    Hello Nick (and all)

Okay... I've said before I like labatt 50.
They just brought back regular size cans labelled
Labatt 150. For a mass produced ale I still say it's
    fucking good.

I've always found it somewhat ironic that Fidonet was started by a gay, anarchist punk-rocker who published a homo-core 'zine and just happened to be into technology, but it was usurped by those who feel this compulsive need to regulate the morality and language of others.

I remember in the late '90s when BBSes began to carry USENET news feeds
fairly regularly; the apoplexy of BBS sysops who didn't understand the medium and tried to control it was strange and vaguely amusing before it got
annoying and people started dropping those posts from things that looked like BBSes into the bitbucket.

found so offensive, so I assume it was the mass produced ale talk. He did after all quote it all.

Only fidonet. I'm in 8 other networks and many many echo's in fidonet
and the only ones I've ever recieved a message like the one our moderator
sends me are in his echo's. Most people know the difference between a curse that is expressing joy from a cruel one.

As an example if I said "Joe you are a fu**ing ***hole" that would be some thing I would expect a message from the pope Roger about.

Thank you, for your wonderful and very thoughtful post Joe.

Gee, sounds like you ought to join our drinking... I mean fishing trip. I'm waiting for Nick and Ward to determine when they are coming to South Louisiana, where Roger and I live. Maybe you could join us. I have enough rods and reels for all of us. Roger will be the judge of the drinking.. I mean fishing tournament to see who drank the most beer, and who caught the biggest fish. We'll cook the fish after and have a feast. I have a feeling it's going to really happen this time.

Back in my youth in New Orleans it was like this:

Creole food was seasoned to taste by the diner

Cajun food was non-existent, but when it came into being, it was spicy to spicy-hot. Most of, but not all of the restaurants and fast food places here serve cajun-type food whether you can stomach it or not.

I once saw a local lawyer sitting in a Mexican restaurant eating chili peppers like you'd eat M&Ms.

Yes. I agree, and that will vary from place to place and especially if you are served it outside of South Louisiana.

I think Creole food would lean more towards Red Beans and Rice, Oysters Rockefeller, Shrimp Remolaude, Chicken Creole, Creole style Gumbo, Turtle Soup,
etc.... those are derived from the Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian, and many other
    immigrant cultures.

Cajun food would be boudin, jambalaya, sausage gumbo, crawfish dishes, other sausage dishes. These came with the French immigrants from Nova Scotia, and the
    local Indian and African cultures.

Making me hungry (time for lunch).

Those routes didn't come close to south Louisiana. (-:

Both pass through Georgia though :) You can smell the swamps as you drive thru.

Back in my youth in New Orleans it was like this:

Creole food was seasoned to taste by the diner
Cajun food was non-existent, but when it came into being, it was
spicy to spicy-hot. Most of, but not all of the restaurants and
fast food places here serve cajun-type food whether you can stomach
    it or not.

Yes. I agree, and that will vary from place to place and especially
if you are served it outside of South Louisiana.

I think Creole food would lean more towards Red Beans and Rice,

My mother cooked that every Monday.

    Oysters Rockefeller,

Never had that. I prefer to eat them raw or dipped into some kind of ketchup.

    Shrimp Remolaude,

I haven't had a decent one of those since the mid-50s. My cousin Gene and I ate at a restaurant on Elysian Fields about a mile south of the lake and it had
great food and a Shrimp Remolaude to die for.

Chicken Creole, Creole style Gumbo, Turtle Soup, etc.... those are derived from the Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian, and many other
    immigrant cultures.

    I'll pass on the above.

I haven't had a good Jambalaya in a long time. No one around here knows how to
make it without adding cayenne pepper and/or tabasco sauce to it.

Cajun food would be boudin, jambalaya, sausage gumbo, crawfish
dishes, other sausage dishes. These came with the French immigrants
from Nova Scotia, and the local Indian and African cultures.

Not the jambalaya made when I was a youth in N.O. Some gumbos are very good and don't burn your tongue.

