FidoGazette. Do we know that for sure, yet?

I have seen traffic indicating others are taking over some of her
other "duties" such as echomail hubbing and FDN.

Having fought to end the Zone Warz, which were heavily sustained by the NAB and the Star-system I take great exception at your words. I was at the core of finally laying the zone-warz to rest. OK?

And you were promoted, or have promoted yourself, to the team that was responsible for the most disgusting action ever taken by people in Fidonet: the FidoNews debacle ... copyright by the Star system ... which started the end of the Star-system,

Where have I said something wrong? Sean Dennis has been sucking-up to Nick in the past and already advertized himself as the next #2 in command for Zone-1, something Nick was unaware of and we nipped that in the butt.

For your record, Nick and I are good friends up to a level that even a lot of good friends never are. Nick has free access to my system and in the past could have accessed passwords, links, whatever but we have a trust and confidence probably second to none in the whole history of Fidonet since Thom Jennings farted and had an idea. We consult eachother about Fidonet, about family relations and we are more family to eachother than families sometimes are.

So keep to yourself and don't talk about stuff you don't know about ... Zone Warz ... you've never been subjected to them the way that I was ... you never have been bothered by a Troika who luckily are gone now for a variety of sometimes unfortunate reasons.

    Hello Mr. Dossche,

I would like to know what can I do in order to become a FidoNet point (and be able to receive FidoNet mail + access to the FidoNet groups).
As far I as know, there are no more nodes on NET 530 (Romania), so that's why I contacted you, as instructed by Mr. Kracht.

Back in the days (1997) I used to be a point on Catalin Ionescu's BBS: 2:530/301.10 (if I remember correctly) and even had access to the Fido to Internet gateway of those days (since we had an ISP who provided only UUCP-based e-mail): andrei.rachita@contact.pcnet.ro.

For the moment I'm not thinking about setting up a BBS, but would like to have access to the wealth of information I used to have with FidoNet topics.

Could you please provide me more info about how to setup ARGUS, RADIUS or BINKD for getting FidoNet e-mail ? (do I need to dial-in a BBS or is it doable via TCP/IP).

    Looking forward for your e-mail.

    Best regards,
    Andrei Rachita

    Hello Andrei!

Thank you for sending an application to join Fidonet!

Contact the Zone 2 Coordinator, Ward Dossche at wd@skynet.be.? He will be able to find a good place for your node in the nodelist.

I can answer questions you may have about mailers and echomail tossers though :)

Most of us are using the binkp protocol to connect with our mailers.
If you are running Windows, ARGUS, RADIUS, and BINKD mailers support binkp.
If you are running a linux system, you can use the linux version of BINKD.

Are you going to set up a bbs?

    Take care,
    Janis

I checked my records and they indicate I was absnt from June 25th 2013 through August 26th of that year surviving on an island somewhere in the Rocky Mountains.

At the end of such summers (from 2009 to 2016) I always deleted all the incoming mail on file as it was too much to deal with. People know that in such a case they need to resend if it's important to them.

You didn't? Not my circus, not my monkey.

Would you not agree that not receiving an answer to a single email does not exactly cover these statements?

    * I know you're not the.most friendly FidoNet guy from my own experience
when I wanted to rejoin Fidonet,

    * when I first requested access you weren't the one that helped.

If you were helped by Janis in 2013, as you claim, how come you were not listed until you approached me in 2017 ?

I'm now invoking the 18th Law of Dossche on on-line communications.

    Take care

    Hi Sean,

Ward has been spreading his filth in Fidonet for 20+ years for now.

As a node 32 years, at least one year extra as a point.

You may want to get your facts straight ...

Remember that he is not only the Zone 2 Coordinator but the International Coordinator as well ...

Correct ... thrice elected as a ZC and twice as an IC.

And you, sir, were not elected at all ... you merely usurped the moderator position here, you grabbed it just like you grabbed a pile of other echoes. You were not elected, you were not appointed by an outgoing moderator ... for all I care Bjorn Felten is the moderator here...

Do something to promote the fidonet instead of lying on the coach with a well balanced keyboard writing about how great you are and what you all achieve ...

You don't even reside in a net, you need a region-independant number. Wazzup? Nobody wants you?

Enjoy the remainder of this day, tomorrow is anotherone.

Ward, Michiel, and others from Zone 2 miss the zone wars of the late 90s and also are xenophobic, hating anyone who doesn't think like them, especially Americans. They're people of a little mind.

