Just a quick question here, but I noticed Gert released KMyMoney into the filegate. Is this not an application that's released with the K Desktop Environment by default?

Just asking, and I guess making sure we aren't breaking any kind of GPL violations or anything by repackaging and redistrobuting this kind of stuff, is all.

I guess skimming over GPLv2 you can redistrobute it, so I dunno. What's the usual take on this matter? I might as well ask so I don't have to ask again. :)

    Hi Nick,

Just a quick question here, but I noticed Gert released KMyMoney into the filegate. Is this not an application that's released with the K Desktop Environment by default?

It wasn't included in the KDE that I run here, it may have been included in other linux distributions or later linux distributions. I've been searching for
that information since I saw your message.

FDN coordinators on the FileGate should know that we are not going to release files already included in a linux distribution, like VI, bash, KDE, thunderbird,KWALLET, KONSOLE, TERMINAL etc. etc.

Just asking, and I guess making sure we aren't breaking any kind of GPL

Don't skim over licensing ever. Read the entire licence document, it's very very clear as to what is covered by GPLV2, and how files may be (re)distributed, changed, etc.

    Take care,
    Janis

Another point is that it is compiled against a 'specific' version of kde.

That means for many users it will NOT work, also it is standard software that is available through the normal distribution channel for all of the distro's.

Can someone tell this OP to STOP it sending them !!!!!

I was searching as well. It looks like it does not currently come with KDE as a dependency or anything like that, but it is, in fact, freely available on sourceforge as well as available through most, if not all, package managers. I run a Gentoo server as well as an Archlinux VM here, and it's easily available on both via their package managers.

I don't know where the fine line is in regards to what's put on the filegate, which is why I asked.

I would have to say that this would fall under that category, then.. just from what I can pull up via both 'emerge -pv kmymoney' as well as 'pacman -S kmymoney'.

Don't skim over licensing ever. Read the entire licence document, it's very very clear as to what is covered by GPLV2, and how files may be (re)distributed, changed, etc.

I only skimmed for the detail that answered my original question. I've read that document multiple times, but I'm never going to say that I remember it word for word. Thanks for your quick response.

Of course, I understand. The repositories of various distributions include so many packages.

I don't know where the fine line is in regards to what's put on the filegate, which is why I asked.

Believe me, we talk about this kind of thing in the IFDC echo amongst ourselves. We try to keep only files that aren't available on various package managers for various distributions in FDNS on the FileGate. Some packages start out not on repositories, then after we start spreading them around, they are picked up (really, this happens <g>). It makes sense when you think about it.

Agree there. I think it's unfortunate that Gert wasted so much bandwidth with this set of files. I've just commented to him about another HUGE file he wanted to release, Digikam... (I won't allow it, sorry Gert.)

We are NOT a friggin' linux repository, afterall.

No problem, I have to revisit the document often enough <g>.

I lost access to that echo when we had our little tiff, and I don't think Ross offers it, unless it requires another access level that I don't have.

I believe that happens as well. Just a few days ago I had to request a bug ticket be reopened for dosemu (dos emulator) on Archlinux. Luckily I reported all my findings and they fixed it, releasing another version that worked. It's just amazing that the ticket had been closed without being fixed -- quite some time ago. It's all about being a part of the linux community. :)

We are NOT a friggin' linux repository, afterall.

Hah. We almost could be a small one, with all the people still involved. But yeah, I see what you mean.

Aside from all this, I just recently noticed that the NODELIST file echo isn't working from here. I checked Ross's file reports on Sept. 6th for a new nodelist, and it looks like he didn't get it either. So I took a look in my nodelist directory and it seems the last nodelist for 2013 was dated Jan. 17th. I'm pretty sure without looking that I'm hooked up to that echo via Ross's system, but haven't received a new nodelist in quite some time.

If you could help take a look into that, I'd appreciate it!

Right, that's because it's for fixing problems amonst FDN Coordinators and HUBs. This echo though, is for general discussions regarding the filegate.

