• FE loosing netmail

From Rob Ireland@1:2401/0 to All on Fri Oct 31 03:49:08 2003
    Hey all!

I've got a real pickle of a problem here, that I just can't seem to be able to be able to wrestle to the ground.

It seems that no matter what I do, FE keeps 'eating' my outbound netmail.

According to te logs, and, naturally, the programs output when I run it, it IS seeing the netmails, but they just disappear! :(

Here's a ("debug") log snippet as an example:

    ---------- Fri 31 Oct 03, FastEcho 1.46; SCAN
    + 3:37:41 NetMail: 2, EchoMail: 0
    + 3:37:41 Active 0:00:01 (Extern 0:00:00)

    ---------- Fri 31 Oct 03, FastEcho 1.46; PACK
    + 3:37:56 NetMail: 0
    + 3:37:56 Active 0:00:00 (Extern 0:00:00)

I tried a complete re-install the other day (right from scratch..boy was that fun! :( ) and it sent ONE netmail as expected, but then just returned to the current state afterwards, with no changes made in between.

I located a patch for a netmail problem... I'm not sure if this is the issue that that patch was specifically for, but it needs a program called BUPDATE, which I can't seem to find.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so, what was done to fix it?

Any insight on this issue would be most helpful.

    Additionally, who's currently developing/supporting FE?

If the scan is working fine, then the problem may be with the 'primary' netmail
area (a *.Msg directory). SCAN extracts copies from a secondary netmail area and places them in the primary. When the PACK operates it should be extracting
copies from the primary area and packs them up into outbound bundles, according
to your routing rules. The primary netmail area can be shared with your mailer, BTW, if it can use such.

The patch is really only useful if your mailer does Binkley-style outbound, and, is specifically aimed at fixing output from a PACK command when the -P option is used. I have a copy of the update doover here: BUPD124A.ZIP (08-Apr-97); 18K small.

Nope. FE's been running here since late '94.

    Additionally, who's currently developing/supporting FE?

    I thought Tobi was!

    Cheers,
    Paul.
