Anyone got a line on how to get a reg code for this game? Is there one somewhere floating around since the author passed away? I found 3.6 on
TinyBBS reg'd but it's not as good.

    Cheers,

I will look and see what version I have running when I get home. I am
pretty sure it is a version that was distributed with the key but it
    might be < 4.17.

Nope, sadly not possible. I think there are 4.15 versions floating around.

If this is no longer possible and no one has codes, you can always crack/patch it. Generally not that hard at all for older software.

Yes, this is what I have been working on. Unfortunately, they have a debug checker that throws me in a loop of despair and kicks me out when I
step/trace through it. It's packed and encrypted in the EXE. Not that I can't figure it out, but man it's not easy when you haven't done it for 20+ years. Hardest thing is finding the right tools. IDA works when they're not
    encrypted.

I have a dev environment with Turbo Debugger and also Dosbox Debugger. One thing I'm looking for desperately is Gametools (g3x.exe), if anyone has a
    line on that.

Once I get passed these new old problems, I'm just going to release all the keygens on my board.

    Cheers,

I love that game, but was unable to myself as well.
The game is encrypted/compiled and the source code is unavailable.
Mine will throw a code every so often (VDi WIN7 32-bit) - but I still love it.

I setup RA because it was available but Quick was my BBS of the era. So I'd really like to use it. However no cracks, no keys, nothing to be found... So

go to the door directory .. (in DOS prompt for me) and run pitedit.exe
    (hit Enter twice for Default)
in the new window you will see a menu on the left.
    PIT GAME CONFIGURATION EDIT.
    Older Versions have:
    - Load Game Config
    - Game Config
    - Save Game Config as
    - General Game Setup
    - Hand Weapon ....

    etc..

v4.17 has all the above, but:
    in between the
    - General Game Setup
    and
    - Hand Weapon
    there is
    - Game Start-Up Settings

it allows you to give players default or modified items when they start playing. Like, instead of 200gp they can get 500gp. Or, instead of bare
hands, you can give them a dagger, etc.

Well looks like I got lucky! I was poking around in IDA mapping out the calls and I ended up noticing that there was another way. :) I noticed I could put the plain key in the cfg file and then run menuedit which exits immediately after validating a bad key. So I wrote up a little app in C and had it simply iterate through the possible values (It's only a 4 byte key and it can only
be a value of 1000000000 and 1999999999) and sent it brute forcing away in dosbox on turbo. I check periodically to see if it actually gets into
menuedit and record the key value being watched in a hexeditor. I've got
about 10 keys now of varying types (Gold, Bronze, Beta, etc) now. :D

I might continue down my path of reversing the generation algorithm and maybe figure out how to write a proper keygen for it. I know I'm pretty close to
the general gist of the code itself. Then perhaps I can give The Pit a shot since I too, absolutely love the game. I even remember giving that RIP client
a shot back in the day but ultimately prefer the ANSI honestly.

So I guess if we had an unregistered 4.15 we'd be able to compare it to my registered 4.15?

I can't find unregged 4.15 sadly. I'd like to diff the components and see precisely what's different.

I ran `strings` against the various files and grep'd for anything resembling registration info, which prints during door launch...nothing jumped out at me :(

I guess we need to find someone with a registered 4.17 and just have them
share with the community. I pretty much just have a few doors for historical reasons only.

This is an old thread, but I'm currently looking for a REGISTERED copy of The Pit 4.17 -- or 4.15 for that matter! Author passed away a while ago, and it doesn't seem like this game has ever been cracked?

If you've got one, mind sending to to robbiew@gmail.com? Or point me to a BBS that has it in the Files section?

    Cheers,

Hey buddy, do you have ALL the Dink Door Reg packs and other [normal, available] Door Game REG crack collections? I have all of them on 2o, and can zip em up for this project... is that something I should drop in /sysops?