But something you won't hear Ward admit is that he has travlled to the US several times over the years to attend Boy Scout Jamborees from the Netherlands and that he has begrudingly admitted to liking the US. Ask him in netmail. See what his response is.

A lot of Ward's buddies and sycophants have left for the larger waters of the Internet to troll or in some cases simply died of how bitter they were right in their computer chair. Ward is alone in Fidonet being the head FidoTroll(R). The best thing to do is treat him like a pimple: leave it alone and it will go away eventually...or put him in a twit filter and go on with life.

Ward is doing his best to get a rise out of me and everyone else in here. He really is a bored old man with nothing better to do.

him in netmail. See what his response is.

Again ... please get your facts straight ...

1/ I'm from Belgium, not the Netherlands.

Belgium is a country in Europe, not a town in Nebraska.

Belgium is about Belgian waffles (which absolutely is 'not' a breakfast
food here), good chocolate, Brussels sprout, the Biskoff cookies they're
offering on Delta and United Airlines (here they're called Lotus, an
original Belgian product) and an incredible beer-culture. I have 2 cases
of 24 bottles 33cl 12 degrees tripel Trappist ale sitting here from the
WestVleteren Abbey which was named best beer in the world by the NY Times
    several times

    https://www.trappistwestvleteren.be/en/age-gate?_target_path=/en

The treaty of Ghent was also negotiated in Belgium and it ended the
war of 1812 between the UK and the USA. The site of the negotiations has
been preserved and can be visited.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Ghent

Free lesson about the history of the USA. No need to thank me.

The Netherlands is a country north of us. They occupied us from 1815
onwards after the Battle of Waterloo (which is also in Belgium) but driven
north after the Belgian revolution of 1830. Some bloody fighting took
place, it continues in the rivalry when both our national football teams
clash ... 'football' as in a round spherical object which a ball usually
is, not a leather clad egg which is thrown around by hand, a kind of
rugby. The purpose of football is to beat the other team, while the
purpose of American football is to kill the adversary, be very brutal
    about it.

Belgium gained its independance in 1830 and fashioned a constitution
originally based on the values of the US constitution. The USA were also
the first big nation to recognize us which probably prompted the British,
the French and the Prussians to not re-capture us.

The Netherlands are very famous for tulips, you should see the fields in
full bloom, it's an orgasm of colour. Cheeses ... Gouda cheese, delicious,
Jenever, KLM Royal Dutch ... probably the best airline in the world,
speed-skating, fermented herring ... They also have the hottest looking
queen in Europe. Anne Frank, Van Gogh, Rembrandt ... the Netherlands.

2/ I have never been to a Boy Scout Jamboree, I have no clue where ever you
got that misguided idea. Not in Europe, not in the USA ... in fact I only
joined a scouting organisation in 2009 ... I think. Aged 58 at the time.

3/ "Several times over the years" ... how about 120 times give or take a few,
I lost count. As a matter of fact, I just returned a few days ago Jan 8th
after celebrating NY eve with friends and my granddaughter in Montana.

I did serve on 17 BSA summer camps as an international staffer specialized
in aquatics. I'm certified by the US Coast Guard, the State of Montana and
triple certified by the American Red Cross in aquatics. I'm also CPR
certified though I need to renew this. I teach waterskiing, rowing, kayak,
canoe, sailing (I have my own 31 footer) and being "international" I deal
with several requirements of the "Citizenship in the world" merit badge
which is required for Eagle scout. I'm not being paid for that and the
trips required for winterizing as well as preparing in spring I also pay
out of pocket ... including food and other stuff for the crew.

Other than for scouting events I also traveled to the USA several times
on company business, I lectured at Research Triangle Park in North
Carolina on invitation by the EPA and was involved in several projects by
the UN and UNEP (United Nations Environment Program), among others the
organisation of the 2002 Summit of Heads of State in South Africa on
request by the Secretary-General of the UN (+ Kofi Annan) and which was
henceforth known as the 'World Summit on Sustainable Development' under
the inspiring guidance of Sir Crispin Tickell ...

    https://www.un.org/en/conferences/environment/johannesburg2002

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crispin_Tickell

4/ I have liked the USA from day-1, actually, even before that and given the
opportunity I would move there ... at least to Montana that is. Not to one
of those states where they only have 4 family names and everybody is a
cousin or a niece from everybody else.

