Hi, everyone.
I'm wondering whether I should use the DOS or Win32 version of BT with SPITFIRE since SF is DOS-based. The board will eventually be running under W2K.

From my reading of the docs I understand that there's
problems with the w32 version passing a com port to a dos
based bbs, but could be wrong. I"d run the dos version of
btto be safe.
That is absolutely true (the port handoff problem), but
unfortunately I no longer remember the details. I was
trying it under Win98, though, and haven't tried it under
XP. The problem is that a DOS program needs exclusive use
of the port, and won't let go of it until it terminates.
When it does, it's parent DOS program (in this case, the
DOS command interpreter) inherits it and won't let go.
With XP, the command interpreter is a completely different
(32-bit) beast, the problem might no longer exists.

May be if people use WinFOSSIL but that thing's so old it probably doesn't work under Windows XP or Vista.
But man ... MODEMS ... DIALUP ?? you've -got- to be joking.

I've gotten calls from Russia, Turkey and other far-off
places all the time when I had my dialup line in (and
the new one will be active in a few weeks).
And when was the last time you received a call from Russia, Turkey and such other far-off places on your dialup line ?
Quite a while ago when I had a dialup line. However,
this is not the right place for this discussion and in
fact, in light of your reputation for being a
sh*tstirrer, I'm ending this conversation right here.
You have proven to be a complete idiot in MUFFIN and
TUB and I do not suffer fools lightly.
Relax. You'll live longer.

Maybe NetSerial will work.

Well a lot of folks here, it is still the only option ...

In a lot of cases, it's the most reliable option. Even here, with my
DSL line, I have problems connecting to people at times. It's amazing
how many people that I have connections to with mail want to use POTS again. :)
