• GOVT SHUTDOWN

From Jeff Binkley@1:226/600 to Jeff Binkley on Wed Oct 2 12:55:00 2013

I woke up this morning and the world hadn't ended, as predicted by a JB>number of Dems. Now their worst fears take hold as each day goes by
and the world doesn't end. Their fear tactics of doom and gloom
won't come true. The people will see that the fears from the left
are way over blown. Obama and the left will now start the hand
waiving about what could happen or what will happen in the future.
All that has happened is that their ability to borrow money has been JB>revoked (i.e. we've taken away their credit card). Now they have to JB>live within their means. For the hard left, this is the end of the JB>world scenario. Maybe they can get Ben to print them up a stack of
cash and bring it over in trucks :)

Well day two has come and pretty much the same as day 1, except that the
Obama administration made some bad decisions by closing down national
parks and some WWII vets had to take matters into their own hands. It
will be interesting to see how the administration deals with its
decision making around how to live within its financial means. We'll
get a glimpse into whether Obama wants to do the right thing for the
country with regards to spending priorities or whether he will resort to
his typical political decision making. This is what happens when mommy
and daddy take away Junior's credit card.

Turns out pretty much every business publication of any note and
business agencies disagreed with you. That includes the WSJ, the
US Chamber of Congress, and The Economist and Financial Times.

Oh, and none of that had anything to do with taking anyone's
charge card away, that deadline had not even arrived yet, and
now it won't for months. Didn't you know that?

waiving about what could happen or what will happen in the future.

Good thing I didn't see this immediately. Gave it time to end.

All that has actually happened is, the Republicans caved. They
saw the end of their world coming, and they got scared. As it
is, many Republicans are hostile to the Tea Party, even more
    than they were before.

Ted Cruz is looking more and more like the looney he is, and
    even Republicans are seeing it.

Well day two has come and pretty much the same as day 1,
except that the Obama administration made some bad
decisions by closing down national parks and some WWII vets
had to take matters into their own hands. It will be

They did not make a decision. That was the way the law is
written. No money, they shut down.

If it was just a decision the feds made, why did NYC, under
their Republican mayor, come up with $15,000/day to reopen The
Statue of Liberty? Why did Arizona come up with $115,000/day to
reopen part of the Grand Canyon? That ain't chump change, so why
would state and city governments, Republican run state and city
government, come up with money like that if it wasn't necessary?

interesting to see how the administration deals with its
decision making around how to live within its financial
means. We'll get a glimpse into whether Obama wants to do

There was no decision to make. The law was written that way, no
one can rationally say monuments are crucial functions. And the
law forbids volunteers to run things while the funding is ended.

    Law, Jeff, law.

Giving a government control over health care is not a good idea. It TR>>gives that government the tool to limit what health care people get.

As opposed to before, when insurance companies decided what
    health care people get.

    ...

Unfortunately too many people have become socially liberal
and only care about this when it impacts them and assume

Or when they realize people are actually dying for lack of
    health care.

When they realize about 50% of all bankruptcies involve medical
bills, and most of them had good insurance.

    ...

Did you ever notice how so many of those who oppose national
    health care don't have children?

Low information voters saw BO as `the first black
president', and wouldn't look beyond that. They demanded
scholastic records of presidential candidates going back
many presidential races ago, but they gave this guy a pass
when he refused to release his. That raises the strong

Anybody can demand any records from anybody, few presidential
    candidates have released their's.

suspicion that we have the first `affirmative action'
president ever elected (to `two' terms, no less!).

No, Bush was the first Affirmative Action president. He was
admitted to grad school as a legacy, which is affirmative
action, whether you like it or not.

Presidents' have had their birth places and records heavily
delved into since I can remember, starting with Franklin
Roosevelt. No records have ever been covered with the
secrecy this guy had. How does an *American* attend one or

Almost every president's records have had that much secrecy.

covered with the secrecy this guy had. How does an
*American* attend one or more of our university's as a
`foreign exchange student', and yet claim to be

Since that never happened, that's not a problem. Since you have
had it explained before, the Fulbright he supposedly got at
Occidental College was impossible, it was only for grad
students, and Obama was an undergrad.

This guy was touted as highly educated and highly
intelligent. If he was so educated and so smart...why does
he need a teleprompter to speak?

Why did every president and presidential candidate since the
    teleprompter was invented?

This guy has poured taxpayer money into so-called `green
    energy' companies,

Same ones Bush did, in general.

doing so. And he's completely shut off much of our access
to readily available energy by crippling both the oil AND
the coal industry. He's come very close

The oil and coal industry is sailing along just fine, and making
more profit than ever. Oh, and predictions are, as things are
going, the US will displace Saudi Arabia in quantity of oil
    produced.

to bankrupting the country, has added more to our debt than
all the presidents have since George Washington, is about
to add even more before he's through.

George W. Bush added more debt than all the presidents since
George Washington. Ronald Reagan tripled the debt added by all
presidents since George Washington, according to the right wing
Van Mises Institute. Obama has non only not added that much
debt, but has a fair way to go before he does.

Reagan and Bush both inherited national debts going down as
percent of GDP, and both sent it soaring.

impeach, but the Senate will not convict. In foreign
affairs he's ruined America, maybe for good and all, in its
world standing. He's made us the

GW Bush ruined America in the world's eyes. Obama is still more
respected than Bush. In the arena of world politics, he's
probably more respected than any president from Reagan on, other
    than Clinton.

OTOH, right now the rest of the world considers the Republicans
an international disaster waiting to happen.

laughing stock of the whole world. He's like a bull in a
china shop...backing and lunging, thrusting horns from side
to side in its effort to escape, and doing more and more
    damage every time it moves.

Mythbusters disproved the myth of the Bull in a China Shop.
