    Hello John,

    Are you the moderator?

Mais oui, monsieur. Bienvenue a la echo!

Is this a place for the discussions of conspiracies?

    Complots et comploteurs!

    Are there rules?

    Rules?
    There are rules?
    Of course there are rules!
But only one Rule that really counts.
And what Rule might that be?
    Only the Rule of One.
There used to be the Rule of Two.
But now there is only The One.

If you want to know what the Rule of One is,
the secret is revealed in the tv show M*A*S*H -

"There are two rules of war.
Rule number one is that young men die.
Rule number two is that doctors can't change rule number one."

Now that you know what the Rule is, you are expected to OBEY!

Is this the serious, thoughtfully aware Lee, or is this
the crazy ass incomprehensibly Cajun key tickler?

Both. Master and Apprentice. One to empower the power
of the Dark Side, the other to crave it.

    If the former, I have secrets to reveal;

"Instead of two there is now only one - the Sith Order itself.
I have recreated the Sith, Lord Bane, as you once did. I have
given it a purpose. For what use is power without one?"
    - Darth Krayt to Darth Bane's holocron

if the latter, I have secrets to reveal.

"Power is its own purpose. To share it is to dilute it. You delude
yourself, pretender -- Your order will yet turn on itself and you."
    - Darth Bane to Darth Krayt for disobeying the Rule of Two.

For those not familiar with the film, Morant's "Rule 303" is a
reference to the Lee Enfield .303 rifle issued at the time the story
took place (early 20th Century in South Africa). Morant's meaning
was he shot the prisoners because he had the means to do so (rifles
in hand) and that was all the authority he needed.

Has the one who shall remain nameless given you any heat?

    Caused problems for you?

Should you ask I'll withdraw from your BBS rather than post the
odd post to that other echo.

It's in pretty severe decline in any regard with just a few
opinions of much interest to me anyway.

Your BBS just doesn't interface for QWK out of the box well with Linux.

I'd bet a Knoppix release of this same O.S. would work just fine
as they preconfigure much to the generally accepted standards.

Slackware Linux leaves a LOT to be custom configured.

It has the advantage of being able to be optimised to your ultimate
goals and desires in how it operates but it can introduce stumbling
    blocks.

BTW my ancestry came through Austrailia at one point starting
out in Scotland and arriving in Autrailia in somewhat the accoustomed way
    back in the day.

Hey the latest release of Slackware operates quite adaquately on a 1998 IBM.

Linux does get more out of existing hardware than other operating systems, particularly Mr. Bill Gates.

And it's free, and open source and you can find most any application for it

The only place it seems to fall short is gaming and that I've no need of.

Oh, I dunno. England is okay, but the food is lousy. Scotland is
great. And Ireland is still, well, Ireland.

Caused a rue some years ago between the Brits and the Irish (as if
that was possible) over food. Actually, it was the Scots who caused
the rue, not me. But I was the main instigator, albeit indirectly.

As a pianist, I work with singers from time to time. She was a
Rhodes scholar, studying at Oxford, and had many friends in Scotland.
She loved my food creation (frozen fried snickers bars), and shared
it with her friends. As such things go, they absolutely loved those
goodies, and my recipe spread like wildfire. This particular recipe
became especially popular among the Scots, as they were the first to
have sampled the creation (aside from the original creator (myself)
and the singer). The Irish got mad about it, thinking it was some
kind of British conspiracy to invade Ireland, and created their own
version - subsituting mars bars in place of snickers bars.

Here is the recipe on how to make those scrumptiously delicious
    frozen fried snickers bars -

Put some snickers bars in the freezer, and freeze them solid.
Cut frozen snickers bars into slices or small chunks.
Dip slices/chunks of frozen snickers bars in batter, roll in
fish fry, and deep fry to golden brown. Serve warm.

And try not to eat too many, else you become fat as a blimp.

    Are there rules?

If you want to know what the Rule of One is,
the secret is revealed in the tv show M*A*S*H -

"There are two rules of war.
Rule number one is that young men die.

Yeah. And the movie is a cult classic.

There is a less expensive version of the astronaut pen,
which I have. However, having actually met all three astronauts
of Apollo 11 is priceless. Not to mention a picture of them,
autographed by all three astronauts - Neil Armstrong, Michael
Collins, and Buzz Aldrin. (item not for sale)

On the web site, there is an important notice -

The pen is mightier than the sword.

One of the problems early astronauts (and cosmonauts) had was
what to write with when in space. The Russians were so concerned
about the possibility of pens exploding that they used pencils.
But soon changed their minds when they began to realize that
lead breaks into tiny pieces and can float around everyplace
    in a weightless environment.

Still an atheist here as well.

