why is that? the area has not been echolisted in ages... roy removed all of his
echos from the echolist after a snit/fight with a previous echolist operator...
he did not add them to the echolist when the new operator took over the list...
being carried by the backbone is different than being carried by distribution systems... it is a subtle but important difference...

with all of that said, yes, i agree... someone should step up and pick up the echo(s) to keep them alive and hopefully not anyone who has tried to steal them
away from roy in the past...

i never use individual origins for specific echo areas... i use only the default one specifically to avoid problems like this ;) so here's my quote from

Sorry for the delay in replying. I shut the BBS down in mid-September,
to prepare for a move back to my Mom's place from my apartment (she's
now in a nursing home). I've had router and internet issues, and still
have to get a ton of stuff to get unpacked. The Technician is coming by
in the morning.

But, if I can't get the wx1der.dyndns.org deal to work anymore, I'll
be forced to abandon the VADV-PHP website (which I liked much better
than Synchronet's web interface), and use the default Synchronet
interface, which I consider bland compared to VADV-PHP.

My QWK mail packet was 2131k, so I've got a lot of mail to read before bed...but I may skip a lot of it....since I have an early wake-up call.
After the Technician gets done, I may drive the 30 miles to Lonoke to
visit my Mom. I've been so busy with other things that I haven't had a
chance to get over there. Plus, I don't want to drive over there if the
weather is bad...and we have a risk of severe storms here Halloween and Halloween night.

Well, I lost my Dad almost 12 years ago now, and my wife died 2 1/2
months after he did. I'll have a ton of work after my Mom dies, but at
least I have her house, her car, and my possessions. I doubt she'll ever
come home from the nursing home (she's 92), and there's no way she can
drive again.

I know but first of all I'm in no hurry to get messages faster because I
won't get more time to do them and I have no users that wont other areas
than I carry, but I actually have a more modern machine to set in after I
can find/get hold of PCI card containing a PS/2 mouse socket.

Whatever else there is on that card won't matter because the one I have
does have only one USB port and an IrConnector in addition to the PS/2.

As a last resort I could use an USB mouse but that leaves only 2 USB's
for other uses on the 3-port USB card.

ARRL usually sent a bulletin specifying its operating hours for bulletin bradcasts but it hasn't arrived yet even though we are today at the
first sunday of november.

I'm on my way. Yesterday I found and bought a 4-port USB PCI-card and a
USB mouse. Now I have to find/buy USB extensions that allows me to reach
two ports from the front. I can't creep to the back of the machine every
time I want to reach an USB port.

and now you have more USB ports... IIRC, USB can handle up to 256
devices on each port/channel...

I have learnt that it's not that simple. I have a floppy unit that
connects to a laptop. On one laptop it can only read the files but
isn't able to write on the disk's because the current available from
the USB port isn't enough to write to the diskette.

The solution is of course to use two ports to supply the current by
using a Y-extension that connects to two ports and then to the floppy

ARRL usually sent a bulletin specifying its operating hours for bulletin HG>bradcasts but it hasn't arrived yet even though we are today at the
first sunday of november.

They usually don't send it until the first business day after the time
change occurs. It likely will be out later today sometime.

as i'm reading this, yes it is... as i write this it is 20:34 -0400... today has been a long day... we had to dig test pits in raw woods/forest today... lots of vines and undergrowth making it hard for the excavator to get through to the test points... once they got the pits dug, we ran some penetration tests to see how firm the soil material is at that point... one of our holes was 25 feet (7.62 meters) deep... some grueling work at times climbing up and working on the slopes in those conditions...

I'm also glad to see one area after another come back to life again.
Since Florence and other weather disasters only the SYSOP echo has
been alive.

SYSOP? hummm... i know there are several sysop echos but i remember one being dropped by its moderator long ago... i may be thinking of another SYSOP echo, though...

PS: you really need to get your fidonet system somehow connected to the internet so you can get messages faster and be connected to more systems for messages... sadly i'm no longer doing POTS connections but do have tentative plans to look into doing such with my new setup...

Daryl, WX4QZ, in Little Rock, Arkansas. I've had things outside of the
BBS and ham radio take priority lately, so I've been taking some time off
from answering QWK Mail. However, I try to update the weather and ham
radio bulletins on the BBS, when weather permits.

we lost power for about a day at our house, and 2 days so far at work.

I was on a Zoom Meeting with the Portage County Amateur Radio Service
(PCARS) Club in Ohio last night. Right after they drew the 50/50 (the
winner wasn't me, but he donated it back to the club), my power went out!!
I had to email one of the officers, noting "my disappearance wasn't due to
my going off in a temper tantrum, because I didn't win...but apparently,
some idiot took out a power pole. It was out for 5 minutes in total. I'm
going my nets via the Verizon Mi-Fi and the laptop, in case that happens
again.
