    Nick,

Is it just me or is anyone else getting more callers lately?

Starting to get some "regulars" here...

I've been down more than usual, due to severe weather. Hurricane
force winds blasted through here around 3am this morning, and I was
without power for 15 hours. No structural damage, but widespread downed
trees and power outages in the area.

I just keep getting script kiddies but that's from the lack of doing anything on my part. I also don't really advertise my BBS. I haven't updated my Telnet BBS List listing in quite some time but I'll wind up removing that eventually because of how Dave Perrussel treated me on Facebook (I won't go into it here). I am just too busy right now taking care of family matters and working. I was called in today (it's a 90 minute round trip) to check on some servers since we had severe weather this weekend and two electric poles got knocked over, putting both of my employer's local factories offline for nearly eight hours.

I've noticed an uptick of questions about Linux and OS/2 BBSing that I have been receiving in other lines of communication (netmail, email, Skype). It seems there's more people putting in boards. I've been seriously thinking about putting a POTS line in even at the outrageous cost of $50+ a month here locally with taxes (the US has the highest-taxed telecommunications system in the world). But, with that being said, when I did have POTS, I got a lot of local callers interestingly...

I'm hoping things will calm down enough for me to work on my hobbies more. Just working, sleeping and repeating the process is not very fun.

I post my BBS ad once a week...to me, that's more than enough. I want
folks to logon because they WANT to...NOT because they have to. Some
systems have multiple posts of their ad in the same day, and practically
every day of the week. To me, that's overkill.

    Sean,

I remember some local sysops in Texas many years ago made t-shirts with thei SD>BBS ad on it and handed them out at flea markets. Those were the days.

I had one T-Shirt made awhile back for my BBS...but it got torn, so I
need to get some new ones made. On the front, it said "The Thunderbolt
BBS" with the URL for it...and on the back, it said "Have You Hugged
Your SYSOP Today??". That was the perfect setup for folks to inquire
    about. :)

Not neccesarily more but steady stream. 8-10 a day. I also transit some 2-4,000 packets a day in a game league. I seem to have the largest remaining BRE league here.

I agree. I know that in the Wildcat! Sysops Alumni group that I am a member of
on Facebook, the same guy posts the same ad for his BBS several times a day it seems. It's quite annoying.

I can understand this all TOO well. My big thing, though, is that I wish there
were more warmer days ahead of us as I'd like to ride my bike more often than I
    do :)

Well, with winter, it's colder. While the cold makes the arthritis
hurt more, it means no insects (the spiders have been real bad around
here this year), no heat illness, and no tornadoes. We haven't had much
of a winter the last 2 years in Arkansas (especially around Little
Rock), so I think we're overdue for one.