    Hey what's happening?

Yup, I'm still here as well though went through some dicey bits the last four years having stroked a time or two.

    Just recently FULLY back.

I'm mucking around with a 1998 IBM Aptiva with Linux Slackware 13.0
soon to be upgraded to the latest kernel.

Hey I can watch PBS shows online with this antique!

Jon Stewart and Colbert not so much as with their video interface
the video badly lags the audio on a 100 MHz FSB 450 MHz Pentium II

In fact pbs.org is where I'm off to next after uploading this reply.

I'm a fairly bit jealous of that and were my SSDI enough to afford to live there I'd join you there.

I suppose subsidised housing might be a way to go.

But then MJ really doesn't much help the pain for me and after one or two spliffs over a day or two I lose interest as it no longer does much of
    anything at all for me.

Had given it up since 1985 but recently an incident I can't talk about openly caused me to take up the practice on occassion for a short time.

Boy it really makes that first cup of coffee in the morning taste great
and I can annialate a 1/2 gallon of frozen chocolate yogart but by day
three it seems a waste of cash better put to other uses and that's

Priced my self up an incredibly powerful white box computer to
upgrade this 1998 computer running the latest Linux Slackware
release to very near the bleeding edge.

    Total cost?

    $200

Using the same case as the 1998 IBM Aptiva with already upgraded power supply.

It was DICK Cheney and his secret energy policy meetings where he gave
the concession to the oil industry to not have to use the automatic acoustic blowout preventer in the U.S. to keep what just happened from happening.

Commonly used even when not mandated in S. America.

Cost would have been an additional 500,000 to B.P. as opposed to
the current 6 million a day they're wasting trying to deal with the mess.

I hear that the Tea Bag types are already saying that
"Obama had the oil rig destroyed!". So as to manipulate the
    drilling issue, I guess.

Well, Obama is the cause of EVERYTHING, of course.

Others are saying North Korea did it -

Environmentalists are suggesting Big Oil did it -

"The oil industry spent 40 years building a story line that it knew
what it was doing underwater and because it knew what it was doing
we could allow it to turn our most sensitive coastline into oilfields.
... We've now been reminded once again that oil and water do not mix."
    - Carl Pope, chairman of the Sierra Club, May 2, 2010, AP

Now why would oil companies do a damfool thing like blowing up
an oil rig? Well, pending legislation concerning climate change
could wind up being trashed if offshore drilling remains in the
bill. You see, certain congresscritters have threatened to pull
their support, as the bill is designed to curb emissions of
pollution-causing gases (caused by offshore drilling) blamed
for global warming. See how that works? Blow up an oil rig,
get pending legislation trashed, oil industry continues to
drill for oil as if nothing has happened.

"The Challenger accident was heartbreaking but we went back
to space." - Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-SC, speaking in support of
continued and increased offshore drilling, April 30, 2010, AP

President Obama remains committed to expanding offshore drilling
to new areas of the Outer Continental Shelf, and the Gulf of Mexico.
All he has done is put those plans on hold. For now. Until things
die down a bit. And then it will be business as usual.

    Hello Wayne,

    [..]

    Anyways...let's get to Conspiracies.

I hear that the Tea Bag types are already saying that "Obama had the >SK>oil rig destroyed!". So as to manipulate the drilling issue, I guess.

Well, Obama is the cause of EVERYTHING, of course.

It was DICK Cheney and his secret energy policy meetings where he gave WC>the concession to the oil industry to not have to use the automatic acoustic WC>blowout preventer in the U.S. to keep what just happened from happening.

An interesting theory. But why would the oil industry refuse to adopt
measures that would obviously save a fortune, not to mention save lives?

Commonly used even when not mandated in S. America.

Who is going to pay for the mess caused by B.P.? B.P. claims it
does not have the money or resources. The state of Louisiana claims
it does not have the money or resources. Everybody has their hand
out to Uncle Sam, begging for help.

Cost would have been an additional 500,000 to B.P. as opposed to
the current 6 million a day they're wasting trying to deal with the mess.

The oil spill in the Gulf is bigger, and far more damaging, than
the Exxon Valdez incident in Alaska. It will take decades, if not
a century, for the mess to dissipate. It is now shrimp season in
Louisiana. There is no shrimp season to be had now that the oil has
trashed the shrimp (and the crabs, and the crawfish, and various
fish, etc.) In these parts, folks have three choices in life.
Either one works for the oil companies, one goes fishing, or one
finds work somewhere else (outside Louisiana). Now that fishing
is gone, that leaves only two choices.

    Damn! You're good!

But, myself, I think fire did it. ;)

I'm Navy, I know ship fires.

    Oh, that's right...this is conspiracy.