So why am I not living there? I have a granddaughter aged-12 and a
grandson soon aged-3 ... I can't be separated from them ... so the next
best thing is to take that granddaughter with me on trips, and later the
    grandson when he's old enough.

In 2017 we were in Wyoming to view the great north american solar eclipse
and in 2024 we'll be in Texas to view it.

Just for fun at some time the University of Washington in Pullman WA
invited me to take the citizenship test....just for fun. Nailed it all the
way, several US associates didn't manage.

I like my steak medium-rare, drive a 6-cylinger 3 liter Mercedes Viano (diesel/ automatic), have known my wife for 43 years, married 27, 4 kids, 2 grandkids. Also I sold my US-based Ford F150 pick-up.

So, having said all that to correct you, I suggest when you're done scratching your testicles and smelling your fingers, you make a hard-copy of this message and/or store it somewhere where you can retrieve it for proper reference.

I can also tell you about my work for the Greenpeace organisation, participation in TV programmes about environment, speeching at the interministerial conferences on the Northsea, the Oslo convention, The Paris Convention (now called OSPARCOM), London Dumping convention plus some more stuff.

You'll need to ask and I need the time.

    That is correct.

There were a number of other kinda networks with proprietary software that didn't make it.

North America was more fertile soil for something like that to catch root and prosper, the way I remember it it was like a boom ... an explosion as soon as the hardware became available. People were queuing in stores to get a computer, a modem and get going ... also schools ... also a base on Antarctica.

Very odd, it never took of in the french speaking world. There were some competing softwares from French manufacturers but France as a whole was geared towards its official "Minitel" system which was going to become available for free to the public at large ... After several years Minitel declined, the francophone softwares had not been further developed and "Using an Americam/Canadian product?" .... 'Mon dieu ... non svp'.

OK ... I'll hush up and see how successful a publication the Fidogazette is not going to be. Janis tried but other than crossposting some messages from echoes and re-hashing old material, not that much really happened.

The real problem is 'lack of contributors', 'lack of exciting things' ... the same issues which confronts Fidonews. It's "the people's publication", but if the people does not contribute then it just does not happen.

At the moment I see no indicator for change. But you know what, prove me wrong. I do not expect the new 'self appointed' ownership is going to change a whole lot.

Why should this echo and the Gazette be left to rest in peace when
    Janis left?

Because it is a product of the zone wars. For all intents and purposes the Gazette was just a relic of this unfortuntate period. No one (exept maybe a few) want the zone wars to return. I hate saying this because I do not like to speak ill of those no longer in a postion to defend themselves, but Janis played a significant role in the zone wars. Letting this echo and the Gazette rest in peace after she left should have been a step in coming to closure.

What we see however is just the opposite. The self appointed moderator shows clear bias against Z2 participants in this echo. Has he moderated you in public for off-topic postings yet? No, in fact ALL of his off-topic warnings were against Z2 members.

What is happening now, reminds us of the zone wars in which the Gazette was used as a weapon. Instead of digging up and refurbishing this weapon, we should let it rest.

issue under discussion here in this thread. It's related, sort of, but
not the focus of my question above.

Perhaps they'll be revived, now that it's under "new ownership". Why would you not want that to happen? What have you got to lose? Nobody
is asking you to do anything. Perhaps you should hush up and let others do things that are in the best interests of FidoNet.

OK ... I'll hush up and see how successful a publication the
Fidogazette is not going to be. Janis tried but other than
crossposting some messages from echoes and re-hashing old
material, not that much really happened.

Okay. Perhaps it's lack of success was (at least partially) due to
Janis. I guess we'll see. My point was to ask you to at least give it
a chance to get off the ground without belaboring things with a person
that you clearly have a negative history with. That doesn't help.

The real problem is 'lack of contributors', 'lack of exciting
things' ... the same issues which confronts Fidonews. It's "the
people's publication", but if the people does not contribute then
    it just does not happen.

No argument with that. I'll make a "new year's resolution" to see if I
can contribute, and to encourage others to as well.

At the moment I see no indicator for change. But you know what,
prove me wrong. I do not expect the new 'self appointed'
ownership is going to change a whole lot.

Fair enough. A chance to try is not asking too much.

For such a long-standing and (supposed) proponent of FidoNet, you sure
do seem to hate it. Perhaps that's just your personal bias and grudges showing through?