That is surprising.. I don't think I've heard of a bug issue being closed before it was fixed before, but what do I know <g>. I'm glad you persisted there.

We are NOT a friggin' linux repository, afterall.

Hah. We almost could be a small one, with all the people still involved. But yeah, I see what you mean.

Well, there's still plenty of stuff out there that isn't on the repositories. As far as other OS' go, like windows and the Mac, there are tons sent to me everyday essentially from the ASP (Association of Shareware Professionals) and others. I had to read the description of one of the win_games files to Ron today because it was so damn funny.. lazy-ass: "Launch your Lazy Ass from chair
to chair to grab all the snacks. Make your way back to grub out in front of the
TV and to food. Avoid the spikes".. ouch Lol.. too dumb to not hatch hahaha

Aside from all this, I just recently noticed that the NODELIST file echo isn't
working from here. I checked Ross's file reports on Sept. 6th for a new nodelist, and it looks like he didn't get it either.

Hmm.. he gets a new nodelist file every Thursday night at midnight in the NODELIST file echo:

    + 06 Sep 08:21:02 [5939] sent: /home/bbbs/binkd/rossout/nodelist.z49 (101357, 101357.00 CPS, 1:123/500@fidonet)

Plus every day he gets a new nodelist in the DAILYLIST file echo. This was today's:
    + 10 Sep 12:00:26 [5277] sent: /home/bbbs/binkd/rossout/nodelist.z53 (101359, 101359.00 CPS, 1:123/500@fidonet)

This is the header on today's dailylist:

    ;A FidoNet Nodelist for Tuesday, September 10, 2013 -- Day number 253 : 54895

And this is the header on Friday's nodelist.z49:

    ;A FidoNet Nodelist for Friday, September 6, 2013 -- Day number 249 : 51828

So I took a look in my
nodelist directory and it seems the last nodelist for 2013 was dated Jan. 17th
I'm pretty sure without looking that I'm hooked up to that echo via Ross's system, but haven't received a new nodelist in quite some time.

nodelist.z18 was released from here, on Jan. 17th.. but that's quite old. Friday's nodelist was nodelist.z49 which contained NODELIST.249.

I'd relink to the nodelist echo on Ross's system, or link up to the Dailylist file echo over there. What you're reporting makes no sense to me, wish I had more answers for you.

    Take care,
    Janis

I thought I had became a hub at some point, but maybe not. *shrug*

That is surprising.. I don't think I've heard of a bug issue being closed before it was fixed before, but what do I know <g>. I'm glad you persisted there.

Because at the time it had seemed to work fine for the developer. But the developer was using a 64bit install of Archlinux, where it worked fine. It was the 32bit (i686) version of Arch that the package was broken. They must not have been trying the 32bit version. I pointed that out and it was quickly fixed.

Shareware Professionals) and others. I saw that. :)

That's proof enough for me. I'll recheck my link, and if not, I'll have to ask Ross about it.

I'd relink to the nodelist echo on Ross's system, or link up to the Dailylist file echo over there. What you're reporting makes no sense to me, wish I had more answers for you.

Makes no sense to me either. Hopefully it's just a broken link that's easily fixable.

Aside from all this, I just recently noticed that the NODELIST file echo isn't working from here.

I've been investigating a possibly similar issue with the NODEDIFF
file echo; his system showed mine as being connected but it didn't look like I was getting anything in it. Disconnected/reconnected; I'll see
this week if it made any difference...

Maybe it's just an issue with Ross's system. He's receiving both file areas from Janis, but doesn't seem to be sending them off to downlinks. I've done
the same as you, by disconnecting/reconnecting to the NODELIST echo. If it doesn't work this week we can bring it to Ross's attention. Thanks for a confirmation of some sort, Jame. :)

users that install precompiled problems ask for learning more :)

if precompiled is compiled dynamicly then it depends on other things installed dynamicly, in other words if one like to get windows 8.1 on linux then remember
to get virtualbox installed first :)
