• Dynamic IP Redirection Service

From LEE GREEN@1:102/401 to ALL on Mon Aug 21 07:33:36 2023
I just found out that dynip.com is stopping the service after 25 years.

Can anyone reccomend a RELIABLE dynamic IP redirection service I can use to replace dynip.com ?

    TIA

I've been using nsupdate.info (https://www.nsupdate.info/) for many years now.

Currently I'm using Inadyn (https://github.com/troglobit/inadyn) as a client for it.

    Best regards

I'm currently using cloudflare to update a CNAME record which works really well, if you have existing domains in cloudflare this is a great approach.

If you just need a third-level domain, I have had success with afraid.org

I've been using noip.com for YEARS, with zero problems. You can use
up to three hostnames, and all free. They have a small client which
runs locally and checks/updates IP at a frequency you desire/configure.

I use dyndns.com to my full satisfaction ... it's payware but worth it.

if you already have a VPS, you might be able to use something like this example for DigitalOcean:

    https://github.com/anaganisk/digitalocean-dynamic-dns-ip

if you have your own domain, you might as well make up a random use for a 5 or 6 dollar VPS if you don't already have one.. rather than pay $20 or whatever
someplace like noip is charging. even the $1.99/mo (for not having to do some sort of hostname confirmation rigmarole) seems like a poor value.

I use both dns.he.net (supports IPv6) and 1984.hosting (supports DNSSEC), both are free but require that you use your own domain name.

I use Hurricane Electric's dns.he.net. It supports IPv6, and is free of charge for customers of HE's IPv6 certification and/or tunnelbroker services.

I just want to add ... after years of free redirection-service I decided to shell-out a couple of bucks. "for free" has its setbacks ...

I run my own DNS server and openwrt on my router updates my DNS. Never fails...except I don't run my BBS from home :)

I use namecheap for my DNS registration and in the DNS host configuration I can set up Dynamic IP addresses. I believe they have a service you can run locally to keep it updated.

Just signed up for this, this week for the Listserver. It seems to work quite well for my needs.
