It's just spam. Probably trying to tempt people to click on the links in the message...

So spammers in 2024 still make the effort to post to Fidnet and create accounts in BBSes! This is truly amazing :).

But let's talk about the subject matte:, I am sure there is a lot of
mysogyny out there but I truly think if somebody wanted to implant chips
into humans they could just offer yet another vaccination. Much easier and penalty-free, in contrast to trying to do it by stalking in public pools
    :)

Are all the other BBSes SynchronetBBS-based?

I'd say, "Sysops unite and block that user."

No, this guys hit other BBSes (e.g Mystic boards) too.

Nope, he hit my EleBBS too. He posted locally though and I removed his
    access immediately.

We should add "Pengo" to the twitlist...

Would that help? Next time he logs in as "Penga", etc...

I think it would be better to limit new users from posting in global areas, until verified.

He/she/it switches names. I have a couple of them blocked.

OTOH, I have most of my msg areas set up so that a new user should not be
able to log on, create an account, and then be able to post. I used to not
do that, thinking why would anyone go to the trouble to create an account,
    but then someone did.

I already do that, which is why he only posted locally.

I'm surprised that someone would even bother going through the
manual registration and login process and dump stupid links
like that into fidonet. It almost guarantees being blocked.
So.. a short-lived agenda for the perp.

They don't care. They can register again. It happens a lot on internet web forums.

If Fidonet ever became popular again you would see a lot of those...

But a sysop has great power to delete/block a user at any time.
The only issue might be if a bbs operates on auto-pilot for
most of the time and the sysop doesn't check in. But even
then, their uplink can block input from that bbs.

Sure.. some nefarious posts/links might get through, but they
would be shortlived in the ftn way of doing things.

BTW, managing nefarious users is super easy in the Tg-BBS
system. First, a user needs to "register" with the bot - it
would be nearly impossible to automate the process. Next, it
they post an unacceptable message, the user can be blocked/
banned in one step. That user would be hard-pressed to try
posting again - they would need to establish a new registration
(ie. new SIM or phone number) with Tg in the first place.
