• More Gun Control!?

"Let's look at this logically and realistically. The 2nd amendment allows for personal protection of our families. It also allows for civilians to arm themselves against an errant government. Let's focus on the 2nd sentence for a moment. In the 1700's everyone had the very same weapon, with the very same capabilities. Fast forward to today, we the people are not allowed to own weapons of the very same capabilities as our government, law enforcement and or military. Contrary to democratic thinking, the popular AR15 of today is FAR from being a match to our government, law enforcement and our military's capabilities. For instance, the AR in AR15 stands for "Armalite Rifle" "NOT ASDSAULT RIFLE" The AR15 is nothing more than a single shot rifle, but it is black. Our government today carry's the exact same" LOOKING RIFLE" except theirs is "FULL AUTO OURS IS NOT". Therefore, civilians are no longer equivalently armed as we were in the 1700's when our Fore Fathers gave us the 2nd amendment. I for one will not allow our government to water down the 2nd amendment any further than it already is. Anyone wanting to try is very welcome on my doorstep."

"Enough gun laws are already in place to effectively keep guns out of criminals hands, problem is our government does not enforce them. One thing our government and the democrats do not understand is that CRIMINALS DO NOT OBEY THE LAW"

VERY much agreed here! The problem is people with murder in their hearts,
not the gun in the hand...

Actually, the civilian rifle of the day was much more accurate at range than the military issue musket. The benefit of the musket is that it was quicker to reload than the rifle. Fast forward to the 1870's the Springfield "Trapdoor" rifle issued to the military was technologically inferior to the lever action repeating Henrys and Winchesters of the day. The military went with the single-shot Springfied because they felt that soldiers would waste ammunition with the repeaters and would aim their shots more carefully..

Things began to draw more even in the late 1890s and early 1900s with bolt action and semi-automatic arms. While the civilian still had the edge with the availability of the semi-auto firearm until 1937, it was not until the NFA of 1934 that the military gained the edge in small arms. If course, this also made private ownership of "destructive devices" a crime (or at the very least heavily regluated) as well. This act, I believe, signals the slow and gradual process of the government beginning to chip away at the Second Amendment. From this point on, gun owners have been in a defensive mode and we have never recovered.

the people are not allowed to own weapons of the very same capabilities

It's been discussed time and time again that none of the gun laws currently on the books, or any of those proposed would have prevented any of the mass shootings that have occurred in recent history. It's also notable to observe that according to FBI statistics more people are killed with knives than are killed with all rifles combined (including the scary black, plastic stocked murder sticks). The fact of the matter is that gun controls is not about controlling guns, it's about the government exerting an unconstitutional, illegal, and malevolent control over its citizens.
