I have a APC SmartUPS 1000. It runs 3 computers, monitor and Printer. Probably overkill for a tank but it should stay up for days... APC is a
    great brand for home use.

    1) Without a UPS, what steps should you take when the power goes out?

    2) Can anyone recommend what kind of UPS to get and where to buy it?
(Do they make a humming sound?)

    Thanks.

Most UPSes are quiet but as the capacity goes up they tend to add fans. Your application is unusual for a UPS since the power output is so low. Many UPS units
will waste a portion of battery power anytime they are active, so they won't necessarily go that long at light load. They will be expensive and especially so
if you need extra batteries to get a long runtime.

Battery-powered backup airpumps would be pretty effective and cheap if you can maintain on air power alone.