Do us all a favor and go be a ZC, leaving the administration of an echo and a publication to those who actually do try to help FidoNet be better.

'The administration of an echo' ... hmmm ... how difficult must
it be? I run a number of international echoes ... mever must I
act, even hardly ever do I publish any rules.

It's not usually difficult, no.... but sometimes the participants can
make the moderator's job harder by just carrying on and on for no good
reason. Let's give it a chance.

But as said before ... prove me wrong.

I hope "we" can do that. Take care.

DS' claim that Janis appointed him as successor.

Janis made no publicly appointed successor that I saw.

Why should this echo and the Gazette be left to rest in peace when
    Janis left?

Because it is a product of the zone wars. For all intents and purposes the Gazette was just a relic of this unfortuntate period. No one (exept maybe a few) want the zone wars to return.

I have never thought of the gazette being anything more than an alternative fidonet newsletter.

If you don't want zone wars then don't participate in them.

I hate saying this because I do not like to speak ill of those no longer in
a postion to defend themselves, but Janis played a significant role in the zone wars. Letting this echo and the Gazette rest in peace after she left should have been a step in coming to closure.

Janis was always very nice to me. We didn't speak often but when we did we always had easy conversations and she was always willing to help when she could.

That may be different to your experience but that is what I know of her.

What we see however is just the opposite. The self appointed moderator shows clear bias against Z2 participants in this echo. Has he moderated you in public for off-topic postings yet? No, in fact ALL of his off-topic warnings were against Z2 members.

I have only posted a few messages and they were mostly on topic.. :)

What is happening now, reminds us of the zone wars in which the Gazette was used as a weapon. Instead of digging up and refurbishing this weapon, we should let it rest.

Let it rest if that is what you want to do.

Personally, I have no problem if Sean continues the gazette if that is what he wants to do.

DS' claim that Janis appointed him as successor.

Janis made no publicly appointed successor that I saw.

    Correct.

It was only after I suggested Jan.6th, that is 7 days after Janis disconnected "everything" (I think she only kept a cellphone), to nuke the echo that the circus started.

    Sean Dennis was never appointed.

Just like T.J.Barlow collecting nodenumbers and hats, Sean collects moderator titles.

I have never thought of the gazette being anything more than an
    alternative fidonet newsletter.

It was started because people not belonging to Z2, Z3, Z4, Z5 nor Z6 disliked Bjorn Felten...

Janis was always very nice to me. We didn't speak often but when we did
we always had easy conversations and she was always willing to help when she could.

She was also the main instigator of the Fidonews debacle aided by Ross Cassel and Bob Seaborn. Surprisingly this ended when the one whose name we cannot mention broke ranks ... et voila ... the Fidogazette.

Janis could indeed be helpful. I met her in person in June 2003 when I went to a deceased friend's daughter's wedding in Connecticut ... that was 2 days after the one whose name we're not allowed to mention tried to turn me in for narcotics transport at JFK-airport. Amazingly she skipped the "How was the flight?" portion and within 30 seconds was involved in ex-communications, dropping people from the nodelist, policy complaints ... that stuff while I was interested to know how she was doing as a person.

Janis also was the one who claimed to have secret conversations with the then ZC6 Bin Li. If you called him by modem there was always a Chinese kind of voice picking-up the modem line and, I guess, yelling Chinese insults. When you tried the voice-line he always said "No Inglies, No Inglies" but Janis came around with perfectly structured statements supposedly by him in the purest Oxford English.

She was very very political ...

Have you ever met her in person?

Personally, I have no problem if Sean continues the gazette if that is
    what he wants to do.

Sean historically is known for not finishing what he starts. He wanted to be in the FTSC, the question was raised, he claimed "I have changed" and nothing happened ... no change <period>.

So what's going to happen is he is going to produce 2-3 Fidogazette issues with crossposts and rehash stuff and then drop it. He hasn't got the stuff to perpetuate it. That's all.

Onward to my next Covid PCR test.

How do you imagine that the circus started?

Around the time Janis left Sean announced that he was going to pick up the gazette, and that is what he is doing.

If for whatever reason you want to nuke the area, go ahead and do that. No one is compelled to have any areas they don't want.

The fidonews debacle and the fido gazette happened at different times altogether. There is no connection.

She was very very political ...

You and Janis had ZC to ZC discussions. Those could get political?

