Anyone into the Olympics? I didn't miss one moment of the trials. Now it's on to Japan. It's going to be hard to watch it live with the 12 hour time difference. The Track trials were in Oregon. It was 110 degrees. I know some of you here are from that state. Anyway watching the womens diving got me all hot and bothered. Them chicks are "FIT"!. Them musclular legs are something else. And they swim and dive too.;-) There's no way I'd even jump off that 10 meter platform yet alone twist and dive head first. Anyway America's womens swim, diving and track teams should kick some ass. What country are you from? Who are you pullin for. July 23 kicks off the games in Japan. NBC, NBC Peacock yada yada.

I used to LOVE the Olympics, but not so much any more. Doesn't have the
same appeal for some reason. I think it's because they are all
basically professional athletes any more, the days of pure amateurs are
long gone. Also politics and "wokeness" has been injected into it, and
that's a deal-breaker for me. Plus I think it should have all been
cancelled due to Covid anyway. Not planning to watch it at all.

I am not that big into the Olympics as I am more into football (or soccer as you Yanks call it) however I will keep an eye out for certain sports. I will keep track of the football, tennis, boxing, athletics and gymnastics. Team GB seem to do reasonably well in the Olympics so hoping for some good performances this year!

Actually, the Olympics are completely bellow my radar.

I used to like the horse shows but they make no effort to broadcastthem here anyway, and I am too lazy to look specifically for them myself with all the stuff I usually have to do :-)

That's my second favorite event after diving. I guess they need to build up the quads to get the lift they need. Many of the women divers come from a gymnastics background or trampoline experience. While I'm on the topic of olympics what do you think about Sha'Carri Richardson failing her drug test for pot? How stupid is that? I was glad in a way. She thinks she's "it". Orange hair, 6 inch finger nails, fake eyelashes up to her eyebrows. Maybe she'll find some humility after this.

I had not heard of that, but it sounds very stupid to me. Spending so much time and effort to be there and then trash it for pot.

It makes me remember this bicycle racer who was allergic to bees and got stung, had a VERY bad reaction and had to take some meds mid-race season. The meds caused him to give positive in the doping tests and he was out. I remember the interview they had with him and he had his face inflamated and red like a tomato.

I'm definitely interested in some of the track events. Ironically, with the Olympics being in a similar time zone to mine, it actually makes it _harder_ to see some events live, such as the 100m finals, because they're in the evening, but my best window for watching the Olympics is during the day.

You defnitely need good quads, hamstrings, glutes and a solid core for the diving event.

It's not very clever to pick up a ban due to cannabis... normally elite athletes get caught out using designer PEDs which sometimes show up in certain tests. To lose an opportunity to compete in the Olympics, the premier event for a track athlete like her, is ludicrous. She'll never make a mistake like that again!

I duuno about cannabis not being an enhancer. I don't think it is going to make your muscles
bigger, but afaik it has a painkiller effect. If you are under the effect of pain mitigation I
suppose you can abuse your body a bit further. You'd pay the price lñater ofc.

That said, can you imagine athletes showing up to the competition, completely stoned?

Because she admitted to her mistake, and because the relay event was beyond
her 30 day suspension, I was hoping they would choose her for that event.
Maybe they had 4 other runners who they felt were better qualified, but I didn't see a reason to ban her entirely since her suspension should have
    been up by then.

I could agree with that. I never understood why some athletes would get banned for using party drugs such as ecstacy or cocaine when they don't provide a sporting advantage. I didn't like seeing the boxer Tyson Fury lose his heavyweight belts due to testing positive for cocaine because a drug like that has absolutely nothing to do with PEDs.

Any drug that doesn't provide a sporting advantage should be "OK" to use... however just because an athlete wouldn't fall foul of the sporting rules/regulations it doesn't mean they wouldn't fall foul of the law. I don't agree with the "two bites of the cherry" thing where you could get banned and disgraced from a sport AND in trouble with the law.

I agree, if there are better candidates than her it would be fair enough... but they shouldn't discard her because of her recent admitted drug taking. It's not like she got caught doing a Lance Armstrong or anything remotely like that. She's only 21 and most young people end up dabbling in recrational drugs around that time in their lives. She should have known better but I would be disappointed if her absence was merely down to the marijuana.

Not me. Rules are rules. That is why people get arrested. They break rules.
We do and should expect more from those who represent our country. Like George Foreman in '68 or whatever year that was.

She agreed/signed up for that and then she broke her promise/committment and that is not worthy of representing us or being a role model to our youth.

That's one of the biggest problems in our country today: we don't apply laws and rules consistently.
