    I did this once before and got it to work... I cannot seem to get fD2 to call out on a Vmodem port other that 23... now if I'm in the terminal program I can type the address is.... it ATDT joesbbs.no-ip.com 5190 and it works fine... but
    I cannot seem to get the mailer to do it.... I had done some messing around in the fdnode.ctl file and made things look like this... joesbbs.no-ip.com[5190] but it pukes and doesn't call out...

    ideas?? Is there a text file out there??

    Thanx

    EDIT your fdnode.ctl file of course you won't need the brackets with VMODEM/SIO, but you will if you use COM/IP

    I believe it was just the hostname SPACE then the port or maybe it was :PORT ... not sure. Works great. Even setup one to call port 24 for testing locally.

    Everytime I went to compile what I had it said that it didn't like it there... then I'd move it and it said it didn't like the cost where it was ... then I'd move it and it didn't like the dial where it was.

    the last official FDFAQ is available at

    http://www.wpusa.dynip.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=13

    however, i don't believe that it contains the info you are seeking... this info
    is different between OS/2 and winwhatever...

    on OS/2, i use environment variables to put in the info for those systems that my system calls via vmodem or telnet...

    ie: in my .BAT file...

    set 1:275/100=#fidotel.com 5190

    then you put in an override in FDNODE.CTL...

    PHONE 1:275/100 $[1:275/100]

    you could put "#fidotel.com 5190" (without the quotes) in place of the $[] stuff but i find this a bit easier and only need to worry about available environment space... in my setup, running 4DOS and 4OS/2, i can also update domains and such by updating the text file i keep the info in... these textfiles are processed (via 4DOS and 4OS/2) by my system when it runs the set statements... after making changes to the list of statements, i simply cause FD
    to recycle thru the .BAT file...

    anyway, after setting up the above, recompile the nodelist to get the override in place... the # indicates that the call is to be a telnet call... for a vmodem call, one would use a 'V' or a 'v'... these work directly with the DIAL section in FDNODE.CTL, too...

    ie:

    DIAL 1010288-/ 1010288-011-
    ;internet stuff
    # internet
    000- internet
    V internet#

    ;local numbers
    1-919-258- 258- ; Broadway
    1-919-498- 498- ; Olivia
    1-919-499- 499- ; Olivia
    1-919-708- 708- ; Sanford
    END

    the # indicates to FD that the call is an internet call... the V indicates that
    the call is a vmodem call... these are specific to the SIO/Vmodem package for OS/2...

    some folk have had some luck in doing this on the winwhatever platform with netmodem or similar winbased port emulators... however, there are differences in how the destination ports were specified... in the above, you can see that it is just seperated by a space... IIRC, those others wanted a ':' or something...

    i guess i need to add this info to the FRONTDOOR section of my forums so that it may be found and used...

    right... there is no "section" that the PHONE overrides go in... i list mine at
    the top of FDNODE.CTL...

    ie: ;sample fdnode.ctl template
    PHONE <address> <number override>

    DIAL <national prefix>/ <international prefix>
    blah
    END

    COST <national> <international>
    blah
    END

    for the PHONE overrides, you just list each of them prefixed by PHONE... they do not make a section like the DIAL/END or COST/END stuff and they do not go within a section...

    Is there a way for FD to dial say "1:2610/33" with
    "ttb.dyn.ml.org"

    yep... two methods are available in FD v2.30... choose one and enjoy <<G>>

    1. use a script file similar to this... (added bonus, this script also shows how to dial more than one number for the same node <G>)... don't forget to adjust your ROUTE.FD file for that node... the line would look similar to this...

    script inetlink 1:3651/9

    here's the script...

    === snip ===
    ; inetlink.scr
    ; Sample Script to call Boss on more than one phonenumber
    ; (courtesy Jan Orsel)
    ; modified to use internet domain names
    ; on OS/2 system using SIO and VMODEM,
    ; #somedomain.com uses vmodem protocol
    ; somedomain.com uses telnet protocol
    ; ^ note no # on this one...

    retrycount 15 ;Exit script after more than 15 retries.
    timerset 100 ;Set timeout to 100 seconds

    :node1
    wait 2
    display Dialing techshop.pdn.net
    dial techshop.pdn.net ;Phonenumber for node 1
    case
    CONNECT : session
    BUSY : >node2
    "NO CARRIER" : >node2
    "NO DIAL" : >node2
    @DEFAULT : fail
    endcase

    :node2
    wait 2
    display Dialing ppp68.pdn.net
    dial ppp68.pdn.net ;Phonenumber for node 2
    case
    CONNECT : session
    BUSY : >node1
    "NO CARRIER" : >node1
    "NO DIAL" : >node1
    @DEFAULT : fail
    endcase

    ;end of script
    === snip ===

    the other method involves a bit more but offers a lot more functionality and a definite eye to the future of fidonet and being able to use FD with the internet...

    2. first some entries in FDNODE.CTL... and then i also put some entries in the modem manager in FDSETUP...

    === snip ===
    DIAL / 011-

    ;internet stuff
    # internet
    0000- internet/:155
    V internet#

    ; The above would translate the raw number "#2-2-2-0" to "2.2.2.0",
    ; "0000-2-2-2-0" to "2.2.2.0:155", and "V2-2-2-0" to "#2.2.2.0".

    ;local numbers
    ; 1-803-395-2165 internettechshop.pdn.net ; telnet
    1-803-395-2165 internet#techshop.pdn.net ; vmodem
    ; see info further in message
    END

    COST 25 200 ; Default: 25 units for domestic calls
    ; Default: 200 units for international calls

    ; internet translated costs - cost 0 for all ;-)
    # 0
    V 0
    internet 0

    ; The cost of these three cases will be 0, and *not* based on the
    ; original number's prefix (as is normally the case for the cost table).
    END
    === snip ===

    the entries i put in the modem manager for my internet tasks are as follows...

    === snip ===
    ╔═════════════════════════════════════════ Modem control, MODEM11.FD ╗
    ║ # String to match String to send/Action ║ ║────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────║
    ║ 1 1:3651/9 (Stop scanning and proceed with call) ║
    ║ 2 >0 (Do not dial) ║
    ║ ║
    === snip ===

    with the above, each node that i want to allow calls to go out to i put above line 2 just like line 1... line 2 prevents my internet only nodes from trying to dial normal phone numbers over the internet... the above may not be needed in the future if fidonet can get together and get the nodelist format adjusted so we can put internet 'numbers' (ip addresses or domain names) in the nodelist...

    ok, some explanation is also needed for the internet translation stuff... if the nodelist contains #, 0000-, or V at the beginning of the phone number,
    THEN that translation stuff will be made. since you are using a "fake nodelist", you can use that method...

    in my case, however, i'm translating the raw phone number directly to the internet form... internetblahblahblah is the telnet form, and in ernet#blahblahblah is the vmodem form... other virtual modem drivers may have other protocols they support or they may use different characters to choose between them and so they should be able to be translated here...

    one nice this to note is that my internet nodes will contact 1:3651/9 via the domain number and my normal dialup nodes are still able to contact 1:3651/9
    via landline dialing... to prevent my dialup nodes from calling 1:3651/9
    unless i really want to use the LD lines, i set that ROUTE.FD file to hold all mail for that node...

    in any case, the above is my setup as it has been working here since this toy was introduced to us... occasionally i switch over to using the script i
    posted first. this because the system i feed from has more than one node and
    ip available and the script affords me the capability to be a bit more
    creative when necessary ;-)
