  • NET2BBS virus scan false positive?

    Hello fellow operators,

    My board has been offline for a week unbeknownst to me, and when I went to investigate, NET2BBS.exe had been quarantined by Defender.

    (For the uninitiated, NETFOSS+NET2BBS is a Telnet->Fossil toolchain to get DOS16 BBSes and Doors working on Win32)

    I'm running my board on Windows 10 x86 IoT Enterprise LTSC, version 21H2. AFAIK this still receives security updates, so it's very possible that a virus signature update for Defender is the root cause.

    This hasn't been a problem until now, so I wanna know if it's come up for anyone else?

    Set your \NETFOSS directory to NOT be scanned. Only way around it.

    ... I'm not Canadian although I tend to like their bacon.

    Did it to me like 20 years ago ... so ya, I get it. :)

    It may also flag NFU.EXE, and the other executables. I'm working on a new project on a new VM and it flagged them all. Just tell defender to skip them

    That's normal. Some older versions don't flag, but most of them do. It
    needs to be excluded. That's the first thing I do when I install a new A/V software...
