Why would this be considered "European"? Those baud rates were used everywhere as far as I know.

American Baud Day would be March 12th. Get it?

Because the date is in European format (day/month/year).
Ahhh, yes. LOL... Well, in the same spirit - Happy belated American Baud Day to all! Even those who write their dates wrong! ;-)

Day-first date formats make about as much sense to me as minute-first time formats.

Never really thought of it like that. I personally prefer either: YYYY-MM-DD or Mon-DD-YYYY (e.g. Dec 7 2024) - all unambiguous.
Yes, I realize that now. Haha, silly method used by the same folks who insist on using the metric system. ;-)
I guess we are all wrong, though, because yyyy-mm-dd is the real winner :)

I weas just recalling the scene in "Masters of the Air" where 3 airmen shot down in a bombing raid are taken underground by the resistance.
They ask them a series of questions (How many home runs did Babe Ruth
hit, etc) and then ask them to write down their names and the date they were shot down.
They all proceed to walk out from the building and the resistance guy drops back a step and shoots one of them in the head. He'd written the date in mm/dd/yy, and so they used that to determine he was european
and a spy.

Hmmmm... did you mean to write "dd/mm/yy" there? :-) Because that is what would identify him as European...

I like to sort. Give me YYYYMMDD any time.

I am an AMERICAN SPY, apparently, disguised as a German Spy.
