I was curious what everyone is using for a text editor in multimail?
Right now I have notepad pop-up but was curious if there was a better editor to use without breaking MultiMail.

doesn't multimail have an internal editor? IIRC, when i use MM, that's
the one i use... it has been a while (a couple of years) since i did offline mail, though...

Any editor that you can call from the command line and pass a file on
the command line to should work. I used to use fte at one time.

On one of my Windows 10 computers, I use Notepad. I am typing in
Notepad replying to this message. On my Windows 10 laptop
I use a Windows version of the Nano. This is also true on any Linux computer in which I use Multimail. If you like vi, use it.
Just look at your .mmailrc (Linux) and change the editor line. Mine is:
editor: nano --fill=75
BTW, Multimail v.50 is available...
... It's best to be judged by twelve than carried by six.

That's because .50 wasn't officially done by William McBride...
It was created by Robert Wolfe who is hanging out in the echo
somewhere.

That should be .mmailrc (a hidden file in your home directory under OS
X IIRC).
If not, look for mmail.rc which is how it is under Windows and DOS and OS/2.

On Linux, it is a "hidden" file. It has a period in front, ie: /home/user/.mmailrc
It is my undersdanding that Mac OSX is based on BSD, similar to Linux/Unix, so look there.
locate mmailrc
/home/user/.mmailrc

I don't think that joe is available on any OS except Linux though I'm
sure someone could probably port it. nano might be available for OS X.

Well, vi is working good so far! I've learned the few commands

MultiMail 0.50 (Build 31122013)
Version 0.50 of the popular MultiMail
offline mail reader. This includes
both 32- and 64-bit versions of the
program. Built by Robert Wolfe of
Omicron Theta BBS using source code
current as of 31-12-2013.

Yep, I am here. 0.50 is officially in the source repository, but
William has never built binaries for it. AFAICT I am the only one officially building the .50 binaries of MultiMail.
Which reminds me, I should pull the latest source and refresh those binaries :)
And for those interested, I DO host a MultiMail mailing list. Just let
me know if you would like the subscription information and I will send
it or even post it here.

Well, .49 is working fine under Mac now! Opens in Terminal and uses vi editor, which I'm comfortable with now. :-)

So, yes, the joe editor IS available for macOS and OS/X if you install Homebrew from brew.sh.

Okay - you talked me into it - just logged back in and downloaded. Go
halt this mail
read and pick up with that one...
Okay - back again - won't run on my system - I put mm in place of
the old one -
it runs and I get this -
Last login: Sun Apr 23 20:03:02 on ttys000
JimmyMacBookAir:~ jimmylogan$ /Users/jimmylogan/mmail/mm ; exit;
Killed: 9
logout
Saving session...
...copying shared history...
...saving history...truncating history files...
...completed.
[Process completed]
Anything else you know of that I would need homebrew for? It says something to the effect of
'things your Mac should do' or something like that.

Leave off the "; exit" on the end. You can always Ctrl-D when you exit MultiMail.

It is especially handy if you pdo a lot of coding as it has a lot of
the missing stuff that XCode does not have. That and a lot of stuff ported over from Linux :)

Hey - finally took a few minutes today to do a mail run - it connected
here (I) just fine - went to connect to II and it showed 'connected'
to NetFoss, etc. - that one line - then it disconnected.
Not sure if that helps or not. :-)
