• Aquarium Pricing

From Dan Egli@1:311/6 to All on Sun Jul 4 01:43:54 2004
    Hey All,

Anyone know a good place to get an aquarium? Either a chain store (since this is an international echo) or a mail order place. I am looking into replacing a shattered tank and want to know about the cheapest place to get a new one.

Before I upgraded to my next larger tank, I visited
several of the larger local LFS, and found one that
had prices significantly lower on the exact same tank
(same mfr.) compared to other LFS. (I've since
bought several other tanks & other equipment from
the same store, even though it's considerably farther
from my house than several other LFS.)

I'm near a large city (San Antonio TX) so I have
choices and that might make a difference, but I
would recommend you start by visiting as many
LFS as you can. Sometimes the large chains
charge more than even a small LFS but you won't
know that until you compare prices, taking into
account the fact that with most mail order places
    you'll be paying shipping.

You might mention where you live. Someone
here might live in/near the same town and could
    give you more focussed advice.

    LFS? Live Fish Store?

    Local Fish Store.

Hi Dan - I can't help with fish stores in Salt Lake
City but that's a big enough metroplex that
there should be a few LFS around. You might even
call around and ask about a specific size tank that
you're interested in; save you a bit of legwork. :)

BTW my first (and still in operation) 10 gallon
tank is one of those Wal-Mart kits; my husband
bought it for my birthday about 10 years ago. Who
knows who made it but considering how often it's
been moved with no ill effect, it is very well
constructed. Cheap isn't necessarily an indication
    of poor construction.

I'm more picky about larger tanks, though, given
    the larger quanitity of water.