Have you ever met her in person?

No, Janis and I were linked nodes. We discussed things of interest to linked nodes. Our discussions never became political.

there's no general rule anywhere that says transferring FDNs or echotags to someone else has to be made public... you just send them the current information needed so they can change the echolist or filegate data and off they go... then you remember to remove those areas from your updates so there's no conflict :)

Presenting The FidoGazette: An Intelligent Alternative
    By Sean Dennis

I'd like to welcome everyone to the first issue of the FidoGazette.

The FidoGazette is NOT in any way an attempt to "usurp" the FidoNews
nor its editor, so please check your conspiracy theories at the door.

Now, you're probably wondering, "Who is this guy?".

Most of you know me, a few of you hate me (not that that matters).
I'm Sean Dennis, also known as 1:18/200 and now 1:1/23. I have been
a member of Fidonet since 1998 as an official node and 1996 as a
point. I am a former regional coordinator (Region 11). I am also
the author of the Cheepware line of freeware BBS doors and sysop
utilities. I am also a sysop, running Outpost BBS using Telegard/2
v3.09.g2-sp4/mL under eComStation 1.2MR. eComStation is a third
party version of OS/2 Warp. Yes, I'm a big OS/2 fan.

I am also a bit of a spitfire at times. I have a problem with
engaging my mouth before my brain at times, as quite a few of you
have so kindly pointed out to me, even as I type this. I will do my
very best to leave my personal views out of this publication, save
for the editorial page. I want this to be by the sysops, for
    the sysops.

The main goal of the FidoGazette is to disseminate knowledge-useful
things that can help a sysop grow and learn in his hobby. There's
also room in here for humor and a small amount of constructive
criticism too, but no room for vulgarity, personal attacks, flames
or any sort of general malcontentment of any type. Before anyone
asks or whines, I will absolutely not publish anything that could
start a flame war or anything else in that catagory. Remember,
I am the editor. If you wish to vent, please do so in another
    forum, not the FidoGazette.

You will find submission information at the end of the FidoGazette.
I encourage anyone who feels they have something to contribute to do
so. Even though you might not think it, someone out there might be
looking for that little tidbit of information. Experience counts in
this hobby and to share it is to give something of yourself back to
    the community.

Again, welcome to the FidoGazette! We're glad you're here and we
hope to enjoy a long, continuous run with your help and support.

No one (exept maybe a few) want the zone wars to return.

I have never thought of the gazette being anything more than an alternative fidonet newsletter.

So you did not see it? That reminds me of the late 70ties when I lived and worked in Cape Town, South Africa. If you did not want to see apartheid, you did not have to see it, These townships located in the Cape Flats, they were not on the map. No road signs pointing to them. To see them you'd have to go explore. He, let's see where this unmarked, not on the map dirt road goes...

Of course that (not having to see it) only works if you were on the side of the oppressor. For the other side it is different. It was also different for me. I worked in a hospital...

If you don't want zone wars then don't participate in them.

Ignoring a war is difficult for those on the receiving end of the hostilities...

It is also difficult for those whose job it is to serve both sides. Like it was when I worked in that hospital in Cape Town. And when I was the FTSC Chairman...

I hate saying this because I do not like to speak ill of those no

I already knew something was up when I passed the lady at immigration, she became nervous, complained at how slow her system was while her other colleagues were happily typing away. So I collected my suitcase which contained one business suit, one pair of nice shoes, three pairs of socks, three sets of underwear, 3 T-shirts, a white shirt, a neck tie and a box of chocolates. Also toiletries. And 3 hulks were waiting for me and escorted me to the side. I must say, they were very courteous and friendly ... the longer it took for them to search my modest possessions, the more it became obvious from my relaxed demeanor their search would be in vain.

At the beginning they said "You have not passed customs yet and you may still alter your customs declaration. You will just pay duties on that. If you report nothing and we discover contraband, then you may be charged in a court of law".

I tell you, I knew exactly what was the matter and I just stood there, hands in pocket, whistling, having fun ... after close to an hour they took my paperwork and passport, stamped it and "Welcome to the United States".

But I think it was the one whose name we're not supposed to mention who knew the flightnumber and the arrival time. Close to 19 years ago and some of the details may be becoming blurry.

    Take care,

    that's exactly what it is...

I created the FidoGazette because the FidoNews was and still is moribund. Anything else Ward or others say otherwise is just a fever dream on their
    part.

