is the Sept 8, 2006 filegate.zxx the latest version?

No, the latest one should be Jan. something, 2007.. I haven't sent out one in a
while since the whole fidonews trash left a bad taste in my mouth <g>.. We've had a lot of new sysops come in though so I should send out another even though
there's been no change to it..Look for it here: http://www.filegate.net/info/filegate.zxx

i'll give that a try... the one i got was the one linked on your pages... browser crashed... hang on a sec...

at the bottom of the areas list, right above the "page down" and "back to top" links...

if you're going to be hatching one some time soon, i can wait and hopefully it'll replace the one i have when it comes in... i point allfix to the one distributed in the directory in which it lands after processing... this keeps allfix updated with the latest and i don't have to play with scripts and bats to copy stuff all over the place ;)

just doing what i know best, ma'am <bowing deeply>

i finally got all the BFDS stuff... some 6 hours at 2kb/sec :( i was hopeing to have had it and outta there in an hour or so at my 300kb/sec dsl speeds... oh well... they all got here and i'm over half way thru fixing them up in the files database... for some reason, a bunch of them have "garbage" file_id.diz files that just say "BFDS Mirror" :( one of my tools is a dis/sdi importer and once it is finished, all i have to do is locate all those garbage descriptions and fix them up with what's in the descript.ion file that came along with them :)

won't be too much longer... i'm just waiting on that importer to finish again since i hit the wrong button combo and fired it off a second time

Didn't get to it today, just real busy.. I'll do it Sunday when it's normally sent out, will that work ok for you?

just doing what i know best, ma'am <bowing deeply>

    Lol :)

i finally got all the BFDS stuff... some 6 hours at 2kb/sec :(

Darn, that is so sickening for what we pay for this line :(

    i was hopeing
to have had it and outta there in an hour or so at my 300kb/sec dsl speeds... oh well... they all got here and i'm over half way thru fixing them up in the files database... for some reason, a bunch of them have "garbage" file_id.diz
files that just say "BFDS Mirror" :(

That's interesting.. I'll have to take a look at the files.

one of my tools is a dis/sdi importer and
once it is finished, all i have to do is locate all those garbage descriptions >and fix them up with what's in the descript.ion file that came along with them
    :)

Ok, a bit of work, but what can you do.. :( Maybe you are looking at very old files? The files in the BFDS area go way back.. And maybe some of them came over from Ben via ftp if I was missing some, etc..

won't be too much longer... i'm just waiting on that importer to finish again since i hit the wrong button combo and fired it off a second time

    Hehe :)

    Take care,
    Janis

There was a period when I had too much time on my hands, so I decided to download a bunch of file from my uplink (Bob Swift), explore them and see
if I could provide some meaningful descriptions for the ones that were
lacking. I spent about three months on this "project" and uploaded my descriptions to Bob. He had said that he would make a script available to anyone who wanted to update their file base and I believe he told me that
he was going to forward the scripts / updates to Janis...

You could send netmail (or email) to Bob and make an inquiry into the
scripts and if he will make them available to you. It may take a while to
get a response from him because the last message I got from him indicated
that he was "up to his armpits with the alligators" (swamped with work). <g>

    Cheers ... Gerald

... Screw up your courage! You've screwed up everything else.

well, there's several files in the batch that contain descriptions of most of the files... there's a 4DOS descript.ion file that seems to be the most up to date... there's also bat lang's files.bbs files in three formats but they are a
bit out of date... i covered about half of it in a few hours the other day and had not run into any that i wasn't able to get a description for... my problem is to not hit the wrong keys and start an automated task again and again ;)
