• FTN Survey

From Sean Dennis@1:18/200 to All on Mon Mar 26 21:21:02 2018
    Hello All.

This was crossposted into BBS_ADS (which wasn't the right echo for it), but as a favor to Dale Barnes, the author of Intermail, I'm posting this in here.

This is being cross posted so please share this among other sysops please:

    Fidonet Technology Survey
    by Dale Barnes, 1:220/60

Public Survey created by Dale Barnes and the purpose of the survey is to determine what FTN software is used by everyone. Looking for your feedback on any new or other ideas you may wish for. Authors of other FTN systems were provided early review of the survey for their feedback and some provided further questions to this survey.

This information may be helpful for those that are still doing development work to support the FTN systems.

The survey is hosted via Google Forms:

    https://goo.gl/forms/UNicWNFbCt4W79Jt1

The survey results will be provided on the www.intermail.net site once the results are in. We will leave the Survey active for the month of April to collect all the data for this round.

The list of systems in this survey does not include as a selection for every system that has been developed, so if you see your system not listed, please provide via the "Other" option. In future surveys, will try to include all the active systems that exist.

Thank you for taking the time to answer the survey.

I've got to go back and get the original link for that...too much
other stuff on the BBS that had to come first...especially with an area
    of thunderstorms approaching right now.

BTW, I registered and used both InterMail and InterEcho when I ran GT
Power under dial-up for 13 years, and really enjoyed them!!

The SDK is sadly outdated. I know Joe Martin ported and update the C# structures.

As I stated in an older posting, the database formats changed from v4 to v5
and higher. They even changed from v5 to v6.

Ok, I have the code now so have to review it and play with it. If easy to use, I can include this when I release WinToss (windows tosser) since it was built for a larger number of BBS systems. I just have to build out the wrappers to use the WC api's.

I can't remember now but Virtualbox was much better as you are correct about OS/2: it uses some archaic CPU functions that VMware doesn't emulate correctly.

Yes, out of 1100 nodes we only had about 66 folks respond. Not sure if they did not want to or did not know about it. Will get the results posted as a CSV

I have been so busy with being caregiver for my elderly Mom during the
day (a visiting nurse does actual physical care), then with ham radio
traffic nets at night, that some days, the only things I do with the BBS
is update the ham radio and weather data, and read messages...if I'm
lucky. Everything else has to wait.

I do all of her driving, shopping, banking, phone calls, scheduling, appointment keeping, computer work, etc. She doesn't go out for doctors appointments, grocery shopping, etc. UNLESS I am doing the driving,
helping her in and out of the car, and to a place to sit, while I do the
    rest.

When I shop while she's at home, I don't have to worry about her
snagging the candy or donuts...although I wasn't paying attention this
last time, and darn it, she snagged the donuts that were "calling her
    name". <G>

    Dale,

That is really a great thing you are doing. While hard and stressful, I am DB>sure she is glad to have you there to take care of her.

It does show the type of person you are.

Thank you, sir. I still am able to work with the BBS, but not as much
as I used to. After all, growing up, she did so much for me...and now,
    the roles are reversed.

It's not only the right thing to do, but it's the least I can do for
her. Plus, most kids nowadays couldn't care less about taking care of
    their parents.

    Daryl