The FidoGazette is for all of Fidonet, not just Zone 1. However, with a majority of Zone 2 being insular, I'd not expect anyone from Zone 2 to participate in the FG though I would certainly be welcome to be wrong on

    Terry,

You're also peeing on your feet?

Solved that issue by sitting down on the seat plus it took too long standing.

Like the little girl being disappointed that she can't pee standing
up, the way Daddy does. :P

Or like these memes and stories between young kids:

    1) The boy and girl are looking down their diapers, and one says "So,
that explains the difference in our salaries".

    2) The boy and girl are naked in the bathtub together, and he tells her
(as she reaches for his member), "You can't have mine!! You broke yours
    off!!".

    3) Years ago, a young boy and girl lived in this small country town. This
was back when life was simple...where you could leave your doors unlocked
at night, and didn't have to worry about perverts kidnapping your kids.

The boy was Christian, and the girl was Catholic, and their respective churches were right across the street from each other. Plus, they were
great friends, so they walked to church in their fancy clothes each
    Sunday.

Well, one Sunday at church, during the services, there was a huge thunderstorm, and it just poured rain. Afterwards, as they walked home
they came across a huge puddle, and correctly assumed that if they got
their nice clothes dirty, they'd get the spanking of their lives. The
little girl was about to cry, and her boy friend (as it were) thought
a moment, and came up with a novel idea.

"I'll be like Sir Walter Raleigh...a true gentleman". Let's strip
butt naked, and I'll carry you across, then our clothes across, so
they won't get dirty. Then, no one will know that anything happened".
His girl friend brightened up, and consented.

So, they both strip butt naked right there, and as a perfect
gentleman, he does what he said he would do...carry her, then the
clothes across to the dry side of the puddle.

As they're standing there, looking at each others nude body, the
little girl says "I didn't know there was such a difference between
    Protestants and Catholics". <G>

    4) Along the same time as the above, Momma and her daughter would go
traveling in the summer, taking the interstate highway. This was long
before you had to worry about the pedophiles and perverts at the rest
    areas.

In potty training her daughter (a ritual for all parents), she told
her to always look for the LONGER name...and it would be WOMEN versus
MEN. She learned that the longer one was the one she'd use.

Well, they are traveling one year, and after stopping off for a
nice picnic lunch, Momma admonishes her daughter to go use the
bathroom before they start off again...and tells her daughter to
    "look for the longer name".

The little girl gets to the restrooms, and the signs note LADIES
versus GENTLEMEN -- guess which one is longer. <G>

So, she does as Momma has told her, and walks in there, and
there's a little boy naked as a jaybird. Curiosity strikes the
little girl (she has never seen a naked boy), and asks him "What
are you doing??"...then sees his member, and asks "What have you
got there??" and "What does it do??".

The little boy tells her, and astonished, the little girl says
"Boy!! That's a handy thing to have along at picnics!!".

I would've loved to seen the look on Momma's face when she
    told her. <BG>

So here you claim that we can e-mail Janis.

she has a gmail account or didn't you know about that?

Why should we know about that?

if you were one of those that might have a need to contact her outside
of fidonet, then she would have given it to you...

And here you claim I can only e-mail her if she gave that e-mail address to me. Well, she didn't. And it works both ways, I see no need for her to contact me oustide Fidonet so I did not give her my e-mail address.

So you say I can not e-mail her. So out of the windows goes your original claim that I can e-mail her.

Not that I want or need to. I am not going to e-mail Janis. Because I see no reason, It is Sean that claims he got an e-mail from Janis. The burden of proof is on him.

Now that I have your attention... For the sake of argument and only for the sake of argument, I have not, nor did I have any intention of actually do this, assume that I had beaten Sean to it.

Suppose that *I* had posted a message in here claiming the position of moderator of this echo and the position of the editor of the Gazette. Suppose *I* had posted rules stating among other things that EP1 is in force here and that no echolist is accepted as authoritive regarding who is moderator and what are the rules. Suppose *I* had followed up with postings telling participants that their postings are off topic and to take it elsewhere.

How would you (and Sean) respond to that? Would it be acceptable to you? Would you comply with my rulings?

I wasn't talking about content, I was asking what is the issue if Sean continues the gazette.

to the FG than this exchange of ideas is doing here ...

This has not been anything like an exchange of ideas.

I'm patiently waiting for the next issue ...

