           Small amount white or other
           Contrasting color yarn
           Small Amount Black yarn
           Or embroidery floss
           (for embroidery of eyes)
           Small amount yellow or gold yarn for beak
           Yarn needle
           Crochet Hook Size H or
           Whatever size will result
           In gauge: 16sc and 18 rows
           = 4 inches

  Potholder: BACK:
  With Blue or other Main Color: Chain 29

  Row 1 (Right Side): SC in second ch from hook and in
  each chain across: 28 sc

  Note: Loop a short piece of yarn around any stitch to
  mark last row as right side.

  Rows 2-33: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across. Finish
  off.

  FRONT: Work same as back.

  Edging: With WRONG sides together and working through
  BOTH thicknesses, join contrasting color with slip st
  in top RIGHT corner...(any corner will become right
  corner) ch 1, 2 sc in same stitch, sc evenly across to
  next corner (3sc in corner, sc evenly across to next
  corner) around, sc in same st as joining; join with sl
  st to first sc in same st as joining; join with sl st
  to first sc, ch 10, slip st in same st for hanging
  loop); finish off.

  Goose:

  With white or other contrasting color: Chain 17.

  Row 1: (RIGHT SIDE): SC in second ch from hook and in
  each ch across: 16 sc.
  Note: Place marker to mark last row as RIGHT side.

  rows 2-4: Ch 1, turn; 2sc in first sc, sc in each sc
  across: 19 sc

  Row 5: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across

  Row 6: Ch 1, turn; decrease, sc in each sc across: 18
  sc

  Row 7: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across to last 2 sc,
  decrease : 17 sc

  Row 8: Ch 1, turn; decrease, sc in next 5 sc, hdc in
  next 4 sc, dc in next sc, hdc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in
  last sc

  Row 9: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in first sc, sc in next sc,
  hdc in next 3 hdc, dc in next hdc and in next dc, hdc
  in next 4 hdc, sc in next 4 sc, decrease.

  Row 10: Ch 1, turn; decrease, sc in next 3 sc, leave
  remaining sts unworked: 4sc.

  Row 11: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in first sc, sc in next sc,
  decrease

  Row 12: Ch1, turn; sc in each sc across.

  Rows 13 & 14: Repeat Rows 11 and 12.

  Row 15: Chain 3, turn; dc in same st, hdc in next 2
  sc, sc in last sc, 5 sts.

  Row 16: Ch 1, turn; sc in first sc, dc in next 4 sts.

  Row 17: Ch 3, turn; dc in same st and in next dc, hdc
  in next dc, decrease.

  Row 18: Ch 1, turn; decrease, sc in next st, dc in
  last 2 sts: 4 sts

  Row 19: Ch 3, turn; dc in next dc, sc in last 2 sc

  Row 20: Ch 1, turn; decrease (place marker around st
  just made to mark Beak placement.)

  Row 21: Ch 1, turn; pull up a loop in each st across,
  YO and draw through all loops on hook; finish off.

  BEAK:  Row 1:
  With RIGHT side facing, join yellow or gold yarn with
  slip st in end of marked st; ch 1, sc in end of same
  row and in end of next row: 2 sc

  Row 2: Ch 1, turn; decrease: 1 sc

  Row 3: Ch 1, turn; sc in sc, finish off.
  Place french knot on goose for eye.
  Place goose at angle with head toward hanging loop on.
  Whip stitch around goose to sew it too front of
  potholder. I tried just using white yarn, but it looks
  better if you use yellow or gold around the beak.
