Hello,
I'd like to register FastEcho, but the site's registration form
points
to a 404 error, and the Slash BBS seems unavailable.
Any ideas?

Yeah, Decompile it and remove the registeration crap out of
it. I'm sure the author is out of the BBS scene. and besides,
the idiot got my money too and split.
bastards.

that's a nice attitude... no doubt you win many friends with it... do
you have a problem with someone having a real life outside the computer and fidonet?
bastards.
did you not get what you paid for? seems to me that you did... everyone did... no one was promised any future upgrades or development,
TTBOMK...

No, But what I do have a problem with is people
offering a product. and then when he decides, oh,
this ain't for me anymore, he splits and takes
everyone's money and leaves the scene, leaving
everyone swinging...
and besides, who asked you anyhow?
bastards.

It doesn't matter, If you gonna offer a product, stand
behind it. Don't offer it and then make your money and
spilt the scene. that's bad business,
Fastecho's author did it, Gecho's author did it, FrontDoor's
original author did it, as did Allfix's author, when he
found out he couldn't nickle and dime everyone to death for
upgrades. this is why hackers are so active. because of
putz's like that.

<lots of rambling snipped>
Okay, then fine... why don't the SELL the source code to
someone else, that IS interested in keeping the product
alive and supporting it?
why?
Because they want to continue to nickle and dime people...
it's a small cash cow. and a big rip-off!

yes, slash shutdown his bbs operations some time back, IIRC...
have you tried to contact the author directly? he is still listed in
the nodelist and his web pages are still active... if it were me, i'd contact him and just ask him for a registration key and see what comes about...
try sales@softeq.de or tobi@softeq.de and see what happens...
bastards.

frontdoor has only had one main author as did the others... each
business is free to determine their fees and regulations... you call
it nickel and dimeing... they call it putting food on their table and paying their rent so thay can give you what you believe you desire... without food and rent, they can't do anything at all to provide you
the software that you have...
i'm a shareware author, myself, and i don't guarantee or promiseSame here. I've written a couple pieces of software with another in the works. It usually works, but if not, then DANG! Oh well. Sorry.
anything other than it will take up space on your drive... if it works
for you, that's great... if not, you own all parts and pieces ;)
other than that, /if/ i can get another version or program written and released, that's a good thing... if, at some time, i see that i can't
do it any more, then i'm under no obligation to remain or support
it... as much as i'd hate it, i'd not have much choice in the
matter...
maybe instead of whining and crying like you do above, you should tryDon't I know that one. NLBuild has already taken three times the amount of time
it yourself and see what its like... it takes a lot more than a few
hours a night after a long days work to get this stuff done... and
when you throw a family in with children and a spouse who also wants
their time with you, well, you count the hours available and tell us
what you come up with ;)
bastards.
did you not get what you paid for? seems to me that you did...
everyone did... no one was promised any future upgrades or

I think he's saying he paid for a key and never got it.
bastards.

I think he's saying he paid for a key and never got it.
if that was what he was trying to say, then he should have just spit
it out and said it... he was pretty direct in his statements... he
also did not deny that he got what he paid for... if it was a key that
he didn't get, that statement should have brought that right out...

Ok so I'm wrong. If he did state he got what he paid for then
