet and I suppose Mystic too.

With QWK you get all the new messages whenever you poll the hub. With FTN you get messages from the hub (probably) whenever new messages get there. Also you can connect the file areas with an FTN link.

Which way should I setup fsxNet with a synchro BBS?

I'd probably use FTN so I can link to the file areas also but either way will work.

    Ttyl :-),

There are two things that come to mind:

    * There are no file TIC with QWK - so you'll miss out on any hatched files.

    * Netmail - I dont believe you can netmail between QWK and FTN nodes (in both directions at least).

One thing that I look at is what the majority of nodes use, because this can have an implication for netmail. You can netmail FTN nodes if FTN connected, and you can netmail (Synchronet at least) QWK nodes, if you're QWK connected, but there's no 2 way gating of netmail, only echomail.

Synchronet is equally capable of using FTN or QWK.

I'm using FTN to access FSX here.

One thing -- you wouldn't get files through files echos that Avon sends out.

I recently set up Synchronet with fsxNet (using a point) and it was pretty painless, and actually intuitive once you get your head around the multiple config files :)

Digital Man has a video on youtube where he walks through a complete
Fidonet style setup. I think it's for Windows, but pretty much the same if you are on another OS.

    Cheers,

Thanks... I think I'll do FTN, because its how my node is already setup-
coming from mystic and all- and, it'll mean I have one of each type
running... in the future, I'll have experience with both for any new NETs I wanna run. Appreciate it.