I was born in an english speaking country. The foreign language
was primilarily only within the home. That's probably a salient
    difference between you and I.

Sean claimed that he had received a netmail from Janis. The
burden of proof for that claim is on him.

First you snub my use of the term plaintiff because this matter
is not in court of law, yet you use "burden of proof" where
that term is use quite normally in court. Ah.. have I stumbled
into the Court of MvdV? :/

The proof in the legit hand-over is in the successful
elisting. Sean wouldn't be able to do that unless Janis
    provided the password. ;)

Sorry, the history of Fidonet has many examples of faul
play. That he managed to get a password for an e-list means
nothing to me. E-lists are not recognised as authoritive in
these matters in most parts of Fidonet anyway.

Perhaps this exchange belongs in CONSPRCY echo. :/

The nature of Fidonet echomail is that echos can be added at
will, and participating systems can choose to link up or not. A
certain amount of cooperation and understanding is ingrained in
    the process.

What difference does it make how a transition took place and
handed to another person who is willing to nurture it?

Besides, Sean was the original creator of the echo (and
newsletter) too. It seems appopriate for Sean to carry its
torch irregardless what other people fantasize has happend.

You have the ability to conduct your own investigation too. A
simple google search has provided several possibilities to try.

Suppose that *I* had posted a message in here claiming the position of moderator of this echo and the position of the editor of the Gazette.

    OK, let's suppose that.

Suppose *I* had posted rules stating among other things that EP1 is in force here and that no echolist is accepted as authoritive regarding who is moderator and what are the rules. Suppose *I* had followed up with postings telling participants that their postings are off topic and to take it elsewhere.

You could do that if you wanted to. In this case Sean beat you to it. Is it possible you and Sean could work together on the gazette.

How would you (and Sean) respond to that? Would it be acceptable to you? Would you comply with my rulings?

Sure, if you were an editor/co-editor of the gazette and the echo and you made realistic rulings.

Of course we all know that is not what you are doing here.

The Fido Times is unused and if you have real ideas for a fido zine you could do that there, or something similar.

    No kidding ...

Janis crossposted some messages from echomail which we all had read already ...

I do not consider that "content".

The real problem is that as good as no-one is willing/available to write content. In the heyday there were plenty developments, the ratio of that has decreased substantially.

It is obvious with the Fidonews ... I've been writing obituaries ... should be a hint.

I also encouraged Vince to write something about his Filegate-activity ... if he doesn't ... well ... the story of the horse and the water?

My understanding of "burden of proof" (BOP) is that it only
comes into play when the claim is of an accusatory nature: in a
dispute. Same thing applies when filing insurance claims,
criminal claims, etc.. All of those types have a root damage
associated with the claim. Sean's claim does not encompass
    damages or harm.

Sean's claim was not a dispute. It was a statement. Your
response was accusatory (possibly harmful to character) that
his statement was false, thus the burden was on you.

HOWEVER, I read that BOP can also apply in science where a
certain claim is made, and thus the BOP is on the scientist.
But I doubt that BOP is an issue unless the scientist ends up
in litigation, where a harm is associated with the claim.

This echo transfer matter issue is far from a harmful nature.
And, as I pointed it out it is very easy for Janis to have
communicated the necessary password for elist purposes.

There is no need for complexity. It would not be the first time that there was intervention from the e-list keeper to recover a "stranded" listing...

I would not call it foul play if the e-list keeper had marked the listing as "available" when Janis left.

Unfortunately the sad reality is that foul play has been a significant factor on many occasions in Fidonet.

Okay, you're slower than I thought. Let me clarify what I thought was
    already obvious:

    When I said I wasn't bitching about the FidoNews/FidoGazette, I meant
in regards to not throwing a hissy fit about somebody taking over the FG
after it's previous manager pulled the plug.

Why do you care if S.D. (re)takes over the FG? Did *YOU* want to take
it over? Is that why your panties are so bunched up? If not, then do
us all a favor and STFU and let those that want to continue it do so.

My statement above about the FN being nothing more than an automated
posting of lame bullshit is completely accurate. In fact my echomail
dupe checker filters out half the messages (pages) of it because they
are EXACTLY the same as the previous week's. I'll give you credit for
posting an article recently, but that's a rarity and you know it.

I'm about done with this conversation, so don't bother.

not an asshole. It *could* mean that you're both assholes.