Making me hungry (time for lunch).

I once saw a local lawyer sitting in a Mexican restaurant eating
chili peppers like you'd eat M&Ms.

    GAG!! (-:

Yes. (-: The real question is what was I doing there! My ex-wife loves Mexican food, so that's probably why.

In the time it took to write this soliloquy, Nick could have written a 32-bit D'Bridge. (-:0

I-85 goes from Sault Saint Marie to Detroit MI, Toledo OH, Dayton OH, down through Kentucky to Knoxville TN, Chattanooga TN, to Altanta GA, Macon GA and down the central and western side of Florida to Tampa FL, Sarasota FL, Naples FL and then straight across to the east coast at Fort Lauderdale and south to terminate in Miami... the exit for I-10 is north-west of Lake City FL by a few miles...

First time I drove thru Georgia, and stopped at a restaurant for lunch, I had no clue what the waitress was asking me. My parent, who I was driving south, had a good laugh at that. If I remember right, I think she was asking if I had a penny so she could make even change for the bill. It was the way she pronounced pennny, that I could not make out :) BTW, there aint no peaches in the swamps :) The signs on the Interstate even gave the names of the swamps

Yes, but I started my journey just past Kingston On. Gananoquai (If I spelled that right), on to Watertown, NY, to Binghamtom, etc. On I-95 I went to the I-4 exit which took me to Lakeland, FL. I-75 we exited just passed the Florida Toll way straight to Lakeland, rather then going to Tampa and then I-4 backtracking to Lakeland. I have done both.

You must be referring to the smell of swamp gas that bubbles up to the surface from the dead and decaying matter underneath. That's Louisiana's natural gas industry at work. Yes. Swamps can smell that way, and they can also smell green and fresh. It just depends on the specific area.

I remember the peculiar strong odor of sulfur gas that we get after a hurricane passes. It stirs up the bottom of the bayous and shallow lakes causing the nasty gas to be released. It will usually linger for weeks.

no, they do not... remember there's also a bunch of US highways that are also in play... I-97 goes from Annapolis' US50 to Baltimore's I-695/I-895 loop... many of them do go from I-something to I-something but not all...

I may have a look at that later. If I remember, Eisenhower also mandated that every so ofter there would be at least a mile of straight highway, so an aircraft could land if necessary. I believe the Autobahn system was the same in that regard

Both pass through Georgia though :) You can smell the swamps as
    you drive thru.

You can smell a swamp? Wow!

I certainly can. A very peculiar smell. Perhaps you are used to the
    smell? :)

I believe you were smelling something else.

Not when it gave the name of the swamp on the information plaque on
the highway <G>. A damp musty type of smell.

You must have been downwind of it. Swamps don't usually smell all that bad unless they are as Joe described to you, Joe. (-:

To come through this state, you would have to have taken I-55.

I seem to recall seeing directions on I-75 to take a certain exit to
go to your state. I may be wrong.

Then let me ask you one simple question. Did you see the following
sign at any time on your way to your destination?

    Welcome
    to
    Louisiana

Probably not <G> Like I said, I was not certain, but I have seen
    exit signs

    Do you see one now?

... If a parsley farmer is sued, can they garnish his wages?

    Only if they lettuce.

    That all you got?

    I dont see a come-back <G>

It may have been corny and that isn't me.

Sad to report that at the moment, it seems that was all I have.
Cannot think of a suitable comeback right now :(

Well, you win some, lose some.

But you never saw the sign I described, correct?

    I already stated such.

Then you should have used the exit that read "Lemme outta here!" (-:

I have seen various welcome signs. Welcome to New York, Tenessee,
    Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, etc.

Maybe we didn't like you, but I can't make myself believe that.

There were many places I wished I could have detoured to during my
many trips south. Unfortunately time was a factor, as was my
    elderly mother

I can understand that. I'm still upset that I didn't go to Sask when I was supposed to.

... Travel too fast and you miss all that you are travelling for.
